I know the Mortal Kombat movie is months and months away but I wanted to steer some attention in that direction and let CBM know my ultimate fancast for the confirmed role of Kabal in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot.
Kevin Tancharoen already confirmed via leaked script scenes that Kabal would not only appear in this movie but that he would have a scuffle with none other than Jax (Michael Jai White)
For someone to stand up to the likes of Michael Jai White, the role of Kabal should therefore be casted to someone who can physically stand up to MJW. But aside from having the physique he should also have the LOOK of pre-scarred Kabal since the scene may be about Kabal before he dons his classic mask/respirator.
Looking at Kabal's face in Mortal Kombat 9 the only actor that springs to mind is none other than Jason David Frank! That's right, the classic GREEN Ranger from MMPR for those who don't know- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! What better way to bring together Power Ranger fans and MK fans in a way that makes perfect sense!
The look is dead-on. He also has some acting chops. AND he's a physical beast. He competes in MMA, he's a 7th degree black belt AND trains his own dojo and has experience with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Not to mention, the director of the upcoming film himself- Kevin Tancharoen is a HUGE Green Ranger fan.
This is my fancast and I'd love to hear any/all constructive feedback on this. I know Kabal may not be a very popular MK character but he's always been one of my favorites and his inclusion finally into an MK movie is not only a complete surprise but also makes me excited to see who they cast in the role! Oh and lastly, I asked Jason David Frank on Facebook that IF he were offered the role, would he accept it. His answer? "yes"
