ETERNALS Director Chloé Zhao Reveals Massive Secret Cameo From Huge New Phase 4 Character - SPOILERS

Eternals director Chloé Zhao has just dropped a massive bombshell, confirming that a character we never expected to appear in the movie actually has a voice cameo it would be surprisingly easy to miss.

Who could have guessed Eternals would introduce Blade? If you've seen the movie already, you're probably wondering what the heck we're talking about, but that voice in the post-credits scene does indeed belong to the Daywalker. When Dane Whitman goes to pick up the Ebony Blade, he's stopped when a mysterious character off-camera asks, "Sure you're ready for that, Mr. Whitman?"

The scene ends there, but during a recent interview with Fandom, Eternals director Chloé Zhao revealed, "That was the voice of one of my favorite superheroes, Mr. Blade himself. Blade, Blade, Blade, yeah!" She is, of course, referring to Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, who we know will soon take centre stage in his own movie from director Bassam Tariq and writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour.

Talking about that solo outing, Zhao teased: "You just have to wait for it. I don’t know what they’re doing with the movie, but Mahershala is a treasure. It’s going to be epic."

A Blade/Black Knight team-up sounds like a lot of fun, and Kit Harington is similarly excited about what that could look like. "It’s really cool. [Chloé] texted me about that a couple of weeks ago and it sort of blew my mind. I didn’t know that that would be the case, so it’s pretty exciting for me."

"I came into this knowing that there would be, hopefully, some cool possibilities for the future and also looking at the character and responding to the character as I saw it on every level, in every platform," the actor continued. "So yeah, this is a great intro into the Marvel world and I’m just very happy that this movie is the one that I got to do it in."

We didn't necessarily picture Black Knight fighting vampires in the MCU, but it sounds like a pretty badass way to use the character. Marvel Studios takes a lot of creative liberties in Eternals, so the Ebony Blade somehow being tied to Dracula and company could be made to work.

Eternals is now playing in theaters.

This is the corner of the MCU I'm the most excited about.

@PantherKing - I never take them seriously when it comes to negative criticism. My concern about their reviews is always that others might take them too seriously.

@LSHF - I had a funny feeling when all those reviews started rolling in. I’m shocked because it seems Marvel did something different and they’re here shitting in the movie when they always complain about the “Marvel formula”

@PantherKing - Same feelings here.

I've noticed over the decades that sometimes critics will join together and attack a film with negative reviews when it doesn't seem justified, and, almost always, time proves them wrong, and the films in question will later get better "hindsight" reviews.

Even Roger Ebert has gone back a few years later and changed his mind on some original negative reviews.

And this just helps support my belief that, with films, you can't always trust your first impression.

I saw the Eternals last night and it was EXTREMELY AWESOME! I thought it was a great story and the ending was EPIC. Cinematography alone was worth a viewing. 4 Stars out of 5 Stars.

I really liked his chaeacter and was excited to see more of him. Vampires? [frick] yeah. I hope the MCU makes vampires really awesome and doesnt ‘defang’ them too much with too much CGI (Morbius effects are so plastic looking and could have been accomplished with practical so so easily, glad its sonyverse not MCU, plus if Jared [frick]ing Leto was the first face of vampires in the MCU id already be put off. Yuck.

Excited for some supernatural and multiverse hijinks in the MCU, hope they lean more and more into that and further and further from aliens.

@connorblaze - Sam is gonna have to add monsters as a fourth to his big three

That is pretty cool. Not immediately a team up I thought I'd wanna see, but given their respective comic books histories I'm only growing more hopeful of seeing MI-13 (and thus eventually Excalibur) in live-action soon.

Also, what are the chances the Ebony Blade is actually a fake created by Dracula (who I read somewhere was also gonna appear in Moon Knight)? This corner of the MCU has me really excited.

I was trying to hear the whispers in the theater of who the voice belonged to bc i didnt put two and two together that it could be Blade and now I’m super excited. This corner of the MCU will be very interesting and I’m looking forward to it.

Can’t wait to see the reviews after this weekend 🤞

I figure they may make Blade British.

They may be planting the seeds for MI-13 too

@BlackBeltJones - isn't Blade already from London? Atleast, thought he was.

But yeah, I'm hoping we'll be getting MI-13 (and Excalibur) soon too. That's probably a corner of the MCU is wanna see explored most.

@bkmeijer - yes he’s British but I think the Snipes film ignored that and the modern comics did the same.

@BlackBeltJones - that is true. I feel though that if you start entering the realm of vampires and monsters and whatnot, you shouldn't ignore the European (especially English/German/Polish/Romanian) heritage of it. So I hope they don't

@BlackBeltJones - Just got back from seeing Eternals and can finally read some articles about it - The Blade and Black Knight crossover is intriguing. My mind has immediately gone to another British character known for fighting vampires, Union Jack.
Is the new Blade going to be of British descent like in the comics? I could see them pulling from Bram Stokers novel and placing the subsequent vampire families in and around old European cities and tying in heroes / teams from those regions to fight against them. Really not sure how this is all going to tie in with the ebony blade apart from its lust for blood.

@hummingbird68 - MI-13 set up.

I like your European cities idea and the lust for blood tied to ebony blade.

Also sounds like it's a team-up film... which is disappointing as Blade works best when alone.

"That was the voice of one of my favorite superheroes, Mr. Blade himself. Blade, Blade, Blade, yeah!"

The fact you need to clarify who the voice belongs to emphasizes why this was a stupid creative decision to not have him shown. The audience is not familiar with the character and most are under the impression that Blade won't show up until Phase 5 - so throwing him in here but not showing him, only having his voice, is pretty stupid. Most are unaware of who has been cast as Blade and honestly with how Phase 4 is performing we might not get a Blade film (Or it might be on a heavily reduced budget)

@Scarilian - maybe they only decided later on adding this credit scene, but because of the pandemic they couldn't get Ali to come in physically so they had to resort to an audio cameo only?

@Scarilian - Do you know how many people had no idea who Thanos was when that first Avengers credit scene dropped??? But, yeah, stupid creative decision…

Ebony Blade can only be wielded by the impure of heart -- drawing out their negative emotions until they become bloodthirsty berserkers. Also, the sword prevents the death of its wielder.

The Ebony Blade was Dracula's sword. The symbiotic relationship between Dracula and the Ebony Blade, granted Dracula immortality. That's obvious.
