Before reading this, please be aware that this is not a direct adaptation of The Flash. This is more or less my own interpretation, with a combination of comic related events created into a film I’ve envisioned. Feel free to criticize the work, just refrain from calling it unfaithful to source, as it isn’t intended to be overly faithful. Some events within this hold the comic book events, but I doubt any die-hard Flash fan would deem with faithful. Also, if any of this is formatted horribly or incorrectly I apologize, as this is my first fan cast.
I intended to put smaller actors in these particular roles and even with a non-Oscar cast I’m fairly happy with the outcome and overall fitting of everyone in this cast from Patrick Flueger to Gil Bellows.
Patrick Flueger as Barry Allen
Patrick Flueger isn’t an overly known actor, but that wasn’t my goal when looking for this cast. His biggest role to date would probably be his 42 appearance on The 4400, but at only 27 his career is still an open book. Though I’ve only seen a small amount of The 4400, I’ve seen him in a couple of smaller roles, and while none really scream any relation to Barry Allen, I think he’s more than capable of pulling of this role.
Lee Pace as Eobard Thawne
Lee Pace is probably the cream of the crop on this list, with several Golden Globe nominations to his name. I’ll admit that I’ve even seen a couple of Pushing Daises episodes, as sad as that sounds. I recently saw him in Soldier’s Girl and thought he did fairly good in that role, and after doing some research found out he appeared in The Good Shepherd, which is an awesome film, though I don’t remember his appearance. His appearance is what brought me to this decision, and with his acting ability being able to hold up among such a young cast I couldn’t help but put him may at the top of this “not-so-big” list of actors for Eobard Thawne.
Emilie de Ravin as Iris West
Emilie de Ravin is someone who I’ve watched on a couple of occasions, as an occasional Lost viewer. I also caught her in Remember Me earlier this year, in both she’s proved on par with this cast. I was indeed looking for someone around a similar age to Patrick Flueger, and Emilie de Ravin seemed to best pick with the obvious restrictions and resources I put on myself.
Jackson Brundage as Wally West
Jackson Brundage has only ever appeared in one program I’ve seen and that’s One Tree Hill. The one trait I wanted to find in a young actor that Wally West has always had is that likeability, and I think that Jackson has this particular trait. He's a kid that just by looking at him you want to take him home as your own.
Leighton Meester as Daphne Dean
self-indulgence that Leighton Meester has on Gossip Girl. I saw her and didn’t even need to search another name, she immediately stuck out as the person I wanted in this supporting role.
Gil Bellows as Jay Garrick
Gil Bellows has The Shawshank Redemption under his belt as a good career choice, but since then has faded to lesser known roles such as Unthinkable and FlashForward. To me he embodies that look of someone who is past their prime, or attempting to hold onto it, and that’s what I wanted in my Jay Garrick.
Between some of the following are filler scenes featuring the above and possibly unnamed characters, but ultimately the below is the important information in my overall idea for the film.
• A flashback of Barry Allen’s youth and his obsession with the original Flash and human speed is shown through various childhood and adolescent things (i.e. reading the news of the original Flash and playing with action figures, drag racing as a teenager, etc.)
• Barry Allen is now attending University at Central City University, where he is in class and listening to his teacher Professor Eobard Thawne.
• Eobard Thawne is a professor of chemistry at Central City University, where Barry Allen attends and is a member of his course. He often collides with Allen over the agenda of the original Flash.
• Eobard believes that humans can chemically enhance their stamina, strength and more importantly speed with the help of a chemical reaction commonly known as “The Flash”.
• Following one of their arguments, Thawne asks Allen to stay behind and clean up a demonstrated experiment. It begins to rain, to which Allen thinks nothing of it until a lightning bolt blasts down and a small explosion is heard, Thawne arrives and notices Allen unharmed.
• Allen finds himself late the next day, and begins to sprint, he soon realises that he is passing the surrounding cars as though they haven’t moved one bit.
• That afternoon he manages to save a young journalist by the name of Iris West who is reporting on and ultimately finds herself caught up in a bank robbery. He sprints away from her before she can thank him.
• Barry Allen experiences bleeding noses throughout the film as a result of his power usage.
• He bumps into Iris West again; who asks him is there’s anything she could do. Knowing she has resources and him being curious about the nose bleeds and his powers asks him she could find Jay Garrick, the first Flash who has since revealed himself and gone off grid – she finds him.
• Allen meets Garrick and is surprised that he’s now become a broken old man; Garrick hesitant at first, but later explains the origins of his powers and the end results as seen below.
• Accelerated use of his speed leads to accelerated growth of his cells, including cancer cells – as seen with Jay Garrick, would is now dying of an inoperable brain tumour.
• Similar to astronauts in space, high and long term exposure to their powers weakens their bones.
• Unlike the comics, Allen’s suit is given to him by a rundown Garrick, who informs him that the suit was something he intended to use before discovering the disadvantages of his powers – which he believes may he able to minimize and slowdown the body’s reaction to his powers.
• The following day Allen uses his speed once again when running late, Eobard manages to catch Allen’s use of his powers and grows curious and envious of Allen’s abilities.
• That afternoon, Thawne recreates a similar explosion to Allen’s, but is knocked unconscious. He wakes several days later and now finds himself with similar powers to Barry Allen.
• Barry Allen’s exposure to the chemical is slightly different to Thawne’s, which allows Allen to have a slight speed advantage over Thawne, but with a more costly aftermath to his body.
• Eobard Thawne pretends to be The Flash, creating a bad reaction to The Flash by the media, which results in a smaller confrontation between Anti-Flash and Flash in which Anti-Flash is humiliated.
• Following the above, Eobard discovers that because of his body’s cell’s growing and developing faster, he can expose himself to high levels of electricity which results in boosted powers for small amounts of time, unlike Allen’s exposure to lightning which was permanent.
• Eobard reveals his new and true identity, the Anti-Flash. Eobard Thawne is known as “Anti-Flash” opposed to his common name of Professor Zoom.
• On one of his escapades he manages to put one of Allen’s close friends and a character seen often throughout with Allen, Daphne Dean, in a coma.
• Iris tells Allen that her nephew Wally is a huge Flash fan, and Allen disappears and stages an appearance for Wally, in which he gives him his own treasured Flash doll.
• Eobard is seen in the distance learns of Iris and Barry. He soon kidnaps her and offers her release for a final showdown between him and The Flash.
• The Flash arrives and Eobard drops Iris, luckily Allen sweeps under her and catches her.
• The battle quickly ensues, but seems to be a blur to the onlookers. During the battle some feats performed by the two are building scaling and running on water. When Anti-Flash attempts to cross the ocean, Allen uses his speed forces to catch Anti-Flash and launch him into a nearby ship.
• Believing it’s over he turns back to the people drained and his nose showing signs of whatever he is suffering from worsening.
• The ship disappears in the ocean caused from the negative speed force of Thawne; he then appears behind Allen and reveals that his accelerated cells allow for him to recover from almost any injury.
• He quickly begins dominating Allen who seems to be defeated. He then prepares to send Allen into oblivion by creating a speed force around The Flash.
• During the final battle between Flash and Anti-Flash, Allen uses his speed to create an opposing force of Thawne’s negative speed force of sorts and disintegrates Thawne. His disintegration is similar to Cell’s in the Cell Games of Dragon Ball Z in terms of appearance.
• Barry Allen collapses and Iris can tell that the person behind the destroyed mask is Allen. He wakes up in the hospital, beside him Iris and Wally West. Wally attempts to give the doll back Barry, sighting him as his hero, but Allen tells him to keep it because he too is special.
• Following the credits an unseen man is watching the carnage on a small television, he laughs before placing him hand on a nearby side table. Ice began to ascend onto his surroundings implying that he can freeze things similar to Captain Cold. Captain Cold is indeed the upcoming villain, except he can freeze objects with his bare hands to complete zero, opposed to the more commonly known gun used to freeze things to complete zero used by him in the comics.
