Who could have guessed Eternals would introduce Blade? If you've seen the movie already, you're probably wondering what the heck we're talking about, but that voice in the post-credits scene does indeed belong to the Daywalker. When Dane Whitman goes to pick up the Ebony Blade, he's stopped when a mysterious character off-camera asks, "Sure you're ready for that, Mr. Whitman?"
The scene ends there, but during a recent interview with Fandom, Eternals director Chloé Zhao revealed, "That was the voice of one of my favorite superheroes, Mr. Blade himself. Blade, Blade, Blade, yeah!" She is, of course, referring to Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, who we know will soon take centre stage in his own movie from director Bassam Tariq and writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour.
Talking about that solo outing, Zhao teased: "You just have to wait for it. I don’t know what they’re doing with the movie, but Mahershala is a treasure. It’s going to be epic."
A Blade/Black Knight team-up sounds like a lot of fun, and Kit Harington is similarly excited about what that could look like. "It’s really cool. [Chloé] texted me about that a couple of weeks ago and it sort of blew my mind. I didn’t know that that would be the case, so it’s pretty exciting for me."
"I came into this knowing that there would be, hopefully, some cool possibilities for the future and also looking at the character and responding to the character as I saw it on every level, in every platform," the actor continued. "So yeah, this is a great intro into the Marvel world and I’m just very happy that this movie is the one that I got to do it in."
We didn't necessarily picture Black Knight fighting vampires in the MCU, but it sounds like a pretty badass way to use the character. Marvel Studios takes a lot of creative liberties in Eternals, so the Ebony Blade somehow being tied to Dracula and company could be made to work.
Eternals is now playing in theaters.
