Iron Man is a 2008 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is the first installment to be released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To elaborate what was specified in the teaser, CBM members’ bigshow2312 and dmb1511 have both selected an actor for each character of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You the frequent viewer will vote on which of us has the superior thespian. From there, that pick will be seen in the sequel fan cast and possibly the Avengers (all according on how the real film played out). In this Iron Man flick, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark is forced by a Vietnamese extremist group to build a missile labeled as the “Jericho”. Instead, he builds a lifesaving armored suit and ultimately plumps to use this technology to battle evil.
Tony Stark / Iron Man
dmb1511: I selected Jamie Foxx long before Django was released, He has raw talent: singer, actor & comedian. I selected Jamie because I believe he, whether supporting or leading, can make any film worth watching.
bigshow2312: I couldn’t ultimately decide on who would be better for the role: Eddie Murphy or Romany Malco. Both are charismatic & witty which I think is important if an actor is playing Tony Stark.
Pepper Potts
dmb1511: Demetria McKinney hasn’t had much of a chance to show her talent aside from small television gigs. Potts’ needs to be a woman that can get her hands dirty if needed and perhaps don a suit of armor as well. McKinney has portrayed many characters but neither is a damsel in distress.
bigshow2312: What was needed is an actress that can be levelheaded and grounded but could be somewhat equivalent to Stark’s charm (yet innocent). I think Ross would perform just as well if not better than Gwyneth Paltrow.
Lt. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes
dmb1511: Garity Starred alongside Chris Evans in Sunshine which is one of the films that convinced me Garity had the chops to become a supporting actor. For what I envision this fan film to become, most of his roles are supporting and Rhodes needs nothing more than a second conscious for Stark in this film besides Jarvis.
Christine Everhart
bigshow2312: Without a doubt Chambers can play that seductive and catty reporter itching for a big break.
Happy Hogan
dmb1511: J.B. Smoove is a character all by himself. I selected him for Hogan because most of the humor is supplied by Stark and in order to balance out the comedy Hogan needs to be funnier than Stark.
bigshow2312: dmb & I both agreed that anybody playing Hogan has to be flat out funny. In the Favreau film, Hogan was a serious stoic character but for our adaption a little humor wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Yinsen
bigshow2312: Randall would play Ho Yinsen, and since this would be based in Vietnam the character would be based on the original Chinese engineer from the comics.
JARVIS
dmb1511: Perhaps the reason Terrence Howard was despised as Rhodes was because his calm voice was taken as such instead of stern. However Howard is not one to be overlooked and maybe his talent could be used to represent Stark’s AI inside of the suit.
Agent Coulson
bigshow2312: This was a difficult choice, because dmb & I are both guilty of trash talking this guy. Believe or not, I decided to stick with this choice after watching him in a Mabel Simmons film (feel free to google it). I will say that he was the best part that film and I hope you like my decision.
Raza (Wong-Chu)
dmb1511: Temuera Morrison is one of those actors that is underused and because of his underuse he will remain in a lower rank until his talent is recognized. Raza was also one of the people in the first Iron Man film that made the audience believe he could have done more, which is the reason Morrison was selected.
bigshow2312: Like I stated earlier, this would be based in Vietnam and I needed an oriental actor that everyone recognizes but also respects. I think Watanabe falls in that category and could pull off an intimidating villain well.
Obadiah Stane
dmb1511: Andre Braugher is simply awesome. He is nowhere short of privileged and his talent proves it. With no more than ten minutes in
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer; He made you despise his character more than Doom with both movies combined. Stane is to be a hidden leech that grows due to what he takes from others. Braugher can be tyrannical.
bigshow2312: Glover came to mind after watching
The Shooter in which he played the films villain. Glover is a veteran actor, much like Jeff Bridges and I believe that he is the superior choice for Stane.
Nick Fury
dmb1511: Stephen Lang, like Samuel L. Jackson allows his work to precede him. In each of Lang’s Roles he plays and old-timer that divvy up damage like everyone else despite of his age. He is a forced to be reckoned with in and out of film.
bigshow2312: I originally chosen Russell Crowe, but I had to reconsider after catching a rerun of the classic 80s film
Big Trouble in Little China. The whole time I couldn’t stop thinking how great he would be as a 616 Nick Fury (or maybe it was just the eye patch). He could play that cold and demanding character that pushes the Avengers together for the sake of humanity. Nonetheless, I’ve made my decision and have great faith that you’ll agree.
Hope you guys enjoyed this article and be sure to look out for our next fan cast!
