I want everyone to know that I have seen the original He-man and the masters of the universe. However I believe that the 2002 version is completely superior to the original and if I was to direct the reboot film. I would go to the series as my source material. The characters were fleshed out and amazing to watch. I was hooked to this series and now without further ado.
The vision
Well eternia is a fantastic world of fantasy and science combined. This would be like a movie is more or less Star Wars meets Lord of the rings with a little conan thrown in. Avoid at all cost making it silly or campy. It's the best way to explain to those that have never seen the series before. I know that there are plenty of people that have. It has the cult following and enough fans to bring in some major money. Just don't open against Marvel lol. I picture entrnia as Asgard meets Themyserica. A beautiful planet filled with mystery and wonder. The world it's self is a character.
To direct this film.
This is a hard choice but you need a visionary mind that can also bring the best out of their actors.
This man would do a phenomenal job.
I know that He-man isn't Thor but the Thor film was amazing and Asgard felt like a real place. The scope was amazing and I can see him bringing Eternia and all the cast of characters to the big screen seemlessly.
The cast
Now with that being said. There are a lot of characters through out the Masters of The Universe lore. I think that the cast in the first film would be
King Randor
In the beginning he was captain Randor. The military leader and general of Eternia's army. He is also the leader of the group at the time known as the defenders. Not to be confused with the marvel team. So who would you pick to play King Randor who would eventually become King of Eternia? Well you pick someone who has played a king and can command the screen. Someone who also has played a father. Well I can only think of one man to play him and I choose.
Gerard Butler
He indeed has the acting chops to play the character that is for sure. He's played a king in 300 and a voiced a father from how to train your dragon. This would indeed be the man for the job. Plus the battle with Skeletor/Keldor would be freaking awesome to see Gerard Butler swinging the sword and defending his kingdom would be a sight to behold.
I know I know this a he-man film but my source material would come from the 2002 show. Believe me, He-man will be casted soon enough be patient my friends.
Queen Marlena
The faithful wife and loving mother of Prince Adam. She stands by her King's side at all costs. I would like to see an actress that would fit as Butler's wife. Someone you could buy as a Queen and who better than.
Lena Headey would be a phenomenal mother of Prince Adam and wife of Queen Randor. She was in 300 with Gerard Butler and she looks like a Queen. You could totally buy her as the Queen of Eternia.
Man At Arms
The man was King Randor's second in command and great warrior. He would eventually go on to help train and look after Prince Adam. He would also keep the secret of Prince Adam being He-man. Not only that but he would also be a great warrior in his own right. Who would I cast none other than this man.
After seeing him as Zordon in the power rangers film. I can totally see him playing Man At Arms. I know that he is used in alot of fan casts but it doesn't matter. Bryan Cranston is a fantastic actor and would do awesome in the role.
Now for our hero and protector of Eternia. Now one thing sold me about the 2002 series was that Adam and He-man were totally different characters I thought about this casting because when you cast a role. You pick the alter ego and then they bring out the hero in their performance. This is why I have chosen this guy.
Travis Fimmel as Prince Adam/He-Man.
In this film you get to see Adam as the egotistical, care free Prince of Eternia. He doesn't have a care in the world. He does train daily in case the forces of evil return. I can see him take this role and run with it. Plus if you're worried about him playing he-man. Think about it like this. Everyone can work out and put on muscle. I think the character of Prince Adam needs to be fully explored first. However he will become He-man before the end.
Now for Teela, the daughter of Man At Arms and Prince Adam's best friend. She's a pretty character, she's strong, fun and can hold her own in battle. She never backs down from a fight. I can only think of one person to play this character.
Chloe Grace Moretz as Teela..
Chloe has something about her in every movie that I have seen that makes me want to see more of her. She is in fact very believable as Teela for me. She can hold her own in an action role. After all go back and watch her as Hit Girl and tell me that she would not work in this role.
The guardian of castle Grey Skull and the one who bestows Adam with the sword. All the power that the elders had was put into this sword. She is wise and regal in her own right and with that being said my friends. What actress would I choose to play her. None other than.
Lynn Collins as The Sorceress as man would she be amazing in this role. This role is basically her character from John Carter except this movie won't be a flop lol.
Skeletor/Keldor
He's the villain of the series and well he needs to someone who can command his forces at will. Skeletor in the 2002 series was well eveil to the core. He is funny, cunning, a master swordsman and socerer. Who can you get to play such a character. You need someone who can act in make up without losing the actor in make up. Who would be the best choice and I think I know who.
Michael Sheen would indeed be awesome as Skeletor. He's played many villlains and he has a certain charm that would be wonderful to see shine through. He was amazing in underworld. I would definitely love to see it.
Evil Lynn
Skeletor's second in command and master soceress. She is dark mysterious and also pretty funny. She has a certain regalness to her as well. Who would I get to play her?
Anne Hathaway
she would be awesome as Evil Lyn. I can just see her casting spells and also her and Hugo Weaving on screen would be a sight to behold. Think about it for one second and I am sure you will agree.
As For the rest of the defenders and dark forces. Well let's see here and let me think.
Terry Crews as Ram Man
Dwayne Johnson as Stratos
Ryan Reynolds as MeckaNeck
Jack MacBrayer as the voice of Orko Eternian magician and court jester.
Tom Hardy as Beast Man
Doug Jones as MerMan
John McGinley as TrapJaw
Scott Adkins as Tri-Klops
Scott McNeil as Clawful
Gary Chalk as Whiplash
