New Avengers

New Avengers

As many know already, I like to make what if casting calls much like Wizard used to do (they should bring that back). This is part one of a three-part Avengers cast. Enjoy and input please...

As much as I like the Avengers, I have to say I enjoy the New Avengers much more. If they did a story, they should use the story from the first few issues with the prison break. Personally, I think it is one of the most well put together teams in the Marvel Universe. And if they were making a movie down the line, here's who I think should make the cut.

To start is the First Avenger, Captain America/Steve Rogers. There is ALOT of traffic going around for the main role of the iconic character. Of course he has to be young and I have had many ideas for the role but ultimately I think I have to go with Ryan McPartlin from TVs Chuck. I think he looks the part and he will already be donning tights in the upcoming comedy Super Capers as an interesting hero. Plus in Chuck, he is already a captain in the field of awesome.

Next up is the role of Iron Man/Tony Stark. It's Downey Jr...nuff said!

And of course there's Wolverine/James "Logan" Howlett which is obviously Hugh Jackman.

Now for the role of Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Spidey has always been one of my favorite characters and I am glad he finally has a place on an awesome team. I don't mind Tobey Maguire and there was talk of Gyllenhaal taking over the red and blue tights at one time (if he opted out of the franchise), but I think he would be a great fit. He has always been a decent actor and I think he can pull off the witty banter Spidey uses much better than Maguire. In the movies, they don't use it enough. He constantly talks smack while fighting his rogues gallery unless he's is getting the crap kicked out of him.

Next up is Spider-Woman/Jessica Drew. I figure since Fantastic Four in pretty much in the crapper with the original cast, Jessica Alba would be great as the Shield/Hydra agent. She's got the looks and the body for it.

Now for the Sentry/Robert Reynolds. There are alot of actors' names being tossed around for the role of Thor and the two I like are Alexander Skarsgard and Karl Urban. I think if neither of these men had the the hammer wielding god, they could both play a pretty convincing Sentry.

Finally is Luke Cage. I don't like the idea of Tyrese playing the role of cage simply because I just don't see it. I can see Michael Clarke Duncan playing the role too. Cage is a big man and so is Duncan. Plus, I can see him portraying a street tough type of guy. And after some comments about the role, I decided to change it to Common.

There you have it. Feel free to give me some criticism on who you like and don't like and soon to come...part two.

Alba has the looks and body..but thats it! Unless you want Spiderwoman mute for the duration of the movie i would cast a chick with slightly better acting chops! Duncan for Cage i dunno about..The rest are cool..although i have no idea who the dude you cast for Cap is!

darkclaw - 4/7/2009, 5:27 PM
That guy you chose for cap cant even fit into his baby gap sweat shirt, let alone the role of Captain America. I must say though I do like Gyllenhaal as an older better peter parker. I think Macguire is a puny wimp as it is, he was good in the first movie but thats it. Id honestly love to see Gyllenhaal replace him in spiderman 4.

i know he's done a dc movie but am i alone when i say aaron eckhart(Two Face/Harvey Dent for those who dont know him) should be captain america? a little older yes but i feel he would be a great cap, got the acting chops and the chin haha

I don't like your pick for Captain America. He just doesn't look right at all. Also. Michael Clarke Duncan like everyone said is way too beefy to be Luke Cage. But I do agree it shouldn't be Tyrese Gibson either. I think Jessica Alba is hot. But I don't think she is good for that role.(or most) there's a million hot chicks that could do that role better. Megan Fox. Jessica Biel. Shannon Elizabeth. Or Gina Gershon or Emmanuelle Vaugier if your going for the older look.

Darkclaw-you can say what you want about McPartlin but he looks like a the perfect poster boy. You have to remember Cap was a clean cut soldier. And thanks for the support for Gyllenhaal.

Grizzly-I like Eckhart but like you said, I think he's just too old.

Dellamorte-Do you have any suggestions for Cage? I never really liked him either but he's there. Also, I don't really dig the Sentry either. I don't even remember him. Regarding Mockingbird, I don't care for her but unfortunately she's there, but I have a feeling she won't be for long. Regarding Hawkeye, I think he will end up donning his original costume soon. I think after his fight with Bullseye, he will take the costume back and become the dead-eye we all know and love.

I think your alone with the Eckhart thing its been pushed so many times on this website. and so far everyone shoots it down, everytime. sorry dude.

Joslezio-I'm not too keen on Shannon Elizabeth either. She's not a strong actor and with Megan Fox, I think she's too young. How about Dushku (like Rorschach said) or Jolie if she gained some freakin weight back?
greenlanternsector2814
greenlanternsector2814 - 4/7/2009, 8:59 PM
what about Common for Luke Cage if he bulked up a little.
Joslezio85
Joslezio85 - 4/8/2009, 12:14 AM
I wasn't suggesting any of those actresses, I was simply stating that they were just as good for the role as Alba. Dushku, I had not thought of. I think that could work really well, actually. I don't know much about Common. So I don't know if he can act or anything. Nor do I know how old he is. But personally, I don't think it'd be believable. I was actually thinking someone along the lines of Taye Diggs. He's a good actor, and he's in extremely good physical shape. I think he could get the job done.

Dellamorte. your right. you did. i'll give you your freakin props. But why in the hell do you always seem angry and negative? and honestly, why's it matter who picked who? none of this will ever happen man. its for fun. so have fun. don't be so damn defensive.

My mistake dellamorte. I apologize greatly and will fall on my sword...

And I can see Taye Diggs as Cage. He is a good actor.

Quick question. So I know that Wolverine and Spiderman will not be appearing in the live-action Avengers film (as it stands now) due to different companies owning the character rights. Does this carry over to the Marvel produced animated films as well? Will we never see these two characters involved with the Avengers? Just curious.
Joslezio85
Joslezio85 - 4/8/2009, 9:48 PM
thats a good question. I know seperate companies own the movie rights. But, does that go for cartoon movies too? hmm...
TheMyth
TheMyth - 4/8/2009, 10:06 PM
Ecksmanfan: No. Marvel still owns the production and distribution rights of all of their characters in any medium except Live-Action.

Well that's good news. Well, now that I think of it...I just watched Hulk Vs., and guess what...Wolverine is in it. Answer my own question. Here's to hoping we'll see them in a future animated film.

I think Marvel should do some more animated flicks on Civil War, World War Hulk and Secret Invasion. But if they do that, they should break the movies up or make it at least two hours each to make it good.

i like all except Cap, Spidey and although the Sentry is a good casting call i despise the character..!

I'm not a big Sentry fan either but it was pretty cool when he ripped Carnage in half.

yeah, and when he ripped morgana le fays head off!
greenlanternsector2814
greenlanternsector2814 - 4/13/2009, 10:04 AM
That was cool too. Maybe they should use him as intimidation by ripping phone books in half for the good cop/bad cop routine.

mark valley for cap all the way
he'd be perfect

gyllenhall is awesome for spidey... mcguire isnt nearly funny enough

the others are pretty good too, except i'd pick someone different for spider-woman... not sure who though

@grizzly your metal is showing bro :P
greenlanternsector2814
greenlanternsector2814 - 4/14/2009, 7:42 AM
I like Valley's look but I think he's too old. Cap was in his twenties when he was frozen and even though he should be old as frick, I think the super soldier serum keeps him from growing old. If anything, he could be an actor in his thirties. That's why I picked McPartlin. He looks young, he's in shape (will need a little more bulking up) and he looks like a military poster boy.
BartonIsHawkeye88
BartonIsHawkeye88 - 4/14/2009, 8:51 PM
But Cap has been Unfrozen since the 60s lol
and he needs to look similar in age to Downey

it would be weird it thor and Downey Jr as Iron Man were being led by a guy who looks half their age.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 4/15/2009, 8:12 AM
Ive never heard of Valley but I just googled him and he looks perfect for the role of Cap, even better than my pick-Wentworth Miller!

You did much better on your "New Avenger 2" pics. I'm just not feeling these except for the already established ones. As for Thor, you already know that Urban is my personnal favorite but i feel that Skarsgard could be able to pull it off if they wanna go with the younger croud.

that's not a picture of Michael Clarke Duncan. Duncan is the guy who played Kingpin in Daredevil.

If you read the last couple sentences for Cage mikeycanfly, I mentioned it was Common.
