Daredevil: Hell Night (A Marvel Studios Fancast & Movie Pitch)

Daredevil: Hell Night (A Marvel Studios Fancast & Movie Pitch)

Since Kevin Feige is taking over taking over Marvel's television properties and possibly bringing them into the MCU fold, I thought I'd have another stab at some of my past fancasts.

Plot Summary

With the sudden reappearance of millions of people who had previously vanished following Thanos' attack on Earth, the U.S. government enacted sweeping measures to help large portions of the country reestablish their identities and deal with the legal fallout that arises when you effectively lose five years of your life. Having made a name for themselves as a very capable and reputable law firm during the darkest moments of the crisis, the offices of Nelson, Murdock, & Page have been working overtime with the courts to provide legal representation to many of the displaced citizens of New York City hoping to get their lives back on track. They've also worked outside of the court system to help keep the streets of New York safe through the actions of the vigilante Daredevil.

Now, Matt Murdock and company find themselves looking forward to a brighter future as their firm continues to grow and the world is slowly returning to some sense of normalcy. That hope proves to be short lived, however, when Matt is nearly killed by sniper fire while visiting the home of a potential client, and Foggy and Karen seemingly disappear into thin air after visiting the offices of a company called Midas Investments. Now on a mission to rescue his friends, Matt Murdock and his firm's newest investigator, Dakota North, quickly find themselves trying to survive a gauntlet of powerful mercenaries as they attempt to uncover a large criminal conspiracy.

Despite being blinded as a child, Daredevil's remaining senses are enhanced to a superhuman level of  accuracy and sensitivity. His sense of hearing is sharp enough to detect even the most miniscule changes in his environment as well as grant him a form of human echolocation and lie detection. His senses of smell, touch, and taste are just as acute and give him a near supernatural ability to gain information about the people, places and objects surrounding him as well as afford him the ability to detect impending threats even before his conscious mind has time to process the information. Finally, Daredevil's sense of balance and reaction time are far beyond that of a normal human and allows him to perform near impossible feats of agility and acrobatics.

Who Is Matt Murdock...

Why I chose to stick with Charlie Cox
I chose to stick with Charlie Cox because I believe he did an amazing job playing Matt Murdock on the Netflix series and deserves to have a crack at portraying Daredevil on the big screen. In the film, Matt and Dakota would find themselves trying to survive a series of well trained mercenaries that are all looking to kill an unassuming banking associate named Austin Cao

Dakota North

Character
Marvel Bio (HERE)
Height- 5'7"
Age- early to mid 30's

Actress
Laura Prepon ("Orange is the New Black", "That 70's Show", "The Girl on the Train")
Age- 39 years old
Height- 5' 10"

Personality Traits
Trustworthy. Professional. Observant. Adaptable. Smart. Thorough. Sarcastic. Cool under pressure. A problem solver. Patient. Honest. Discreet.

Enhanced Abilities
Although Dakota is a skilled private investigator and security expert that is well trained in various forms of armed and unarmed combat, she does not possess any enhanced abilities.

Who is Dakota North...
Dakota North is a noted private investigator and security specialist who relocated from Los Angeles to New York shortly after "The Battle of New York". She has been the lead investigator for the law firm Nelson, Murdock, & Page for a little over a year at the start of the film.

Where she fits in the film's story
In the film, Dakota would be a smart, tough, and funny partner to Matt Murdock/Daredevil. She should catch Murdock off-guard pretty early in the film by putting together the fact that he's Daredevil. At work she should be prompt and professional where Matt and company often seem distracted by a million different things. She should bring a dry sense of humor to those moments when Matt is taking himself too seriously or wracking himself with guilt. Like Doc Holliday in "Tombstone", there should be a steadying coolness about her, especially when she's facing overwhelming odds. Still, as an outsider thrust into a world of blind ninja lawyers, powered up hitmen, and secret organizations she should also have moments where she marvels at the craziness of it all and often says the thing that most of the audience is thinking.

Interesting Fact

Early in her career Dakota was hired to provide security for the socialite/reality TV star Paris Hilton for a charity event. During the post-party red carpet walk, the CEO of Hammer Industries, Justin Hammer, attempted to push his way past Dakota (who he mistook as one of  Hilton's hangers-on) in order to schmooze with the hotel heiress. A brief altercation erupted between the executive and the bodyguard which resulted in Hammer nursing a bloody nose for the rest of the night and Dakota receiving a $50,000 bottle of champagne from Tony Stark the next day.

Austin Cao

Who is Austin Cao
Austin Cao is a former investment associate and translator in the "Language Services" department of Midas Investments.

Where he fits in the film's story
Prior to his termination from Midas InvestmentsAustin was a hardworking and generally well-liked member of the Midas Investments family. He shared a great professional and personal relationship with his managing director, Marcus Randall, and had just received an exceptional annual performance review. On his last day at the firm, he overheard a senior associate speaking to an older client in Cantonese and decided to see if he could place the client's particular dialect - just for fun. He almost immediately placed the client as being from Madripoor, but soon found himself wrapped up in their conversation. They were connecting the firm to organizations and deals that he had never heard of and kept referencing an upcoming operation that Marcus Randall had been working on for several months. After returning to his desk, he searched the firm's network to see if he could find any information on some of the names mentioned in the conversation, but didn't have any luck. An hour later, Mr Randall approached him at his desk and unceremoniously fired him for "forgery and mismanagement of a client's funds" before having him escorted out of the building by security. Hurt and dumbfounded by his sudden termination, Cao spent the next couple of days bouncing between anger and self-pity before finally deciding to get in touch with the offices of Nelson, Murdock, & Page to see if he could sue his former employer for wrongful termination.

Dr Gerard and the members of The Exchange fund their research by providing a number of financial, logistical, and security services to some of the world's most dangerous criminal enterprises. At the start of the film, Dr Gerard is made aware of the fact that an employee at one of The Exchange's New York based financial companies may have stumbled onto sensitive information about the group's latest undertaking - "The Madripoor Operation". Personality Traits
Calculating. Nihilistic. Transactional. Effective.

Enhanced Abilities
Although J.R. is extremely proficient in various forms of armed and unarmed combat, explosives, and military strategy, he does not possess any enhanced abilities.

Who is Shotgun
J.R. Walters is a former Force Recon Marine Scout Sniper who became a soldier-for-hire after his stint in the U.S. military was terminated. He is connected to The Exchange by way of a U.S. based paramilitary company called INVICTUS - which uses The Exchange to covertly move its money, weapons, and operatives all across the globe. His past beyond that isn't widely known.

Where he fits in the film's story
The Exchange enlists J.R.'s services when they decide to assassinate a former Midas Investments associate named Austin Cao. When he accepts the contract, he has to interrupt his training of a new INVICTUS contractor named Teresa Vasquez. Believing that his trainee would benefit from accompanying him on a relatively easy job, he adds her account to the contract. After receiving details about the target, Walters walks the young operative through the steps of setting up and ultimately taking the killshot. But when Teresa fails to kill Austin and the job unexpectedly starts to go off the rails, J.R. finds himself needing to quickly improvise in order to fulfill the contract. Having seen Teresa's speed and agility in person, he orders his trainee to quickly get over to Cao's apartment before he can make it to the street while he makes his way to their SUV. A car chase through the streets of Hell's Kitchen ensues as Dakota, Matt and Austin struggle to stay one step ahead of Teresa and a quickly gaining J.R. After a crash between the two vehicles leads to a tense game of cat-and-mouse in an abandoned office complex, J.R. finds himself being temporarily blinded then knocked out by Dakota when she shines a bright light in his eyes while his shades are in "night vision" mode and hits him in the head with a large wrenchHe awakens a short time later to find Teresa lying unconscious in another part of the building while the sound of police sirens quickly approaches from the distance. Their "easy" target, unfortunately, is nowhere to be found.

Interesting Fact
Walters possesses an arsenal of customized, high powered firearms that can deliver a number of conventional and unconventional rounds. He also possess a pair of technologically advanced "shades" that can see in a number of visual spectrums and provide him up-to-the-minute information about his surroundings.

Teresa Vasquez (Fer-de-Lance)

Character
Marvel Bio (HERE)
Height- 5' 7"
Age- mid to late 20's

Actress
Genesis Rodriguez ("Tusk", "Hours", "The Last Stand", "Time After Time")
Height
- 5' 7"
Age- 32 years old

Personality Traits
Guarded. Observant. Quiet. Predatory. Aggressive. Fearless. Dutiful

Enhanced Abilities
As one of Dr Gerard's first and most dedicated test subjects, Teresa Vasquez has undergone several medical procedures that have covered the tissues and nerves of her skeletal muscles in a biosynthetic mesh which gives her superhuman strength, enhanced speed, and limited resistance to blunt injury.

Who Is Teresa Vasquez
Teresa Vasquez is a former Sergeant 1st Class in the U.S. Army who volunteered to become a test subject for Dr. Gerard after suffering a debilitating injury on the battlefield. She is also a newly contracted operative for a secretive paramilitary organization called INVICTUSVasquez is an exceptionally skilled close-quarter combatant whose speed and proficiency with weapons such as combat knives, sais, garrotte wires, and her signature wrist blades has quickly made her one of the best stealth operatives in her field.

Where she fits in the film's story
At some point prior to the film, Vasquez began sniper and demolitions training with J.R. "Shotgun" Walters in an effort to make herself a more valuable asset to both INVICTUS and The Exchange. When we are introduced to Teresa, she is given an opportunity to make some serious (and much needed) cash by taking on the "Austin Cao" contract with J.R.. However, after failing to successfully terminate the target, she finds herself struggling to control her frustration and remain focused as she knows that reneging on a contract with INVICTUS will result in a serious financial penalty as well as create a strike against her in the eyes of some very powerful and unforgiving individuals. After using her enhanced abilities to quickly scale down the side of the building that she was perched on, pursue Dakota's car on foot for several minutes, and engage in an intense close quarter brawl with Matt Murdock (who she incorrectly assumes is some sort of government agent), Teresa is subdued by Dakota when she is shot in the arm by one of J.R's electrified rounds. When she awakens, she finds herself in the passenger seat of J.R.'s SUV with her partner using his severely damaged, hi-tech eyewear to cautiously navigate the streets of New York. When she unintentionally looks down at his docked cell phone, she discovers that he has pulled them out of the "Austin Cao" contract and that they are now both indebted to INVICTUS for a large amount of money.

Interesting Fact
An unintended consequence of the biosynthetic experiments that have made her a super soldier is that Vasquez has become addicted to a feedback-stimuli "rush" that overwhelms her whenever she engages in intense combat.

Prior to the start of the film, Randall became deeply involved with the criminal outfit known as The Exchange as he ran point on a lot of their money laundering schemes and personally handled his company's involvement with a large scale operation known as "The Madripoor Operation". When Austin Cao's computer is flagged for searching a number of sensitive names and transactions, he does his best to quickly cover up Austin's trail then abruptly fires his young protege in an attempt to protect him from his very dangerous overseers. His actions prove futile however as Dr Gerard discovers both Austin and Marcus' actions and takes step to eliminate the young analyst. Because of his importance to Midas Investments and "The Madripoor Operation", Marcus's life is spared, but his wife and young granddaughter are forcefully brought to a secure area at his place of business as an incentive to keep him from making any more mistakes. When he is contacted by Dr Gerard and told that Austin and a pair of strangers somehow managed to survive their assassination attempt, he quickly becomes worried that The Exchange may decide to just cut ties with Midas Investments and kill him and his family while tying up loose ends. After remembering that there's a stubborn lawyer and paralegal named Franklin Nelson and Karen Page still waiting in the lobby for a chance to speak to him about Austin, he suggests to Dr Gerard that one of the "strangers" helping out his former protege is most likely the third partner at Nelson, Murdock, & Page ... Matt Murdock. Dr Gerard realizes that she can use Foggy and Karen as leverage against Murdock and orders a pair of INVICTUS soldiers to detain Foggy and Karen then tells Randall to make sure neither Austin or his lawyers live to talk about any of what has happened. Using Karen's phone, Randall calls Matt and tells him that he's holding his friends at the offices of Midas Investments and that he needs to deliver Austin - dead or alive - to him if he ever wants to see his friends again. The plan quickly falls apart as the vigilante Daredevil crashes the hostage exchange, takes out all of the INVICTUS operatives, and frees all of the hostages. Afterwards, a tearful Marcus apologizes to Austin and starts spilling his guts about The Exchange and why they want the young man dead. When Foggy offers to protect him and his family if he agrees to testify against The Exchange, he dismissively declines and tells the young lawyer that he and his wife always knew that this day would come and that they had already worked out their own backup plan. He then kisses his wife before leading her and their granddaughter to an abandoned looking car in the parking lot across from Midas Investments. Surprisingly the broken down looking car starts up with a roar and Marcus and his family speed off into the night for parts unknown.

Mary Walker (Walker; Virgin Mary; Typhoid Mary; Bloody Mary)

Character
Marvel Bio (HERE)
Height- 5' 10"
Age- early to mid 30's

Actress
Alice Eve ("Iron Fist", "Star Trek: Into Darkness", "Black Mirror")
Height- 5' 5"
Age- 37 years old

Personality Traits
Mary Walker suffers from dissociative identity disorder. As a result, she has at least four distinct personalities with their own set of traits. The "Walker" personality is focused, detached, and tactical. The "Mary" personality is sweet, timid, and shy. The "Typhoid Mary" personality is bold, unpredictable, and reckless. And the rarely seen "Bloody Mary" personality is psychotic, unstable, and violent.

Enhanced Abilities
While the "Virgin Mary" and "Walker" personalities do not possess any enhanced abilities, the "Typhoid Mary" personality has pyrokinetic abilities that allow her to ignite, extinguish, and manipulate fire and the "Bloody Mary" personality has telekinetic abilities that allows her to control objects and projectiles with her mind. She can use this last ability as a defensive mechanism by deflecting objects hurled at her back towards her opponents or as an offensive mechanism by launching objects towards targets with a high level of speed and accuracy.

Who is Mary Walker
Mary Walker is a former private investigator turned mercenary who is a member of a mysterious group calling itself Black Sky. The group is associated with The Exchange and is primarily composed of former members of The Hand. As a member of Black SkyWalker traffics in corporate espionage, extortion, blackmail, kidnappings, and the occasional contract killing.

Where she fits in the film's story
In the film Mary Walker enters the conflict after Daredevil and Dakota rescue Karen and Foggy from the offices of Midas Investments. Gerard and The Exchange reacts to their loss of leverage over Matt by placing an "open season" contracts on the pair as well as Foggy and Karen. While Walker has no interest in taking on any of the "kill" contracts, she becomes very interested the high-paying "capture" contract that Dr Gerard places on Daredevil. She tracks down and nearly captures the vigilante while he is interrogating a local informant on a rooftop, but eventually has to tap into her "Typhoid Mary" persona when Daredevil proves to be more than "Walker" can handle. As "Walker" morphs into "Typhoid Mary", Matt finds himself mesmerized as he "watches" Mary give off a new scent, new vital signs, and a new aura that changes from fiery orange to a swirling mix of red and pink. Wasting no time, "Typhoid Mary" encircles the rooftop in flames and begins manically attacking Daredevil. Although she is able to get in a few good blows and even cuts Matt's left arm and leg with her twin machetes, he eventually gets the upper hand and knocks out the strange mercenary. As the flames begin to die away and Daredevil wrestles with continuing on his mission or taking his attacker some place where she can't hurt anyone else, a new scent flows through the air and cause him to turn around. He again watches as the unconscious young woman transforms from a crazed attacker with a reddish aura and an amped up heart rate to an afraid young woman with a light-blue glow and a slower heart beat. Noticing that she is becoming more and more scared as he approaches, Matt stops in his tracks and assures the newly emerge "Virgin Mary" persona that he is not going to hurt her and that he just wants some answers. After the pair make their way down a fire escape and to a nearby alley, Matt begins to barrage Mary with a bunch of questions about The Exchange, Dr Gerard, and who else is out to hurt him and his friends. And to each new question she honestly answers "I don't know!". Finally he asks the now terrified woman "What's your name?", and she cautiously replies "Mary". Before he can figure out another approach to get information from Mary, some residents from the still smoking building call out to them from the street and ask if they're alright. Regaining his bearings, Matt tells her to go before scaling back up to a nearby rooftop to continue on his mission.

Interesting Fact
Over the years, Mary's personalities have developed a means of monitoring and communicating with one another through the use of recorded messages and a number of security cameras placed throughout their apartment. "Walker" - who considers herself to be the alpha of the other personalities - seems to be able to "call up" the other personalities on demand. It is "Walker"  gave "Typhoid Mary" her nickname because she always appears to be in the midst of a manic episode in her videos and the right half of her face blanches to pale white for some unknown reason. The "Bloody Mary" persona doesn't record messages for the other personalities, but she is occasionally seen on  the security footage from their shared apartment. She received the nickname "Bloody Mary" because of her ghostly pale skin and blood red eyes. She also has a tendency to stare at herself in mirrors for hours on end and is generally regarded as "creepy as hell" by the other personalities. "Typhoid Mary" is the only persona to call the timid "Mary" personality "Virgin Mary".

When Daredevil finally arrives at The Exchange's New York based research facility, he quickly takes out a small group of foot soldiers from INVICTUS and Black Sky before he is attacked by Suvik. Their fight is brutal and one-sided for the most part as Matt has a hard time pinpointing the location of the masked figure with his enhanced senses. When Senyaka begins to attack with his bioelectric whips, a series of memories begin to flood Matt's mind as his energy is drained out of him. However, as memories of his father and Elektra begin to enter his mind, Matt finds himself fighting the effects of the whips, and even starts to reverse the flow of energy when he remembers his training with Stick. Realizing this, Suvik breaks his connection to Daredevil and is about to attack him with a katana when he himself is suddenly stabbed through the hand by a metal spike. While trying to figure out where the attack came from, he is struck several more times by various objects - including some shurikens, a kunai knife, a couple of throwing darts, a dart board, and finally a pencil to the center of his forehead. Before Senyaka's body even has a chance to fall to the floor, Matt knows exactly who is responsible.

And now that he has returned to the world of the living and fate has allowed him to once again face off against DaredevilBullseye quickly makes his way to New York and arrives just in time to stand in front of his enemy moments before he can achieve his goal of bringing down Gerard and the rest of The Exchange. Believing that he and only he deserves the right to kill Daredevil, Bullseye kills Senyaka and a few other foot soldiers who try to take on Daredevil before facing off against the exhausted vigilante himself. While the two enemies duke it out a brutal fight, Dr Gerard orders some of her men to set off EMP "scrubber" device at the base of the building and orders everyone else to abandon the building. As she is collecting some documents from her office, she notices that someone is remotely accessing her personal computer. After disconnecting and destroying her computer, she hurriedly makes her way to Daredevil and Bullseye's battle while everyone else is abandoning ship before the EMP device goes off. She stops the battle with a gunshot in the air then demands to know who is accessing their system. We see via flashback how Dakota and Austin came up with a plan to steal information from The Exchange by using a Rubber Ducky USB Drive© to steal passwords, IP addresses, hostnames and more information from The Exchange's network then create a backdoor for them to access their networks remotely. But for the plan to work, they would need time to discover Dr Gerard's computer as well as an distraction that would draw her away from it long enough for them to get what they needed. Finally giving in to her growing anger and frustration with Daredevil's meddling, she lowers her gun to Matt's head and decides to just kill him. She doesn't get the chance however as Bullseye stabs her in the abdomen with Seyaka's katana moments before the building goes black from the EMP blast.

Conclusion

Several days later, we see Matt recuperating in his apartment, nursing a number of cuts and bruises and taking a couple of aspirin. As he sits on the edge of his bed, staring at nothing in particular, we see flashbacks of a young Matt and his father as well as clips of Matt and Elektra. After a few minutes, we see his face wince - not because of his bruises, but because Foggy just pulled up outside, and he and the Uber driver are singing Queen's "We Are The Champions" at the top of their lungs. After a few moments, Foggy makes his way upstairs and Matt tells him to come in before he has a chance to knock. Foggy excitedly tells Matt that their contact at the Justice Department just got in touch with him and said that the information that he and the team have provided so far has helped to build at least three different RICO cases on some well known criminals and that they've already arrested a number of people involved in an illegal arms deal being run out of Port Newark. After a long pause, Matt asks "...but?", to which Foggy reluctantly responds "But, The Exchange had already started closing ranks when you showed up at their headquarters...". We see government agent conducting raids in several different countries but all of the businesses are either empty or completely destroyed."....and it's looking less and less likely that they'll be able to take the whole organization down. At least not now anyway." He tries to reassure Matt by adding "...I'm sure they're going to send what we found to like the Avengers or something. Soooo....." . There's another long pause. He also tells Matt that as far as Dakota's been able to tell, the bounties on their heads disappeared the night he took down Dr Gerard and haven't gone back up since. Matt responds by saying "That's probably because the fallout wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, and the masterminds behind this whole thing have probably cut their loses and moved on to greener pastures"Matt drags himself to the couch and flops down before asking "...any news on the other thing?"Foggy can't hide his disappointment as he lets out a meek "...afraid not". We cut away to see a smirking Bullseye walking down a busy New York street dressed in civilian clothes as the Rolling Stone's "Time Is On My Side" plays in the background.

Charlie Cox, Alice Eve, and Wilson Bethel can not portray these characters again unless Netflix allows it or Disney buys them out. Neither circumstance is believable. This is dead issue and you are making it worse by not letting it have a decent, peaceful, passing. Shoosh.

@JDL - Hey..relax. It's just a fancast. None of this is likely to happen.

@MRVN - Perpetuating a lie is a disservice to all of us.

@JDL - lol....what?!? Listen man, my fancast is just wishful thinking at best and an adult spending too much time thinking about a bunch of imaginary people at worst. I'm not forcing anyone to read this - as evidenced by how few people have actually read it. This is just something that I did for fun and thought other fans of the Netflix series would enjoy. If you don't like the idea that is perfectly fine. But just a heads up.... I'm still going to keep writing them.

@MRVN - I don't have a problem with you having a fantasy. It's pointless of course in this case since barring a change like I mentioned it can not actually happen.

But there are a lot of people on this site who think that the Netflix shows work just like a regular TV when it gets cancelled and that's not true. By not making it clear that these actors can't be used in the same roles you feed their delusions and in the end give them baseless false hopes. That's unkind.

@JDL - They can appear two years after the cancellation of the Netflix series - so not such a delusional notion after all.

@Kman - It's the characters that can appear, not the actors, and not the storylines.

2 or 3 years after the last appearance on Netflix they can recast the roles and reuse that part of the IP that is unique to and solely owned by Marvel. They can not continue the Netflix storylines or use the actors in the same roles. Contractually those constitute a legal expression of the IP owned by Netflix.

@JDL - Do you have any kind of source stating Charlie Cox can never return to the role, ever outside of Netflix? Because I'm not seeing that anywhere.
JDL
JDL - 11/20/2019, 1:58 AM
@Kman - It's simply part of contract law. When you have derivative works such as the Netflix series and you (Marvel) transfer a limited version of those rights to a second party (Netflix) via a contract, all the elements of that expression are part of the transfer. This includes the actors in those specific roles as part of the "expression". That does not preclude using any of the actors in other roles.

The question is what is the life span of the restrictions and that is unknown. Normal practice would be that it is long enough that should the rights return to Marvel they would have little or no value added remaining from the Netflix contract. But there is no law saying they have to do what is normal. We just don't know.

What we do know is that Netflix owns what has been filmed. Unless it's bought by someone it will stay there ad nauseam.
