Injustice: Godfall

My ideas for the sequel to Injustice: Gods Among Us

A little while ago, a sequel was announced to (arguably) the best superhero-centric fighting game since the original Marvel vs Capcom. Injustice: Gods Among Us.

While the first things I thought of were a better character roster, new arenas, and new features, my mind slowly wandered to something else. A more epic-scale story. One of my favorite parts of Mortal Kombat 9 was it's epic story, that spanned throughout the MK history. While I loved the storyline of Gods Among Us, I felt that it was lacking in scale. It felt like a smaller story compared to the scale it could have had. Which makes me wonder whether the story for the sequel will branch out further.

So I came up with my own storyline. And in the spirit of the god-centric title, I present to you, Injustice: Godfall.

CHARACTER ROSTER

Heroes

Batman
Superman
Green Lantern
The Flash
Wonder Woman
Aquaman
Nightwing
Constantine
Doctor Fate
Swamp Thing
Zatanna
Big Barda
Orion
Green Arrow
Martian Manhunter

Villains
Atrocitus
Sinestro
Darkseid
Star Sapphire
Ares
Steppenwolf
Circe
Braniac
Deathstroke
Professor Zoom
Captain Cold
Lex Luthor
Granny Goodness
Solomon Grundy
Doomsday

Arenas

Gotham City
Metropolis
Hall of Justice
Darkseid's Throne Room (ruined and desecrated the Hall of Justice)
Apokolips
The Source Wall
Oa
Atlantis
Themyscira
Suicide Swamp (where the Justice League Dark is hiding out)
Fortress of Solitude
Batcave

New Features
Tag Battles: These were awesome and MK9, and I feel like they could have been just as awesome in Injustice. Imagine playing as two of your favorite characters together, like the World's Finest, or Big Barda and Orion. Just like in MK9, characters paired together will have a transition attack that uses a portion of the Super Meter, ie. Superman tagging in Batman and having Batman toss a Batarang to stun the opponent.

Two-Seperate Super Meters: This would go hand in hand with the Tag Battles, serving the purpose of, when both meters are full, performing both Super Moves back to back.

DLC Character/Arena Packs-Just like with alternate costumes in the first Injustice, DLC packs would release characters and locations that fit within a certain theme together. Examples include:
Ethereal Watchers: The Spectre and the Phantom Stranger
Lightning Strikes: Shazam and Black Adam/Kahndaq
Mad Love: Harley Quinn and the Joker/Joker's Fun House
Arkham: Scarecrow, Bane, Killer Croc, etc./Arkham Asylum
Teen Titans: Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven, Robin, Wonder Girl/Titans Tower
Outlaws: Red Hood, Starfire, Arsenal

I haven't completely figured out how certain characters would fit overall into the storyline, or how story chapters and fights would occur, but I have thought of a rough synopsis. To avoid confusion, characters from the alternate dimension will be referred to by OEU (One Earth Universe), and NU (Normal Universe).

Storyline
With the manipulation of dimensions still recovering after OEU-Batman brings the NU-Justice League to his dimension, NU-Darkseid concocts a plan to cross over into the alternate dimension to seek the Anti-Life Equation, considering there is no Justice League there to stop him. He uses his Omega Beams to manipulate the bridge between the two dimensions further and crosses over with an invasion force of Parademons, and his second-in-command Steppenwolf, and his army's general Granny Goodness. His first action is to release OEU-Superman, convincing him to believe that the only way to truly protect humanity is through controlling them with the Anti-Life Equation. OEU-Superman then releases the rest of the One Earth Regime, and takes that dimension's government hostage. It's during this time that NU-Darkseid discovers that the alternate universe has no Darkseid, that OEU-Superman killed him to prevent him from invading Earth again.

Meanwhile, in the normal universe, the JL (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Aquaman) is fending off another attack, similar to the one at the beginning of Gods Among Us. After dispelling the attack, they are contacted by OEU-Batman, telling them that he needs their help. They cross over, and learn of what has occured. They resolve to help, since it is their Darkseid that is the problem. Unbeknowst to them, the NU-Orion has crossed over as well, seeking to defeat his father.

Darkseid goes to the Apokolips of the One Earth Universe and discovers that it is ruled by that universe's New Gods. Darkseid swiftly beats them and takes Metron's chair (which allows him universal travel). He then decides to use Metron's chair to breach the Source Wall (a wall at the end of existence which contains infinite power and knowledge) and use the power behind it to gain the Anti-Life Equation.

The NU-Justice League tracks down the One Earth Regime, while OEU-Batman tries to scramble together an army. The Justice League find the Regime, and NU-Batman and Superman beat OEU-Superman into submission, forcing him to reveal Darkseid's plan. But it's too late.

Darkseid, with the power from the chair and his own power, breaches the Source Wall and gains an ultimate power. He then returns to Apokolips and uses the Equation on the OEU-New Gods, bending them to his will. The NU-Justice League arrive with the help of a Boom Tube found in that universe's Hall of Justice, and NU-Batman tries to attack Darkseid, only to be wiped from existence.

NU-Justice League has no time to retalliate, because OEU-Batman brings them back through the Boom Tube, where he's accompanied by NU-Orion. Orion explains that Darkseid is now almost all-powerful, and can now only be defeated by someone equally as powerful. OEU-Batman then reveals that he's contacted as many heroes as he possibly could, telling them to write Freedom onto their heads to avoid being infected by the Anti-Life Equation. With no other options, OEU-Batman tells GL, WW, Aquaman, and Zatanna to amass an army to combat Darkseid.

NU-Wonder Woman goes to rally the Amazonians, having to defeat Circe and Ares to do so. NU-Aquaman goes to the Atlanteans, finding out that OEU-Aquaman was released due to a diplomatic dispute and now rules Atlantis alongside Black Manta. NU-Aquaman has to defeat them. NU-Green Lantern goes out into the vestiges of space to unite the OEU-Lantern Corps to combat Darkseid. Finally, Zatanna seeks out the One Earth Universe's Justice League Dark. OEU-Superman was unable to kill them due to their knowledge and manipulation of magic.

They return to OEU-Batman, each with an army following them, and OEU-Batman explains that he and NU-Orion have come up with a plan. Just before he can discuss this, Darkseid returns to Earth and releases the Anti-Life Equation, bending everyone except the heroes (and the army that they have amassed) to his will. Batman quickly explains that the NU-Justice League and Orion will lead the army into battle as a distraction, while NU-Superman and OEU-Batman breach the Source Wall, to gain as much power as Darkseid. Orion travels to Apokolips to seek out the OEU-New Gods, whom he frees from Darkseid's control after defeating them and Steppenwolf and Granny Goodness.

The OEU-New Gods return to Earth with NU-Orion, and a battle ensues. Darkseid is distracted and leaves Metron's chair unguarded, allowing OEU-Batman and NU-Superman to sneak in and steal it. They travel to the Source Wall and gain it's power, before returning back to Earth to defeat Darkseid. Together, they overthrow him and use the Life Equation to restore Earth, before restoring NU-Batman back into existence. The Regime is imprisoned once again, and, realizing that both are too dangerous for a normal prison, NU-Superman uses Darkseid and OEU-Superman to patch the breach in the Source Wall (Superman attaches Darkseid to the Source Wall several times before in the comics), before both he and OEU-Batman relequish the power that they gained from the Wall.

So, criticisms? Likes, dislikes, ideas, I'll accept and welcome all of them. Like I said, it's a VERY rough idea, so there's lots of room for improvement. Thanks for reading!

Sounds great. I literally just beat the game now (it's on sale on PSN). I loved it. My only complaint is the terrible costumes all around.

Thank you for all of the positive feedback, guys!

@GuardianAngel Yeah, a loooooootttttt of the costume designs were bad, although I really liked some, like regular Superman and Green Lantern. Although you should look at some of the concept art, because the costumes could've been much worse judging by those.

Whoa. I don't do games but you've really out some deep thoughts into this. I was wondering about an AvX game. Since I don't play these games how bout your take on a roster. A few Avengers heroes and villains as well as the same from X-Men. Stages and details as well. I love to see an article on this. Thumbs up

@ager Y'know, save for the ending, I really enjoyed AvX, so that might be something I do next. The X-Men and the Avengers have characters that would work so well in a fighting game. I'm surprised someone hasn't already thought of that.

I had only skimmed through it before, but now that I've fully read it, holy shit, dude! This is amazing! I'm still amazed at how DC has failed to nail a movie universe when there are so many great stories that can be told.

I like the roster. As much as I love Injustice, I felt kinda cheated that we got a Justice League game without Darkseid

amazingly great story, could be dragged out a little bit more no mention of use of Green Arrow or the corps which I feel is a lot to expand on. also the game should finish with EO Batman restoring everything & everyone that died back IMO, but GREAT content still.

@GuardianAngel Thanks! And that does bug me too, considering DC has the potential to tell some of their greatest stories on screen. How awesome would a New Gods movie be, or Crisis on Infinite Earths?

@MCott I know how you feel. I was really hoping that they would release him as a DLC character, but they gave us Scorpion. Which didn't necessarily bother me too much, although I would have rather had a DC character.

@DCGuy Thank you! I see what you mean in terms of length though, I could drag it out a bit longer. And the lack of GA is a problem; I knew I wanted him in the roster, I just couldn't figure out how to get him into the story.

@TheDarkKryptonian have you read Injustice year 2? that might be some help as to develop it a little more.

just out of my head hear but let's say that they also bring back the dead GA from the other universe and he is mad with the agony of death (like many characters are when they come back) so you play as him and beat a few of his friends like the other GA,GL and such until you play as Black Canary and beat him which leads into a cut scene where they embrace

keep at it tho great work here for real.

@DCGuy I haven't read it yet, what happens in it?

That's actually a really great idea! It could bring a lot of emotional depth into the story with the alternate universe heroes seeing Ollie back, and it could work him into the story!

@TheDarkKryptionian it shows how Supes got into a war with the guardians, it shows how luthor knew he was crazy, how siniestro was on his side & much more.
