I recently did a Captain America fan cast, but with an older set of actors for a more established Marvel cinematic universe so have decided to continue with this trend. With ‘Iron Man,’ a lot like ‘The First Avenger’ it had its faults as well as things to praise. The one thing that really stuck out to me though was how Tony was trying to keep Iron Man low-key at first, to me it makes sense for him to be flashing about and forcing Iron Man in people’s faces, but its nothing too serious to gripe at.
Well just got to mention, as I said in my Cap fan cast, I prefer the idea of Steve and Tony to be (look) round about the same age because of their brotherly relationship (Evans and Downey age difference is just something which keeps sticking out to me) so took this into account for my casting decisions. Also, for all you Downey lovers I haven’t cast him as Iron Man as I wanted to be different and these Marvel fan casts that I plan on doing are part of a different cinematic universe. I guess that’s the best way to put it…
Tony Stark/Iron Man: After being gravely injured and pressured under the threat of death to create a weapon of mass destruction, Tony Stark instead created a powered suit of armour to free himself and protect the world as the Invincible Iron Man.
Jon Hamm: He’s a great actor and would be perfect for when Downey quits the role. He’s given some really great performances, most notably in ‘Mad Men’ and ‘The Town,’ and he is also very versatile and good with comedy, playing arrogant douchebags well too as seen in ‘Bridesmaids.’
Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts: Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts was originally the executive assistant to Anthony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, with whom she has been romantically linked.
Amy Adams: She’s a terrific actress and is also pretty versatile; she’s good with comedy and drama and has played similar characters before, this alongside the fact that I enjoy her work more then Paltrow’s makes me think she’s a solid choice for the role.
Harold ‘Happy’ Hogan: Harold ‘Happy’ Hogan was a former champion boxer who ran into some bad luck, after some help from Tony Stark he got back on his feet and became his bodyguard and personal chauffuer.
Holt McCallany: I thought Favreau’s Happy was one of the worst parts of the ‘Iron Man’ films, sure he was funny for about 2 seconds, but he was more of a distraction than anything else. McCallany is a pretty good actor and fits the role a lot better, he’s built like a brick shit house, and he’s got experience at playing similar characters before.
James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes/War Machine: James Rhodes is one of Tony Stark’s closest friends and allies. After trouble struck Tony forcing him to abandon his armour, Rhodey took up his mantel only to later be granted with his own set of armour to become War Machine.
Roger Cross: I’ve heard his name thrown about for a lot of different comic book roles, but none of them seemed right to me. With War Machine, I think Cross has what it takes to deliver a credible take to the role in particular as he’s had good experience playing similar military based characters before.
General Nick Fury: Nick Fury served in WWII alongside Captain America. He's served as an agent of as well as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury is one of the greatest strategic minds alive, a master of espionage, and a born leader.
Samuel L. Jackson: I’ve yet to be impressed by him as Nick Fury, but he’s a great actor too and has that badass presence needed for the role, plus as the ‘Ultimate Marvel’ version was based of him it just makes sense for him to play the part.
Agent Maria Hill: Maria Hill was the director of SHIELD after Nick Fury went AWOL, and became the Deputy Director following Civil War until it was disbanded after the Secret Invasion. Maria now supervises the Avengers on behalf of Steve Rogers.
Evangeline Lilly: She’s a pretty good actress, is smoking hot and looks the part. I really don’t understand why she hasn’t been in a comic book movie yet, but as of right now this seems to be the most fitting role to me for her.
Agent Natasha Romanova/Black Widow: Former KGB agent Natasha Romanova, known as the Black Widow, is one of the greatest spies ever to live and is one of the best agents S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever had as well as being a long-time member of the Avengers .
Malin Akerman: To me Scarlett Johansson isn’t right for the role, and Akerman has proven herself capable of handling both action and drama well before, so I’d prefer to see her in the part.
Tem Borjigin Khan/The Mandarin: The Mandarin is a brilliant scientist and martial artist who forged ancient alien weaponry to use as his Ten Rings of Power; his primary weapons. He is a powerful adversary of Iron Man.
Ken Watanabe: I don’t think there is anyone better for the role. He’s a great actor and has a very powerful presence to him. I’ve enjoyed quite a few of his performance from his work in ‘The Last Samurai,’ ‘Inception’ and even his small role in ‘Batman Begins.’
Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger: Obadiah Stane was the first man to use the identity of the Iron Monger. The billionaire industrialist used the Iron Monger armour in a battle against his rival and arch-nemesis, Anthony Stark/Iron Man.
Leon Russom: He’s a pretty good actor, I haven’t seen him in much, but I’ve enjoyed his work on ‘Prison Break’ where he played a similar character.
Ezekial Stane/Iron Monger II: The son of Tony Stark’s late business rival and archenemy Obadiah Stane, sociopathic futurist, an opportunistic super-villain who exploits the modern corporate run, greed-driven society to further his own ends.
Cillian Murphy: He’s a pretty good actor and has played a few similar characters before, but it was because of his work in ‘Inception’ and ‘28 Days’ that I thought he’d be good here.
Thanks go to ‘SUP3R’ – I originally saw this choice on your fan cast.
Anton Vanko/the Crimson Dynamo: Anton Vanko was the son of a brilliant Russian scientist, after tragedy struck his family Anton, still a young boy, was forced into poverty and a life of crime; blaming the Stark family for their part in his misfortune. After Tony Stark’s revealed himself to be Iron Man, Anton forged his own suit of armour to exact his revenge for all that he had lost.
Daniel Craig: He’s a very talented actor, and definitely the best James Bond in a long, long time. He’s good at playing cold, ruthless and intelligent characters and he has a very intimidating presence to him so I think he could be good here.
John Morley/the Ghost: The Ghost is an industrial saboteur and mercenary who possesses an incredible stealth suit that grants him invisibility and intangibility, among other capabilities. He utilizes his skills to strike out at the greedy corporate culture of the modern day society.
Christian Camargo: From his work on ‘Dexter’ I think he could do this role justice, I haven’t seen him in much else, but with a creepy character like this, it’ll hardly be a stretch for him.
George Tarleton/MODOK: M.O.D.O.K. is an acronym for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. He has a plethora of psychic powers, which he used to take control of the terrorist organisation AIM.
Kiefer Sutherland: It was because of his role in ‘Phone Booth’ that I thought he’d be good here, he’s done other good work but he has a very intimidating and creepy voice that gives him a presence of sorts that would be needed for such a role.
So that’s my cast. Please leave your comments below!
