Batman Beyond: The Legend Reborn
Movie begins with elderly Bruce Wayne announcing that he will be stepping down from being head of Wayne Enterprises, as well as his duties as the Dark Knight, due to poor health. Derek Powers, a corrupt and covetous businessman, smirks as he plots to take over the Enterprises. Later on, he in fact does take over, and he creates a gas that restricts the nerves from communicating with the rest of the body, and could possibly cause cancer and other illnesses. He had plans on using it as a weapon, but one of his employees, Warren McGinnis, discovers evidence of the gas and publicly shows it. An enraged Powers hired a henchman to murder McGinnis, which took place about 20 years after Wayne’s retirement.
After his father’s tragic death, 16-year-old Terry McGinnis moves in with his mother Mary, who was divorced from Warren for several years now, and his little brother Matt, who always felt irritated around Terry for some reason. One day, Terry was on his way home from school when a group of thugs, calling themselves the Jokerz, started attacking him. Bleeding from the mouth, Terry fends off the Jokerz best he could to protect his girlfriend, Dana. Nearby, Bruce Wayne sees what’s happening and manages to fight off the Jokerz in Terry’s defense, but resulting in Wayne having trouble walking. Terry manages to help Wayne back to his Manor, and discovers the Batcave as a result.
An idea comes across Terry, who asks Wayne for one of the Batsuits so he can avenge his father’s death. Wayne refused, but Terry manages to steal a suit anyways. The suit was more advanced than the original Batman costume, with a red bat across the chest, red wings, a more modern belt, and a jetpack.
Terry flies around town in the Batsuit, eventually locating the henchman who murdered his father, Jared. After defeating him in a brutal fist fight, Terry retracts blades from the wrist, and mutters “Any last words?”. Jared asked fearfully “Who are you?!”, to which Terry replies “I’m the new Batman!” before stabbing Jared in the chest and abdomen. Terry tosses Jared’s body off of the building they were on, and flies back to Bruce Wayne’s Manor. After a serious discussion, Wayne reluctantly agrees to let Terry keep the new Batsuit, thus allowing him to be the new Batman.
Meanwhile, at a lab at Wayne Enterprises, Derek Powers decides to test his experiment that would transfer DNA into a new body. For a specimen, he chooses Mr. Freeze/Victor Fries, one of the original Batman’s biggest villains. But before they can begin the experiment, Terry/Batman flies in to stop Powers, who was so enraged he orders Mr. Freeze to attack Terry. Mr. Freeze, not finding a real reason to attack Terry, refuses to do so and shoves Powers into a vat of mutagenic nerve gas. Both Terry and Freeze flee from the scene, and later on, Powers came out with a brand new body: glowing green skin that exposes his black skeleton. Powers refused to come out on the public eye, and takes on the new identity of “Blight”.
Later, Blight re-locates Mr. Freeze and hires another henchman to kill him. Freeze manages to freeze the both of them, but Blight manages to break through the ice and, after a brutally epic battle, kills Freeze and dumped his body into a dumpster. Later, Terry discovers the incident, and located and got Freeze’s ice gun, which he later gave to Bruce.
Determined to kill the new Batman for what happened to his body, Blight holds a meeting with the Jokerz gang for a plan on how to get rid of the new Caped Crusader. After the meeting, and according to plan, the Jokerz start robbing a bank and brutally murdering the policemen who were present (some members had knives, others pistols). Terry/Batman comes in at the nick of time before the Jokerz could get away, and after a very intense battle, the Jokerz run away penniless.
Outraged at the Jokerz’ failure, Blight decides to go one-on-one with Batman. He finds Terry flying around the city, and he shoots him with a tranquilizer. Batman crash lands on top of a building, with Blight shortly afterwards entering.
After Terry wakes up, Blight starts viciously attacking him, clawing at his face and chest in particular. Blight suddenly shows his true identity as Derek Powers, before changing back into his green skinned/black boned persona. Terry looks on in horror. Blight then unmasked Batman, revealing his true identity. Surprised that a teenager was donning the role of the new Caped Crusader, Blight menacingly threatens to bring harm to Terry’s family. Blight also tells him that he was the one who ordered his father to be killed. Furiously angry at Blight now, Terry starts lashing out at Blight, and an epic battle ensues. Terry slings Blight against a wall, knocking him unconscious. Terry then flies away, and after he’s long gone, Blight awakens and returns to his lab.
Terry enters the Batcave, where he meets with Bruce Wayne. After telling of his battle with Blight, Wayne was dismayed because he still believed that Terry was incapable of being the new guardian of Gotham City. However, Terry managed to convince Wayne that he was, in fact, able to defend the city from crime. With that said, he flies back home.
Later, Terry is at a party with his friends at high school, but they were not long into the show when the Jokerz break into the building and begin punching/kicking anyone in their path. Terry manages to hide Dana and the rest of his friends, then he goes head on with the Jokerz, who are eventually defeated after an intense battle. Enraged at the fact that his friends were now in danger, Terry vows to defeat Blight once and for all.
Terry manages to find Blight in his human form at a meeting at Wayne Enterprises. When Derek Powers was finished with his speech, Terry flew in at him and the two crashed right into the wall. The audience looked on in shock, wondering what the Batman’s doing attacking the head of Wayne Enterprises, before Powers revealed his new form of appearance. This made the audience even more frightened, and everyone ran out of the building.
Enraged at the disturbance at his meeting, Blight lashed savagely and electrocuting Terry, who manages to get the villain off of him. They continue the epic battle all the way on top of the main Wayne Enterprises building until Terry pushes Blight off, who in return held onto Terry’s leg. Terry tried to fly off, but Blight electrified the jetpack, causing it to be disabled. The two crash down onto an old shed that has apparently been abandoned for a long time. Blight electrocutes Batman/Terry until he couldn’t stand up. He then starts talking about how seizing power of Wayne Enterprises was only the beginning of his reign of terror, as he planned on taking over Gotham City and allowing crime to run loose. Infuriated enough, Terry mutters the strength he had, but Blight grabbed him by the leg and threw him aggressively, with his flying into a couple of walls and a few pillars causing a portion of the roof to crash on top of him.
With his costume showing much battle damage, Terry tried to stand up but he collapsed. Blight grabbed him by the neck and pinned him to the wall, again threatening to cause much damage to his family. But this time, he mentioned locating the Batcave and bombing it, with Bruce Wayne and all of the Batgear within it. This was the last straw for Terry, who shoved Blight into a wall and extended his wrist blades, ready for bloody battle. Blight shot bolts of lightning out, but Terry blocked them with his wrists and charged. He held one wrist’s worth of blades [which is three blades, to be exact] up to Blight’s neck while getting his legs done with the other arm. Blight, enraged at Terry’s managing to win, broke loose with severely blinding lightning bolts. Terry shot one of his Bat-a-rings straight into Blight’s head, going right into his skull and brain. When he saw that Blight was still alive, he shot three more Bat-a-rings. One went into his upper left thigh, another went into his right shoulder, and the third tore right through his heart, tearing right out of his body. Blight’s last words were “lost….I lost” before he succumbed to his critical injuries.
Satisfied that Blight’s reign of terror was cut short, Terry flew back home. When he entered the house, he realized he had some homework to take care of by the next day. [For anyone who doesn’t know why this is added, it shows that even though Terry is a super hero now, he’s still a high school student and has the same assignments as everyone else in his class.] The next day, he flies out looking for crime to fight, when he was confronted by Commissioner Barbara Gordon, the former Batgirl. Gordon shows Terry that there’s a new villain arising in the town, who goes by the name of “Inque”. Terry responded by saying he would get ready for battle.
On the streets, he confronts this new villain, and the two go one-on-one in the middle of Gotham City.
