A brief overview...
Fathom begins as the cruise ship Paradise arrives in San Diego 10 years after it was reported to have disappeared. A military quarantine was established to cross examine the crew and passengers, however no one on board knew that they had been missing. Compounding the mystery was an amnesiac girl discovered by the crew while the Paradise was still at sea. The girl could only remember that her name was Aspen. Aspen was taken from the ship by a vacationing naval officer named Captain Matthews, who adopted her and raised her as his own. Aspen has a strange attraction to water, and spent much of her youth swimming, eventually making the US Olympic team for the 1988 Seoul games. She even wins the gold, but has her medal taken away after she gives an abnormal response to a drug test. Afterwards, Aspen attended UC San Diego and received a degree in Marine Biology. She is then invited to study at a top-secret underwater science facility known as the DMD, or Deep Marine Discovery. The DMD is a joint project between the United States and Japan. The facility was built over a strange underwater craft of unknown origin, which both nations study to determine its origin. However, the Americans and Japanese no longer trust each other, and rely on an intermediary named Cannon Hawke to share research data. Aspen is also introduced to a mysterious man who somehow entered the DMD and requested to be placed into a tube filled with water. He requires no air, leading the DMD to deduce that despite his appearance, he is not human.
Meanwhile, a US Navy test pilot named Chance Calloway is testing an experimental amphibious fighter plane for Admiral Maylander, who heads Naval Intelligence. Maylander is also the man who oversaw the quarantine of the Paradise. Chance's wingman is suddenly killed by a craft resembling the one at the DMD. Violating orders, Chance pursues the craft, first in the air, and then underwater. Disobeying orders, he fires a torpedo at the craft, only to have it dissolve into the water before the torpedo reaches its target. Without a target, the torpedo locks onto the generator at the DMD, and destroys it, severely damaging the facility. Before she drowns, Aspen is rescued by the man in the tube, who springs to life and attempts to take her with him. He begins to dissolve into water just like the alien craft, and Aspen begins to subconsciously dissolve as well. However, Naval rescue teams arrive and the man flees. Aspen is rescued, but not before Calloway sees her in her half-dissolved form. He goes AWOL to try and find Aspen and figure out what he saw. He eventually finds Aspen, who cannot explain her abilities. Before she can find out any further, she is abducted by government personnel, and brought to Killian, the man held in the DMD. He tells Aspen that she is a member of a race of aquatic humanoids called the Blue, who possess the ability to control water.

Aspen Matthews- Aspen is Fathom's main character, she arrives on a boat thought to have sunk years ago with no memories of who she is or where she came from. With strong ties to the water, she goes on to become an Olympic swimmer, a marine biologist, and eventually becomes involved in research at a high-tech underwater lab. It is there that she discovers a mysterious underwater race, and quickly realizes that her past is about to catch up with her. As Aspen discovers she has special "water-based" powers, she also realizes that her once normal life is about to cease forever. My choice, who is already playing her. Megan Fox.
Chance Callaway- Chance is a test pilot for the U.S. Navy. One day, while investigating a fast bright light underneath the ocean, he fired a torpedo at it, but unfortunately, the Blue that he was chasing dissolved and the torpedo hit a top secret facility called DMD (Deep Marine Discovery). Aspen was apart of the DMD team and nearly drowned due to his mistake. Even though someone named Matthew Tate has been cast to play this character. I have no idea who he is. So I choose Chris Pine. He's obviously got the chops to play a Navy man, and frankly I think could nail this role perfectly.
Finn- Finn is Aspen's brother. When Aspen escaped from Killian, Finn escaped with her. In the explosion that cost her her memory, Finn lost the ability to turn back into flesh and blood and is stuck in water form. For Finn I am choosing Adam Brody, for the same reason I chose him as Aqua lad. He just looks like he should go swimming. Plus, I think he would do a good job of playing the loving brother who would do anything to protect his sister.
Kyla- Kyla is a member of Killian’s group, she was entrusted to helping Aspen understand her powers, and Killian’s plans. Things turned the other way around, and Killian found out that Kyla was in league with Cannon, and she was a big help in Aspen's escape But Taras killed her for her betrayal. Aspen deeply regretted her loss, as she felt that Kyla had been the only person to show her true feelings. For Kyla, I chose a lesser known actress. Since this is a small part, I felt that an actress with decent abilities who looks the part was more important than an actress with great abilities who would demand money. I chose Mei Melancon.
Killian-Killian was Aspen's mentor in using her water-based powers, and trained her on how to use them.This eventually worked against him. When Aspen found out about his plans, she used her powers to stop him, and in a big way. She killed Killian during the battle at the D.M.D. For this role I chose Stephen Moyer. I'm not going to explain why because I have no logical reason. It just seems perfect to me.
Admiral Maylander- Admiral Maylander makes another in a long line of fateful decisions, he has got a lot of information about everybody else, but has a lot to hide. He tried use his knowledge and power scheming along with Killian, but it all backfired leading to death of many of his own men. I went a little astray with this role. I chose Adam Baldwin. I've seen him play the "secretly" evil guy many times. I think he could do this role with ease and put a lot into it. He's not quite old enough for the character in my opinion. But, as we all know. That's an easy fix.
Cannon Hawke- Cannon is a liaison between the American and Japanese interests of D.M.D. Events have also revealed that Cannon himself belongs to the underwater race together with Killian, and was present when the Paradise disappeared. While his motives are unclear, he was with Aspen in the battle with Killian in the D.M.D. For the role of Cannon, I chose Mark Dacascos. His acting career has held strong for many years, proving his acting ability, and in most cases, his fighting ability. Both necessary for this role. He's in great shape and looks the part.
Taras- Taras is Killian's right hand man, Taras led the attacks on the surface. He was a ruthless field general.Taras has a deep anger towards the surface dwellers. He was the one who killed Kyla, which deeply angered Aspen. Taras however, met his own end during a fight with Cannon. Taras was killed as Cannon hurled him into the energy beam. For Taras, I chose Karl Urban. Mainly for his roles in films such as Pathfinder and Lord of the Rings. He has proven time and time again that he can play a great warrior. Plus, I think he would look evenly matched against Mark Dacascos as Cannon.
Tyler Kincaid- Tyler is Aspen's roommate. She's a TV reporter who's a lot different from Aspen. She's a real party animal, but has a serious attitude towards her job, especially when taking scoops. For Tyler, I once again chose a lesser known actress. I've only seen this girl in two movies. One being last years Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler. She played a teenage girl who liked to party. A little tweaking and it's practically the same character. I chose Teresa Palmer.
Kiani- Kiani is an Elite Blue. She was orphaned when she was still young. Casque took her in to raise and train her to become a warrior. She is a member of the Security Force of the Blue Council. Since she will be seen along side Megan and Mark throughout quite a bit of the movie. I thought a well known actress was needed for the reason of not shadowing out the character. I chose Ali Larter as Kiani.
Baha- The captain known only as "Baha" is as crazy as they come, considering he has dual-personalities. He appeared to Aspen in Fathom #10, while tracking down a mysterious underwater beast he calls "big moe" responsible for killing a few humans. Once again. I chose an actor who is not quite old enough for the role. But, with some make-up and possibly a wig. I think Rob Schneider could play a downright perfect Baha.
Now, that that's done. I want to say that I tried to make this article as neat, and informative as possible. Mainly for some of our pickier readers(Yohon.) But, it was hard to find some of these pictures and I had to settle for what I could get. That being said....Lemme know what ya think.
