What’s up Comic Book Movie goers?
I’ve been a fan of the Howling Commandos for a long time now, and I would love if Marvel made a movie about it. This is how I would make it. It would feature Sgt. Fury and the Howlers fighting a much more extreme version of HYDRA.
The Howling Commandos
Plot
Sgt. Nick Fury, after the supposed loss of his brother, Jacob, at the hands of an unknown group of assailants, attempts to retire from his position as a US Army Ranger. However, an army Captain by the name of Sam Sawyer tells him that he had been chosen to be part of an elite group of Army Rangers, composed of Sawyer, Corporal Timothy Aloysius Cadwallader “Dum Dum” Dugan, PFC Gabriel “Gabe” Jones, Private Robert “Rebel” Ralston, Private Dino Manelli, Private Isadore “Izzy” Cohen, Private John “Junior” Juniper, and Private Percival “Pinky” Pinkerton. The team is put under intense physical training at the hands of Sawyer, his dead serious demeanor earning him the not-so-flattering nickname of “Happy Sam” by Junior.
Back in America, a session of Congress is interrupted by a group of suicide bombers from a terrorist group called HYDRA, who were posing as security officers. The bombs were not detected because they were made of an artificially created organic material. 11 Congressmen and Women are killed in the initial explosion, but once the bombs go off, a large amount of what appear to be small black spores are released. Whoever is caught in the blast radius of these “death spores” as they are later called, are immediately infected with a cancer like disease that spreads rapidly and kills them in minutes in an excruciatingly painful process, in which their vital organs begin to dissolve on the inside. A half hour later, an old bald man with an artificial robotic left eye named Wolfgang Von Strucker broadcasts a message worldwide saying that a terrorist group called HYDRA is responsible for the attack, and that he, being the leader, will enact more attacks on various locations across the world. The second after the broadcast ends, the stock rate of various major arms manufacturers for various militaries plummet to dangerously low levels. A minute later, an elite assassin who is later codenamed the Grim Reaper, named for the scythe-like blade that serves in place of his right hand, brutally assassinates the British Prime Minister after murdering all his guards, and the minute after that, a nuclear bomb is detonated from within Time Square in New York City, killing hundreds of thousands. The US declares a state of emergency; the President is transported to a secret bunker in the Rocky Mountains, various world leaders across the globe are put under 24 hour surveillance, and Strucker is declared the Most Dangerous Person in the World.
Sawyer’s team is then deployed into San Francisco, after about a hundred HYDRA paratroopers drop in, and start attacking pedestrians on the Golden Gate Bridge. With assistance from some local policemen and another unit, the team engages the HYDRA troops in what is later called The Battle of the Golden Gate Bridge, an explosive battle in which the US forces are victorious, but casualties are heavy, and the Golden Gate Bridge later collapses from the catastrophic damage. Enraged, the Secretary of Defense declares that the US Military is to take the offensive against HYDRA. He outlines a plan to take down a supposed rogue of the US Military who is working as an informant for HYDRA codenamed Scorpio. Sawyer, whose leg was slashed by the blade of the Grim Reaper during the Battle of The Golden Gate Bridge, thus leaving him unable to be deployed, appoints Fury to lead the team, nicknamed “The Howling Commandos” by fellow members of the Military for Rebel’s yelling or “howling” during the battle. Fury accepts, and Dum Dum Dugan is made his Second in Command.
Back at the US, HYDRA’s merciless onslaughts continue as nuclear bombs are dropped on Philadelphia, Columbus, and Tallahassee, and hundreds of paratroopers are dropped on Brooklyn. All Military Reserve members are called to service and troops are scattered all over the US in what is later called "The HYDRA War."
In Russia, Fury leads the Howlers on a mission to find and capture Scorpio who is apparently operating from the Russian countryside. They have a surprisingly easy time, but when they breach the cabin where Scorpio was supposedly hiding at, they find Fury’s brother Jake strapped to a chair. Jake tells Fury that Scorpio had been torturing him for information in the cabin, which explains why Jake’s body was never found when he was supposedly killed, and that Scorpio knew they were coming and escaped. Jake is freed and Fury gives him a rifle he found in the house and also gives him his knife, which Fury had when he thought Jake was killed, and thus kept it to remember him by. Their reunion is interrupted by Izzy and Dino, who were serving as sniper support, telling them that a large group of HYDRA transports are rolling into the area. Fury calls in two transports, one for Izzy and Dino and the other for them. Izzy and Dino are the first to be extracted, and as Fury, Gabe, Rebel, Dugan and Junior fight back the HYDRA forces, Jake takes control of a .50 cal machine gun on the outside of the cabin, and shoots down the helicopter coming to extract them. The group is overwhelmed by the HYDRA forces, and the Howlers realize that Jake has betrayed them. After they are pacified Jake tells them (mostly Nick) that he is in fact the rogue, and that he is Scorpio. Junior breaks loose and attacks Jake, but Jake soon stabs him in the chest and kills him, prompting him to sinisterly thank Nick for his knife back.
The HYDRA troops bring Fury and the rest of the Howlers to the HYDRA base where they see a massive missile being ready to be launched. They are brought before Strucker, who looks at them with disgust and says that the bomb is full of millions of death spores that will spread across thousands of miles. He says that he plans to drop it on the Rocky Mountains, where the President’s bunker is, so that even if he doesn’t hit the bunker, the President will have no chance to leave in time before the spores get to him. Furthermore, Strucker explains, without their President, the United States will become immersed in panic and chaos, effectively “killing” the United States all together. Fury spits in Strucker’s face, resulting in the Grim Reaper slashing Fury’s left eye (hint hint) and just before Strucker is about to kill him for his disrespect, the HYDRA base is suddenly shook by a bombers of the US Military, followed by a breach into the launch area by a large group of soldiers, led by Izzy and Dino and a newly recovered Happy Sam. While Izzy and Dino free the rest of the Howlers, Happy Sam leads the rest of the soldiers in a massive firefight with the HYDRA soldiers. The rest of the Howlers then join the fight, with Gabe, Pinky, and Rebel engaging and killing Grim Reaper.
Fury, using a piece of his shirt to cover his bleeding left eye, then engages Jake, who is escaping, and Fury asks him why he betrayed them and why he is working with HYDRA. Jake furiously responds that he was working to end HYDRA, and says that the reason that he worked so close with HYDRA was that he planned to kill Strucker himself so that he would become a hero in the eyes of the American people, stating that as his reason for taking on the Scorpio persona, because he felt that all his life he had been overshadowed by Nick, not only as a soldier, but, according to him, in life in general. Nick then counters Jake by telling him that his chance to become “his own man” was foiled the day he crossed him and the US. Nick tells him that he is no hero, and that he doesn’t deserve to be called an American. Jake then engages Fury with much animosity, stating that he still gets to kill his brother, defeated or no. The two have a rage-fueled brawl, and Nick eventually gets the upper hand on his brother, shattering his kneecap. Jake then writhes in his own self pity, saying “It’s not fair. It’s not fair.” Jake then screams it and slits his own throat before Nick can stop him.
Nick is then suddenly held at gunpoint in the back of the head by Strucker. But all of a sudden, Dugan tackles Strucker away from Fury, but Strucker, displaying remarkable strength and skill in his old age, seemingly easily overpowers Dugan and throws him over the rail of the platform on which they are standing. Fury also engages Strucker in a considerably less one-sided fight, but Strucker still manages to overpower Nick and escapes, Nick letting him do so in favor of rescuing Dugan, stating the motto of “Leave no man behind.”
Happy Sam then states, as the HYDRA troops are retreating, that he called in an airstrike to take care of the death spore bomb and that they need to get out of there quickly. The facility begins to shake apart as the airstrike begins and the team only barely manages to escape as the base is blown to pieces. The team is then commended for their efforts by the Secretary of Defense, with Sawyer being promoted to Colonel, Fury being promoted to Lieutenant and Dugan being promoted to Sergeant. The team is however disheartened to learn that Strucker survived and is still out there.
In a remote HYDRA base in the Amazon, Strucker arrives in a helicopter. He reports to a scientist, and he asks him for “the plans”. The scientist eagerly gives to Strucker a set of blueprints, and Strucker opens them to reveal the anatomy of a robotic weapon titled “Ultron”.
