Rounding out the team is hard. There are so many great mutants who deserve spots here. In the end, I tried to select ones that have not been heavily featured in the past iterations of the franchise, bring unique power-sets and personalities into play and rounding out a diverse representation for our main team.

The Plot
In the deserts of Africa a young Idie Okonkwo wakes in the early hours of the morning with a burning fever, but terrible cold sweats. Her sudden illness comes at a terrible time, as armed men descend upon her village. They have been here before, and taken away many young men, including her older brother. But this time, they are coming for her. Idie's parents try to get her to safety, but they are separated. Cornered by the enemy, Idie lashes out in a sudden burst of power - unleashing fire and ice to kill the attackers. But her parents and the other villagers are terrified by what they see, and more soldiers are coming.
Idie runs away from everything she's ever known into the desert. But just before the enemies catch her once more, the X-Men arrive. The elite team of mutant heroes - Cyclops, Prestige, Storm, Iceman, Jubilee and Rictor - makes short work of the men and spirit Idie away in their stealth jet.
The team comes home to the X-Mansion, a sprawling above-and-below-ground estate that operates as the base of operations for Professor Charles Xavier's efforts to keep mutants safe by hiding them from the world. Xavier and Dr. Hank McCoy welcome Idie and introduce her to her new "classmates/family," including Kitty Pryde, Alex Summers and Quentin Quire. Kitty quickly takes Idie under her wing. Meanwhile, Xavier debriefs the team. Xavier confides to Scott, Jean and Ororo in private that the number of mutants is growing exponentially. Ororo believes this means it is time to go public, but Scott sides with Xavier in maintaining caution. Afterwards, he goes to Jean, hoping to validate his choices. It is revealed he defied Xavier after the blip to try and be a superhero, but the foray ended in the death of teammate Morph and put their entire operation at risk.
Back in Africa, the survivors of the squad sent to collect Idie report to their commander, Adonjo Unduque. It is revealed that he is a human trafficker working for the mysterious Hellfire Club, selling kidnapped humans to alien clients in exchange for extraterrestrial technology. He reluctantly reports the bad news to the Black King, Sebastian Shaw, but reveals that he holds Idie's family, and hopes that they will lead the X-Men into the hands of the Hellfire Club.
Back at the mansion, Idie begins to train, first with Iceman, but she is views her powers as a curse and would rather have a cure. When Bobby can't get through, Storm takes over and tries, along with Kitty, to encourage her to embrace her true self. Quentin, however, mocks her for not sharing his views on the superiority of mutants. Meanwhile, Scott trains his little brother. Alex is desperate to be able to go into the field, but still struggles to control his powers. They fight.
An angry Havoc teams with Quentin, who is diametrically opposed to Xavier's "wait for the right moment" message, to convince Idie and Kitty to run away and try and rescue her family themselves. They trigger the Hellfire Club's surveillance, and Donald Pierce and his Reavers are sent after them. The students encounter a stranger, Polaris, who is also tracking the Club's activities. She and Havoc quickly connect, and she helps them break into a facility in Brussels, where Adonjo Unduque is testifying before the UN. Quentin causes chaos by revealing the deepest secrets of all the government officials present and the group gives chase to a fleesing Unduque. However, they are attacked and overpowered by the Reavers, fighting with their powers in public, but are captured anyway.
Realizing what has happened, Cyclops and the team suit up to go on the offensive. They arrive in Brussels too late, and find that the Hellfire Club has already cleaned up the incident. After a brief fight with the Reavers who stayed behind, they follow up on their only remaining lead - the Unduque's compound in Africa.
The young mutants awake in the labs of Dr. Karl Lykos, somewhere in a mysterious jungle. Attempting to work together, they manage to escape, but their clashing personalities quickly leave them stranded in the jungle. Quentin abandons the others, who are shocked to be attacked by dinosaurs, only surviving thanks to the return of Lykos and Pierce. Returned to the lab, Lykos explains the nature of the Savage Land before beginning to conduct experiments upon his captors. He has been trying to replicate the evolutionary process to bring about mutations of his own design. The students are imprisoned alongside his mutates, including Morph, revealed to have survived and been captured. His shape-shifting cells have been harvested by Lykos, the final key in his experiment.
In Africa, the X-Men face off with the Unduque gang and their alien weapons, winning a quick victory. His men defeated, Adonjo Unduque is cornered. He reveals his leverage - a file containing footage of the fight in England and all of the Hellfire Club's data regarding mutants. If they let him and his son Manuel escape in their spaceship, he'll hand it over. If not, it will be broadcast to the world. Cyclops makes the choice to ignore the threat and capture Adonjo, freeing the slaves, though they are too late to save all of Idie's family. Manuel escapes. Interrogating their prisoner, Jean is able to locate the students in the Savage Land.
When Quentin recieves a psychic message from Jean, Morph helps the students lead the mutates in a revolt, drawing the attention of the Reavers as the X-Men storm the fortress, taking on cyborgs, mutates and dinosaurs alike. Seeing the enemy make short work of his defenses, Dr. Lykos takes his own treatment, transforming into the monsterous Sauron. It takes the full combined teamwork of the young mutants and the older team to defeat him. Pierce escapes, but the others return home to the mansion with the liberated mutates and a captive Dr. Lykos. Idie joyfully reunites with her parents, but finds they are still frightened by her power.
The hero's arrival home is caught up in a firestorm of public media attention as the viral data dump has revealed to the whole world the existence of mutants. Dr. McCoy suggests they can still try and cover it up, but Xavier sides with Scott, Jean and Storm, who stand united for going public. The film ends with the trio accompanying Xavier and Dr. McCoy to testify before Congress.
Post Credits: Shaw returns to the headquarters of the Hellfire Club where he is greeted coldly by his ally and rival, Emma Frost, played by Evan Rachel Wood. With mutants going public, they reveal they have to step-up their plans. A peak at their operations reveal hints that they are searching for a long list of famous mutants, including Magneto and Wolverine.
