Nolan Co. Justice League

Justice League, can it start out set in reality??

There are some of you that aren’t happy about the recent news of a Justice League movie without The Dark Knight and Big Blue….There are some of you that think it’s a great idea (myself included) because DC and WB are hopefully realizing that there are other (Green Lantern) characters worthy of their time in the limelight. There are people that don’t care because they just want to see a Justice League movie made and then there is the last group that simply just don’t care….ok? Ok.

The biggest debate that I have seen however are people claiming that Christopher Nolan’s vision of Batman simply can’t be involved in the Justice League world. To some it would “Ruin the world that Nolan set up”….but wait….we haven’t even seen what’s about to happen in the third (and most likely) final installment of his franchise. Let’s take a look at some of Christopher Nolan’s quotes surrounding his Batman trilogy….

(In regards to whether he is thinking about Batman 3) “Yes and no I suppose would be the answer. We know we are aiming for 2012 (as a release date). That’s been talked about. We’re just working on the script, really. My brother (Jonah Nolan) has been hard at work on it for quite some time. It’s based on a story that myself and David Goyer have written.”

(On the status of Batman 3) “My brother (The Prestige and The Dark Knight co-writer Jonathan Nolan) is writing a script for me and we’ll wait to see how it turns out…. He’s struggling to put it together into the epic story that you want it to be…Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story, and in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story.”
“My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling. And it harkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That’s what we do.”

(On Superman: The Man of Steel) “What it is, while David Goyer and myself were putting together the story for another Batman film a few years ago, you know thrashing out where we might move on from the Dark Knight, we got stuck. We were just sitting there idly chatting and he said ”by the way, I think I know how you approach Superman and he told me his take on it. I thought it was really tremendous. It was the first time I’ve been able to conceive of how you’d address Superman in a modern context I thought it was a really exciting idea.”

“What you have to remember about Batman and Superman is that what makes them the best superhero characters there are, the most beloved after all this time, is the essence of who they were when they were created, when they were first developed. You can’t move too far away from that.”

Ok, so enough quotes….It’s obvious that Christopher Nolan has been thinking about these characters a lot even though he likes to focus on one movie at a time. He also likes to keep his characters based in A “real world”. The only difference is that these characters are extraordinary or regular people in extraordinary situations (Inception, which was AMAZING, Memento, which was AMAZING, Batman, AMAZING and on and on). It just seems to me that Christopher Nolan always knows more than what he is saying to the public and that JUST MAYBE he wants to keep EVERYTHING a surprise….We can speculate all we want but we ALL might be surprised as to what he has planned. WB trusts him with their two top grossing characters, why not give him the reins to the biggest team up in movie history (sorry Avengers you are awesome too). A BASED (not set) in reality Justice League movie done in Christopher Nolan fashion would be amazing….No he’s not god but Christopher Nolan has helped make it possible for Comic Book Movies to be taken seriously, as they should be….well as long as they’re not supposed to be funny that is….I want to see a funny/witty Flash (if it’s Wally West), I want to see a smart ass, cocky know it all Green Arrow and yeah, I want to see Martian Manhunter being the most serious out of the bunch. I want to see it all and I know that if Nolan and Co. is in charge then will can get a great story.

As I was re-reading these quotes it really donned on me more than ever that Batman (which I personally prefer away from the “Super Hero” world) could work in a “Super Hero” world. I wrote an article awhile ago that explains this theory of mine….here is what I had to say.

(For the end of Batman 3) “Maybe at the end of the movie we see all of the villains, past and present, getting ready to attack Batman and maybe that would be the time for him to get some help….”Man of Steel”….hmmm??

OR end the movie with Batman at the Bat Computer (YES BATCAVE PLEASE-“l thought this might be a good opportunity for improving the foundations in the southeast corner”). Batman looks up on the screen as you hear a news reporter say, “Sources say this is no hoax, the image you are about to see is real….then another news reporter says.. “Reports JUST in of an Unidentified Flying….Man?? Show the Bat Computer screen with a blurred dash of red and blue in the sky and then end the movie.”

We live in the real world (do we? Matrix? No Matrix, Inception? No Inception) and who is to say that The Man of Steel isn’t approached the very same way as aliens finally making contact?? Also keep in mind that Smallville takes TONS of liberties with the Superman mythos but it’s entering it’s 10th and final season and if that story can last, then why can’t people get behind Nolan Co. Batman in a Justice League world? You end Batman 3 like I said above and with Green Lantern coming out before Batman 3 and Superman: The Man of Steel it's easy to drop SUBTLE hints on the big two or another character like The Flash....

Also, I just read CornDogBurglers article on Nolan, check it out, it's really good!

Ok, now it’s time to agree or disagree….BEGIN….

I think NOLAN doesn't own the DC UNIVERSE or BATMAN...

BATMAN is part of the DC UNIVERSE end of lol.

Yes I agree BATMAN would fit into the JLA very well, hell he is JUSTICE LEAGUE!

Yes, I think Nolans Batman would fit nicely. Also if I'm not mistaken In Batman Begins they mention Metropolis, I'm not really sure where, but they do mention Metropolis.

i agree. people don't realize anyone can say whatever they want. Nolan said he would never do a superman movie - look at him now. He always keeps everything so secret why would he be telling us everything now? in fact, im Chris Nolan! yep, im actually Chris Nolan posting this to all of you fans! thank you for loving my movies!

i said it - so it must be true.

@Leee777 and @naterator....thank you!

I love Batman and I love the feel of a hero in the "real world" taking down criminals AND I love Super Heroes....I think it can be done....I want to see Batman doing what he does best, being the worlds greatest detective while kicking major a$$ along side these "superpowered" heroes....

I think the simplest solution would be to allow Smallville to add Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern to that continuity then make the Justice League from that continuity. The comics have different continuities I don't know why live action versions can't.

I've been saying it all the time Nolan batman would be great in a jla movie. the line up could be lke this batman( could talk about superman),green lantern( could talk about a man dress as a bat or introduce the manhunters), superman( talks about a man who runs fast or about Bruce Wayne),flash( talks about a flying women),wonderwomen( talks about a guy in the water), and then introduce manhunter also aquaman in a jla movie because they don't need origin movie.
