I'm not a Muslim, but wouldn't the Muslim and Arabic comunity at large be upset at seeing their heroes stolen by American actors? I mean just look at the outrage over Kate Hudson playing Madella's wife in a South African produced movie, I think the same would happen over this. I mean I've never read the books, and your choices do resemble the pictures you posted, but even so doesn't the casting of non Arabic actors kind of defeat the point of a book celebrating that culture?

@thewhtGuardian- i agree, I think I'd be pissed off too if a cool arabic character got played by Zac Efron!! lol

@girlygeek- some of them do, i think johnny depp and rdj might get away with it with a little help despite Depp being from what I believe to be a Native American background and I'm pretty sure RDJ has some italian in him..he certainly looks like he does...however you'vr got Zac Efron and [frick]ing Channing Tatum in there lol!! They don't look arabic I'm afraid. I wouldn't mind picking this 99 up though, it looks interesting. There seriously needs to be some scottish superheroes ;(

@ thewhtguardian. The problem with other cultures & movies sometimes is finding the person from that region that is an actor etc. But they comics arent' being hijacked @ all, like the DC article I wrote is an partnership. But this is just a fictional fan pick. Iam not @ all offened. Some people get to serious on somethings sometimes. But I understand your points & Ryden as well.

yeah, I was just saying that if this were to be the real cast I could see some serious hell being raised. That said, with out reading the comic, the actors chosen really do look like the pictured characters, so great job.

I don't know if you saw my question in your other post about the 99 spock, but do you know what elements of Muslim culture the characters represent? Like elements from the Koran, or is it a more general thing like Captain Palestine or something?
Spock
Spock - 12/8/2009, 4:38 PM
@ thewhtg., sorry about that just been busy, u know how it is sometimes. But to answer your ?. They are based off The 99 attributes of Allah (gOD) for example: Jabbar, The Powerful. Universal virtues. But to point out they aren't all from the Middle East but from around the world & there religion of each character isnt' depicted.

Is this comic good? I've been meaning to check it out.
Dynamo
Dynamo - 7/5/2010, 9:06 AM
BTW Just to be clear, I know not all of the characters in the comic are arabs so you can have alot of other ethnic groups in the film.
Unfortunatly I doubt studios would option a superhero film based around islamic ideology. :(
