Act 1
Scene 1
INT. COURTROOM -MIDDAY-
We open on the beginning of a court case, with HARVEY DENT as the D.A. against CARMINE FALCONE. Also in the stands, is Assistant D.A. JOHN FIELDS, BRUCE WAYNE, DICK GRAYSON, and DENT'S fiancée, SARAH. JUDGE CARROWS presides.
JUDGE CARROWS
MR. FALCONE, you have been accused of bribery, racketeering, association with criminals, and grand larsoning, by the state. How do you plead?
FALCONE
With all due respect JUDGE, I plead not-guilty.
Action
JUDGE CARROWS sighs, and HARVEY DENT rolls his eyes.
JUDGE CARROWS
Very well then, this will go to trial on October 16th, a week from now. Until then, MR. FALCONE will reside in Gotham Penitentiary under high surveillance.
Action
JUDGE CARROWS slams her gable, indicating that they are dismissed. DENT approaches FALCONE.
DENT
What’s your angle, CARMINE? You know you can't win or bribe your way out while under high security.
FALCONE
Never underestimate me HARVEY, especially when you aren’t wearing a bullet proof vest.
DENT
Is that a threat CARMINE?
Action
FALCONE puts a finger to his lips.
FALCONE
Why DENT, it’s a fact. You should always be aware when not protected.
Action
Guards drag FALCONE to a holding cell, while DENT is approached by FIELDS and SARAH, who is bringing BRUCE WAYNE.
FIELDS
Great job sir, you defiantly had him on the ropes there.
FIELDS is young and eager, and not as experienced as DENT, but is competent. He is a bit of a kiss up.
DENT
FIELDS, shut up.
FIELDS
Yes sir.
Action
FIELDS runs off. SARAH kisses HARVEY, then speaks.
SARAH
HARVEY, this is BRUCE WAYNE, an old friend from high school.
Action
BRUCE and HARVEY shake hands.
HARVEY
Ah yes, SARAH told me she knew the famous BRUCE WAYNE, before he was famous.
BRUCE
Well haven't I always been famous?
Action
Both men laugh.
BRUCE
Well, I wish I could be famous for what you do HARVEY, putting away the scum of Gotham.
HARVEY
I can only take partial credit for this BRUCE, the rest goes to COMMISIONER GORDON, and of course the BATMAN.
Action
BRUCE looks away really quick at DICK GRAYSON, then back at HARVEY and SARAH.
BRUCE
Oh, so you support...him?
DENT
Of course, why don't you?
BRUCE
Well, I like many, support elected officials, not vigilante justice, after all, this is no western.
DENT
Not a bad point Bruce, always good to know I have someone voting for me.
BRUCE
Actually I voted for CONRAD to be D.A.
Action
DICK walks towards the men
DICK
BRUCE, can we go now, I have a date in an hour, and this was a waste of time.
BRUCE
One second, DICK, sorry HARVEY, you know how teenagers are now a days. Nice to meet you. SARAH, always a pleasure.
Action
BRUCE and DICK leave.
HARVEY
I seem to recall you saying he a nice guy.
SARAH
He is!
HARVEY
He's a dick.
Scene 2
INT. HOUSE -NIGHT-
EDWARD NASHTON, a father in his late-forties, arrives home to see his 23 year old son on his couch, with a gun. There are two other dead bodies around him, a woman in her early forties, and a boy about 17.
EDWARD
JASON? What are you doing here?
JASON
Not very welcoming to your own son I see. But then again, being estrange for five years will do that to you I guess.
Action
Edward starts tearing up.
JASON
I had to kill them. MOM didn’t love ME. And TIM didn't even know my [frick]ING name!
Action
JASON cocks the gun.
EDWARD
Son, we had to let you go, the drugs were getting to your head. You were about to flunk out of school. We refused to have your death on our hands!
JASON
Why do you think I switched to drugs? Huh? Because I wasn't a genius, like you! You put too much pressure on me! Drugs were my only way out!
EDWARD
And murder! Nobody pressured you into killing your own mother! The woman who gave birth to you! And loved you!
JASON
I know!
Action
JASON starts crying
JASON
They’re going to kill me DAD. I needed to hide here, and mom wouldn’t let me. DAD please, I don’t want to die. I’m clean, you can even check me. I swear I won’t ever do drugs again.
Action
EDWARD thinks for a second, and then comes to a conclusion
EDWARD
Ok son, you want to stay here, then you have to prove to me you have your shit straight. If you can answer this question correctly, you’ve earned life. If not, then I’m sorry son.
JASON
Ok DAD ok. What’s your question?
EDWARD
I am the most valuable gem on Earth. I never flaw, and I last forever. What am I?
JASON
Please DAD, don’t do this. I could never answer your trick questions.
Action
JASON’S sobs get louder.
JASON
Please.
Action
EDWARD opens his arms to give his son a hug, and JASON runs into them. Then, EDWARD grabs the gun out of JASON’S hands.
EDWARD
The answer is family.
Action
EDWARD shoots JASON in the side.
EDWARD
Family is forever. You should know that. You should know that you wouldn’t leave this house alive.
Action
EDWARD lets go of JASON, and lets him hit the floor. He bleeds to death.
EDWARD
But, in the end, it wasn’t me that killed you. It was the scum of Gotham. I will kill the men that made you into what you turned into. I swear it son. I will kill your killers.
Scene 3
INT. NASHTON HOUSE –LATE NIGHT-
BATMAN and ROBIN go to the NASHTON house. EDWARD is nowhere to be found. All three dead bodies are there. GORDON approaches the two.
BATMAN
Who are they?
GORDON
The woman is RITA NASHTON, a mother in her late 40’s. The two boys are JASON and TIM NASHTON, 23 and 17. Their father, EDWARD’s, whereabouts is currently unknown, but the evidence doesn’t point to him as the killer.
ROBIN
Why do you say that, COMMISIONER?
GORDON
The bullets that killed them are linked to a gun registered under JASON’S name. And, even more, JASON has been estranged from his family since he was in high school.
ROBIN
But a shot to the side, it doesn’t look like suicide. Usually, that’s a shot to the head.
GORDON
More than that, JASON is a wanted man, boy wonder.
Action
ROBIN winces in disgust at his nickname.
BATMAN
Wanted for what? Or should I ask, by whom?
GORDON
Who else? FALCONE’S men.
Scene 4
INT. INTERRIGATION ROOM –EVENING-
The evening after investigating the crime scene, BATMAN gets a warrant to interrogate CARMINE FALCONE.
HARVEY DENT
Unfortunately, I could only get you 10 minutes with him. Can you handle that?
BATMAN
Thank you HARVEY
Action
DENT nods.
HARVEY
Where’s your friend at? Or son? I’m a bit confused, sorry.
BATMAN
He didn’t want to attend a boring interrogation.
DENT
Wow, hard to imagine him saying no to this.
BATMAN
Well, you know how teenagers are.
Action
BATMAN goes into the investigation room. In there, is CARMINE FALCONE.
FALCONE
I heard you wanted to see me bats, but I thought in the light you would burn up.
BATMAN
Sorry to disappoint
FALCONE
Well you disappointed me; now allow me to disappoint you. I’m not talking till I get a deal.
Action
BATMAN smacks FALCONE.
BATMAN
I’m no lawyer.
FALCONE
I can see that, lawyers dress better.
BATMAN
Why did you want JASON NASHTON?
FALCONE
Did?
BATMAN
He’s dead.
Action
FALCONE hits the table with his hand.
FALCONE
In my debt? That little shit.
BATMAN
Your debt?
FALCONE
Yeah, my drug- ah. You expect me to talk, to get myself caught, more evidence against me. Well let me put your mind at ease. Word on the street is that JASON has been a giant addict since his junior year of high school. He got hooked by this guy, DAMIAN STEPS. Anyway, he owed a lot of people a lot of money, and no one would dare to touch him. No one was going to kill him until he paid off his debts.
BATMAN
Is DAMIAN still on the streets?
Scene 4
INT. A DARK TUNNEL –MIDNIGHT-
DAMIAN STEPS is tied to a chair. In front of him is a bunch of blades, each shaped like question marks. A deep voice on a speaker comes on.
THE RIDDLER
Hello Mr. STEPS, if that is your real name. You are slime that corrupts the minds of the innocent. In laments terms, you are a bad man that turns people into bad men. You are on a conveyor belt, which leads into the blades in front of you. In half a minute, your timer will begin, and in a minute and a half, you will pay. Unless, however, you can answer my one question, in which case you will get your key out. Do you accept my terms?
DAMIAN STEPS
I do! I do!
THE RIDDLER
Very well then.
Action
The belt starts, and the blades shake.
THE RIDDLER
I may look like one, but I am really two. I am soft, with a hard center. What am I?
DAMIAN
Balls! Nuts! You’re [frick]ing dead when I get out!
THE RIDDLER
Your clock ticks DAMIAN. Not mine. You have 33 seconds.
Action
DAMIAN starts shaking erratically. Then he starts to shout out answers.
DAMIAN
You are stairs! You are leaves! You are-
Action
The blades pierce his body, and start to twist. Blood is spurting out; it is a very brutal and gory death.
THE RIDDLER
Time is up, dead man. By the way, I am a pear, also spelled pair. As in, a pair of heroes, that weren’t there for my family when they were killed. As in a pair of heroes that didn’t save my son from you, and the other culprits for my son’s demise. These two heroes will pay eventually. But for now, I have more direct fish to fry. These heroes are... BATMAN and ROBIN.
Action
RIDDLER laughs, then the camera goes through a two way mirror to show EDWARD NASHTON.
END OF ACT 1
Act 2
Scene 1
INT. POLICE OFFICE –NIGHT-
We are back outside the interrogation room, after BATMAN interrogates FALCONE. HARVEY DENT and JIM GORDON are waiting for him.
DENT
Did he talk?
BATMAN
Not directly incriminating himself, but I got a story on this JASON kid, and his dealer DAMIAN STEPS. GORDON, is there any word on the whereabouts of JASONS father?
GORDON
He hasn’t been seen since he left work yesterday afternoon. But I did get his story.
BATMAN
Spill it.
GORDON
His name is EDWARD CHARLES NASHTON, 48 years old. He’s a collage psychology professor. He is married to RITA NASHTON.
BATMAN
Tell me something I don’t know.
GORDON
As a child, he was extremely intelligent, to the point where his own father was jealous. He was often abused.
Action
HARVEY DENT cringes, but no one notices.
GORDON
He is a master of riddles and puzzles. He is also a computer expert.
BATMAN
Is he known to be abusive to his wife or kids?
GORDON
Nope, but he is known to be a real hard ass on grades. He would often yell at his children’s teachers if they gave his kids a bad mark.
BATMAN
Ok, what about STEPS, what is his story.
GORDON
His real name is DAMIAN STEFANO, but he deals under the name STEPS. He is 25 years old, and repeated two grades. He is well known for getting kids hooked at a young age. Been arrested three times, out on probation, also hasn’t been seen in the last 24 hours.
BATMAN
And you find nothing suspicious about that?
Action
GORDON gets a call on his radio.
DENT
You think STEPS killed them?
BATMAN
I don’t count anybody out.
GORDON
Well you better count STEPS out now, they just found him. His body has just been found in the old Ramen Tunnel, he is dead.
Scene 2
INT. RAMEN TUNNEL –NIGHT-
BATMAN, ROBIN, GORDON, and DENT are at the scene of DAMIAN’s death.
Action
ROBIN inspects the crime scene.
ROBIN
What a horrible way to die.
GORDON
Indeed, boy wonder. We place the time of death around 4 hours ago. No finger prints.
ROBIN
What happened to the window?
Action
They walk towards the two way mirror.
GORDON
That is a two way mirror, like the ones we have at the station. Apparently the killer wanted to see his work unravel.
BATMAN
Are there any suspects?
GORDON
No witnesses, this place have been long abandoned.
OFFICER KENT
Sir, I found something.
Action
OFFICER KENT holds up a tape, with a note that reads “To the DARK KNIGHT.”
GORDON
It looks as though you’ve been challenged to some sort of confrontation BATMAN.
Action
They put the tape into a microcassette player, which has been provided as well.
THE RIDDLER (on tape)
I have great respect for your profession. Or at least, I used to. I used to watch criminals go to jail every day, because of your help. I used to look up to you for that. But then I realized something. That your nothing to be afraid of, BATMAN. With brains, anyone can beat you, including me. You will find me to be your most dangerous enemy yet, due to you having not learned what it means to take a life. I intend to teach you what it takes to defeat an enemy that lies within your own head; after all, education is important. I will leave you two hints to my current location, because you can never learn what you aren’t told. The first hint: What state do people like seeing but not being seen in? Second hint: What is big and bulky, but unable to be seen? Good luck, caped crusader.
BATMAN
Well, COMMISIONER, it looks as though you were wrong about NASHTON, he’s back with a vengeance.
Scene 3
INT. POWER PLANT –TWILIGHT-
THE RIDDLER is at his hideout, which is an abandoned nuclear power plant. He is now wearing a pinstripe suit, white shirt, and green tie.
Action
THE RIDDLER is at his work desk, welding what looks like a question mark cane.
THE RIDDLER
Riddle me this
Action
THE RIDDLER presses a button on the cane, and a long harpoon shoots out, and hits a picture on the wall.
THE RIDDLER
Riddle me that, JUDGE CARROWS.
Scene 4
INT. HARVEY DENT’S OFFICE –MIDDAY-
HARVEY DENT is working on the FALCONE case at his desk, then FIELDS comes in.
HARVEY
Yes?
FIELDS
Sir, I got those FALCONE files you asked me to get.
HARVEY
Good job.
Action
HARVEY grabs the files. FIELDS looks at HARVEYS cluttered desk.
FIELDS
Wow sir that sure is a lot of work. Do you ever plan on leaving?
HARVEY
I got a trial tomorrow JOHN, maybe I’ll sleep afterwards.
FIELDS
What if you lose?
Action
HARVEY reaches into his pocket and pulls out a coin.
HARVEY
FIELDS, a case is a lot like this coin, you have a fifty-fifty chance of winning. Heads.
Action
He flips the coin, which turns out to be heads.
HARVEY
And in my case, I usually win.
FIELDS
Are you saying you always win?
Action
HARVEY nods
HARVEY
All I do is win, because that’s all I need to do.
Scene 5
INT. BATCAVE –DAY-
BRUCE WAYNE and DICK GRAYSON are at the computer, trying to figure out the answers to the riddles provided. ALFRED walks in.
ALFRED
Can I interest you in a sandwich sir?
BRUCE
I’m fine, DICK?
DICK
Sure ALFRED, a sandwich would be great.
Action
DICK slams a newspaper on the table. The title reads “BATMAN and the BOY WONDER, Puzzled by a RIDDLER?”
DICK
God damn it!
BRUCE
It’s just a title, DICK; these guys have to make their money some way, and bad news-
DICK
It’s not the negative publicity! I’m sick of being known as “THE BOY WONDER”! I’m sick of being known as the sidekick. I’m 19; I should be the main event, not the sideshow!
BRUCE
Well, what do you want from me? To quit being BATMAN, so ROBIN can be the hero? For what?
DICK
I’m not going to be ROBIN forever! Soon, it will be ROBIN’S revenge, where I’m my own hero! Tell ALFRED to send my sandwich to my room.
Action
DICK goes away, and BRUCE goes back to his computer.
Scene 6
INT. A BANQUET HALL –NIGHT-
JUDGE CARROWS is tied to what appears to be a giant target. The target lies in the middle of a wall, which is about 50 yards in length. THE RIDDLER’s voice goes on the intercom.
THE RIDDLER
All sit, for the soon to be burial of JUDGE CARROWS! The sacred JUDGE, who time and time again has been called “a soon to be supreme court judge”, is going to hell, for bowing to corruption, and letting mob bosses bribe him! How does he plead?
Action
An arrow shoots the far right side of the wall.
THE RIDDLER
Oh, only the answer of a question for his sins will save him here? I will ask you one question, and if you’re correct, you shall live. Ready to prove you aren’t scum?
Action
Another arrow shoots, this time a little closer to him, but still far away from him.
THE RIDDLER
What is it that nobody can get enough of, but no man what too much of? Oh and there’s a four guess limit, so I would think very hard.
JUDGE CARROWS
Food?
Action
An arrow shoots closer to him, and he can see, that the end of the arrow is shaped like a question mark.
JUDGE CARROWS
Ok, it isn’t food, can it be life?
Action
Another arrow shoots near him.
THE RIDDLER
No, it can’t be life, because right now you can’t get more than what you have!
JUDGE CARROWS
Money! Nobody wants too much of it, but nobody can say no to it!
Action
An arrow shoots.
THE RIDDLER
Just like my arrow, your answer is close, but not there yet!
JUDGE CARROWS is now disheartened, and has no confidence at all in himself. He realizes that anything he would say is wrong, so he says.
JUDGE CARROWS
I plead guilty, on charges of bribery and corruption.
Action
JUDGE CARROWS closes his eyes and waits for an arrow to pierce his body. After a minute of nothing happening, he opens his eye, and the board electrocutes him.
THE RIDDLER
Shocking, isn’t it, that you are literally given the answer; power. You let out the men who killed my son, or gave them lightened punishment because they had power. Well, now you are literally made of power.
Scene 7
INT. COURT ROOM –DAY-
HARVEY DENT is late for what he was told is court. When he walks in, however, the only person in the room is JOHN FIELDS.
HARVEY
Um, sorry I’m late?
FIELDS
Not late, right on time. JUDGE CARROWS is dead.
HARVEY
What?
FIELDS
Yep, he was killed yesterday by the RIDDLER. FALCONE was let out this morning. Funny thing about FALCONE; he hates you, so he requested something of me.
Action
FIELDS takes out a gun.
FIELDS
Still feel your wining?
Action
HARVEY is frozen with shock, but wakes up right when FIELDS shoots. The bullet grazes the side of his head.
HARVEY
It’s a good thing that I never took you hunting fields; you would have scared all the animals.
Action
FIELDS takes out a small flask, and walks towards DENT. He takes off the cap.
FIELDS
It looks like I just got a promotion.
Action
FIELDS pours the acid on DENTS left side, while the right side was covered by a piece of wood from the balcony.
END OF ACT 2
ACT 3
Scene 1
INT. EMERGENCY ROOM –SUNDAY AFTERNOON-
COMMISSIONER GORDON goes to the hospital because of HARVEY DENT, to see what exactly happened. DR. CRANE enters.
GORDON
What happened here?
DR. CRANE
HARVEY will live, but he will sustain permanent scarring on his face and neck area. The bullet shot at him severed a central nerve in his face, so that will make it almost pointless to do reconstruction surgery to fix the scaring.
GORDON
Um, DR. CRANE, with all due respect, what the [frick] is wrong with you? Pointless to fix the city’s hope, you can’t be serious?
OFFICER KENT
Sir?
GORDON
One second please, DR. CRANE. Yes OFFICER?
OFFICER KENT
We found DENT’S assistant, JOHN FIELDS. He had a vile in his pocket, with burn marks on the inside. After we discovered it, he admitted to the crime almost immediately, but refuses to say why. He’s in police custody right now.
GORDON
Why didn’t FIELDS just shoot DENT, he had a gun.
OFFICER KENT
He says that he was only provided one bullet, meaning there is more people involved, but still refuses to say who.
GORDON
It’s obvious KENT, it was FALCONE. FIELDS was the only other person that has had access to him, other than DENT himself, and the BATMAN. Do we have FALCONE’S location?
OFFICER KENT
We’ve checked his mansion, and his mistress’s house, not at neither. But he isn’t allowed out of the city, so he should be fine.
GORDON
That is, until he bribes his way out of here. Goddamn bastard.
OFFICER KENT
Yeah COMMISSIONER, where is the BATMAN at a time like this?
COMMISIONER GORDON
Hopefully doing more than you are at the present moment.
Scene 2
INT. BAT MOBILE –NIGHT-
BATMAN is patrolling the streets for FALCONE, and he still has no clue where he is (easter egg: he passes by a wall of graphite, with a giant word spelling HA!)
ROBIN (ON RADIO)
ROBIN to BATMAN, do you hear me?
BATMAN
Yes I do, what’s your progress?
ROBIN
So far nothing and you?
BATMAN
Same as you, I am right now going to check out one of his known hideouts. I’ll keep you posted.
Scene 3
INT. A BANQUET HALL –NIGHT-
BATMAN is at the same hall where JUDGE CARROW’S body was discovered. He starts looking through the crime scene. He then passes by some of the arrows. On one of which, he notices another tape recorder with a tape in it. He plays it.
THE RIDDLER
If at first you don’t succeed, why must you try again, BATMAN? This is the third person that I have killed, and you have so far failed to save any of them. Or, I might add, solve any of my riddles, because if you have, then you would have found me by now. So I have been asking myself, should I dare to ask BATMAN another question? Then, I got found my answer, which is that I must provide a timeline. So if this riddle isn’t answered by Monday night, then people will die. Your question is this: which farm in Gotham contains the most pigs? Remember your deadline, and I will advise you not to fail. *laughs*.
ROBIN
ROBIN to BATMAN, can you hear me? Over.
BATMAN
BATMAN to ROBIN, get back to the cave. We have no time to spare.
Scene 4
INT. DENTS HOSPITAL ROOM –MONDAY MORNING-
HARVEY DENT is out of surgery and asleep, with exactly half of his face and neck badly burnt. SARAH arrives to the hospital, takes a look at her fiancé, and cries a little bit. She then leaves her engagement ring on the table next to him, and leaves him.
Scene 5
INT. THE POWER PLANT –MORNING-
FALCONE is locked inside a cage, while the RIDDLER is over his work table.
FALCONE
Hey smart ass, what the hell do you want from me.
ACTION
THE RIDDLER puts on a brown bowler hat, and grabs his cane. He then walks to the cage.
THE RIDDLER
I want justice, MR. FALCONE. I bet you do too. And my name isn’t smart ass.
ACTION
THE RIDDLER picks up his cane, and jabs the helpless FALCONE very hard in the head with it.
THE RIDDLER
It’s RIDDLER. And right now I’d be hoping BATMAN arrives to save you before MIDNIGHT tonight.
Scene 6
INT. BATCAVE –NOON-
BRUCE WAYNE and DICK GRAYSON are trying to figure out the answers to the riddles.
BRUCE
What state do people like to be in, without being seen?
DICK
Well, this is kind of an impossible question to answer; there are 50 states, not one of which is unpopulated.
BRUCE
Well, this is a riddle, so maybe we should think outside the box.
DICK
Ok, so other states there are solid, liquid, gas, insanity, and nude.
BRUCE
What was that last thing you just said?
DICK
Nude, as in the nude state of body, being naked.
BRUCE
That’s the answer, everyone wants to be naked, but nobody likes being seen naked.
DICK
Good eye, now the second riddle, what is big and bulky, but not able to be seen?
BRUCE
This one is a bit simpler, its glass.
DICK
So we have nude, and glass, but how do those relate?
BRUCE
Perhaps, it’s not glass; it’s just clear in general.
DICK
So, nude and clear… nudeclear… nuclear!
BRUCE
As in the abandoned nuclear power plant, that’s where THE RIDDLERS hideout is. We have to go there tonight, and arrest him, stop him from killing more lives.
DICK
But BRUCE, are you forgetting about the third riddle? “Where is the biggest population of pigs in Gotham?” The answer is the Police Station; the RIDDLER is planning an assault there.
BRUCE
DICK, that can’t be our top priority right now, we have to stop him, not his plan.
DICK
BRUCE, there are people there, they will die, trust me, we have to go there.
BRUCE
I’m the hero; you’re the sidekick, now you listen to me.
DICK
Why are you the hero? Maybe I want to be the hero now, maybe it’s my time!
BRUCE
DICK, what has gotten into you lately? Why have been lashing out like this lately?
DICK
Because I’m sick of being in your spotlight! I’m sick of it being your way or the high way.
BRUCE
I’m the leader here, and as long as you stay in my house, it will remain that way.
DICK
Then don’t expect me to be here when you let hundreds of people die tonight!
ACTION
DICK leaves, and BRUCE watches, nearly heartbroken.
Scene 7
INT. HOSPITAL –AFTERNOON-
DR. CRANE is in HARVEY DENT’S hospital room when he is waking up. He sees the ring that SARAH left.
DR. CRANE
Glad to see your awake, MR. DENT. I’m DR. CRANE, and this is going to be a bit hard for you, but, you’re in the hospital.
HARVEY
What? Why?
DR. CRANE
You came here with severe acid burns, and a bullet wound to the head. JOHN FIELDS tried to kill you, but the police have him now.
Action
HARVEY picks up the ring and holds it up to his. DR. CRANE has his back turned, and is checking his charts.
HARVEY
Dr. did a woman come to see me, any woman?
DR. CRANE
Um, yeah, name was SARAH, I think. She only came in for a short time.
Action
HARVEY realizes that SARAH had left him because of his new facial scarring. He then flips his coin, and it lands on heads, he then sits up.
HARVEY
She was the love of our lives.
DR. CRANE
I’m sorry?
HARVEY
You should be.
Action
DR. CRANE turns around.
DR. CRANE
MR. DENT, are you ok.
Action
HARVEY starts to strangle DR. CRANE.
HARVEY
Don’t call us that! We’re terribly sorry about this DOCTOR, but justice has spoken. The flip of a coin, 50/50, has decided your fate like mine. Our former fiancé had the choice to either stay with us through thick or thin, or to leave us. We couldn’t believe it.
Action
DR. CRANE falls to the floor, unconscious.
HARVEY
Perhaps there is no justice but this: in life, you always have a 50/50 chance of making it or breaking it. Perhaps we shouldn’t be in a place to defend, but to judge. And right now…
Action
HARVEY flips his coin again, and then takes out a lighter.
HARVEY
… We have our eye on a certain target.
Action
HARVEY sets his hospital room on fire, and then leaves through the fire escape.
Scene 8
INT. POWER PLANT –NIGHT-
The RIDDLER and FALCONE are on top of the power plant tower. The RIDDLER is about to kill FALCONE.
RIDDLER
Well, MR. FALCONE, it looks as though your jailer, now your savior, is nowhere to be found. Now, its time for Gotham to see who is truly superior.
Action
RIDDLER picks up his cane and is about to press a button, but BATMAN appears right behind him.
BATMAN
EDWARD NASHTON, put down the cane.
Action
RIDDLER backs up to the edge. FALCONE stands up.
CARMINE
Oh, thank God you’re here BATMAN.
BATMAN
Shut up, you’re under arrest for the assault on HARVEY DENT.
RIDDLER
Hey BATMAN, what gets bigger the more you take away from it?
Action
RIDDLER presses the button on his cane, causing the runway to open up, which FALCONE and BATMAN fall into. BATMAN shoots his grappling hook and saves himself, but FALCONE dies. Then the RIDDLER presses another button on his cane, and a blade pops out.
RIDDLER
Don’t get it? Let me try an easy one: what has wings but can’t fly? Come on BATMAN, these are kindergarten riddles. You know, this plant, even though it has been vacant for years, still has radioactive residue near the bottom. Who knows, maybe you’ll transform in to a real man-bat? You disappoint me. You call yourself a hero, but you have allowed four people to die, and one to become seriously injured. You call yourself a detective, but you can’t even solve the question that you are given straight out. Maybe, you need a break.
Action
RIDDLER starts cutting the rope BATMAN is suspended on.
RIDDLER
You have been defeated, and no one can save you now, or the police station. You thought I was lying? I have the detonator right here.
Action
The RIDDLER holds up a bomb detonator.
RIDDLER
You have failed.
NIGHTWING
No he hasn’t.
Action
NIGHTWING swoops in, costume and all, and he kicks RIDDLER over the edge. NIGHTWING then shoots his grappling gun, and it attaches to RIDDLER’S leg, saving him. He is still very deep though.
NIGHTWING
So, I was wrong about the station?
Action
NIGHTWING drops the bomb detonator into the pit. Then he pulls BATMAN up. BATMAN inspects his new costume.
BATMAN
Nice suit, a lot darker than your ROBIN costume though. Have some help designing it?
NIGHTWING
I’ve wanted to go off by myself for some time now.
Action
BATMAN looks at the symbol on NIGHTWING’S chest.
BATMAN
What’s the name?
NIGHTWING
NIGHTWING.
Scene 9
INT. POLICE STATION –NIGHT-
BATMAN has put RIDDLER in jail. He is right now talking to COMMISIONOR GORDON.
GORDON
He’ll be seeing bars for a long time. He’s due in court, as soon as we can find a new D. A. and a judge.
BATMAN
Hopefully HARVEY DENT will be in better shape.
GORDON
Yeah…
Action
GORDON brings BATMAN to a side.
GORDON
…HARVEY is gone. His hospital room burnt and his doctor is badly injured. But he is gone. We presume kidnapped by one of FALCONE’S men or successors. No evidence or leads.
BATMAN
I’ll look into it COMMISIONOR.
Scene 10
INT. OUTSIDE WAYNE MANOR –MIDDAY-
DICK GRAYSON is on his motorcycle, about to head off on his own.
BRUCE
Where do you think you’ll go?
DICK
Anywhere, but here or Metropolis. I just have to be my own man.
BRUCE
You know I’m getting older, right?
DICK
So?
BRUCE
Can I rely on you to answer the phone when I call?
Action
DICK revs his engine.
DICK
You got it, BATMAN.
Action
DICK leaves, going off on his own, and BRUCE on his own to protect Gotham, for now anyways.
Scene 11
(AFTER CREDITS SCENE)
INT. CONFERENCE ROOM –DAY-
FALCONE’S men are meeting in a room, until they are interrupted by HARVEY DENT.
HARVEY
You are left without a leader, men. We though…
Action
HARVEY flips his coin, it lands on heads.
HARVEY
