Let's face it, a color issue with a MAJOR character will always boil people, me included.
Someone could liken this news to making Blade White, or making Luke Cage Asian.
Some could also say, "What rule is there to say that SOME characters have to be an ethnicity when it has nothing to do with what makes their character the way they are?"
For instance, Wilson Fisk in Daredevil, his being black did nothing to lesson the character of the Kingpin
Susan Storm has always been the blonde haired blue eyed beauty of the Fantastic Four, and her brother the fiery stud. Both white of course, however I see nothing that impedes their characters by making them black myself... necessarily. At least in the same way it would be for someone like Batman or Superman or Thor.
And sorry but Blade and Luke Cage are totally different animals where it comes to being a stickler for ethnicity, because both characters draw their being from their attitude and being from being black men, it's essential, in the same way making Gambit Cajun is essential.
NOW onto the casting
I, as a African American man, personally have no desire to see the Characters of Sue and Johnny changed skin wise, however IF it were to happen, i wouldn't pitch a fit, IF...mind you IF they casted it in the light of making sure it was two people who could do the roles justice, and NOT just be a "we need a black actor/actress in this role...choose them, they're ethnic, its good PR..." And bullshit like that...
Anyway, for the casting of the new F4 movie... I would choose Reed Richards for being either
Patrick Wilson
or Ewan McGreggor
Now for the infamous Susan Storm
for her I choose Paula Patton from Mission impossible 4, as well as Deja Vu. She is an actress of amazing repute, has impeccable range and personality, and in all honesty could pull off a better Susan Storm then most actresses out there.
For Johnny Storm, while the said and debated choice of Michael B. Jordan is i'll admit one to contemplate, he is a good actor and so forth, I don't quite see him being a Johnny Storm. I won't say he's incapable of it, just that he isn't my first thought.
to play the little brother of Susan Storm or the Susan i've chosen, I actually go with Conner Cruise.
or perhaps even Tristan Wildes, who I liked from his performances in the Secret Life of Bees
Now for Benjamin Grimm, my choice for this fellow would actually be Donny Wahlberg, who if you've seen him in BLUE BLOODS, you'll know the guy can play the ever loving blue eyed Thing, in terms of his serious and tragic side, with comedic moments of course.
Now for Doctor Doom, and hear me out on this, up in until now, my choice for Victor Von Doom was always Rufus Sewell, who if chosen would be superb.
But I feel, for the PERFECT Dr. Doom, for the one who will convey having grown up the orphaned gypsy bastard who through his brilliance and resolve took over his own country before he was even 21, the brilliant mind who is basically on par with Tony Stark but without the self centered Ego clouding his judgement....and wants the world ruled because in his understanding its the only way to save it, and he's the only one fitting for the job?
I choose Bendedict Cumberbatch
I'm sorry but after seeing Star Trek into Darkness, I just got a collaboration of the brilliance, presence, lack of moral conscience, and dignity I wanted to see in a Doctor Doom...
So there you have it, my Fantastic Four cast.
You can look at my other F4 casts here in Citadel of Doom for my choices for the Caucasian version of Susan Storm at your leisure.
You Owe me your Soul, soul eater out.
