This is MetaWar!
MetaWar is an original work of Fiction. A few names may seem familiar but all the Characters, Settings and Events are original work. This is a SuperHero story but one where the conventions are bent to fit the normal world. Everything from names to masks to costumes is done in a realistic workable way.
It was my intention to bring the excitement and adventure of the comics to life while still presenting something that could happen. Comics exist just as they do in the normal world so their influence is very evident. This story is the result of three years of effort. I have explored the story from a few different angles and this Revision IV is the latest.

The Story so far...
Seemingly overnight a large number of a new breed of humans emerged. Something triggered what might be an evolutionary event and 1,500 people were affected. All became stronger and faster but some became more. Two months after the unnoticed event eight of what would be called MetaHumans meet by chance.
Four were trying to rob a major Bank and the other four came together to stop them. Pulsar, Thor, Psyche and Speed would become known as Justice. They find some land in Wyoming they can buy up and Olympus is founded. The Four go on national TV and issue a call for MetaHumans to use their powers for constructive purposes. All around the world Metas begin to appear. Many cause death and chaos but a few try to do something more positive.
Pulsar and the Olympians are fairly successful at first. They use the power of their Telepaths to hunt serial killers across the country. They kill a large number of them but the strain of reading those kinds of minds results in a crisis. Everything has it's cost you see. MetaHumans flock to Olympus as other people begin to recruit. A Meta calling himself Loki appears. He is a powerful Teleporter and the idea of conquering sounds reasonable to him.
A group of Metas take over Philadelphia by force. With telepathy to set things up they are soon in complete control. The United States sends it's mighty military to evict the Metas but after a massive battle they are defeated. The US President agrees to the terms that Olympus requires for their assistance. Olympus is now a Sovereign Nation that annexes adjacent federal lands to gain some size.
Sadly the battle goes badly. A Meta loses control over her power. The entire City along with tens of thousands of people are consumed in her implosion.
Along the way we meet a wide variety of different characters. They are a random selection of people mostly in their 20s and 30s who suddenly are confronted with the question that has driven comics for years: What will you do with your power? The story centers on those of Olympus who have chosen to do something good with them.
A couple of love stories are told along the way. Nova is a powerful female Meta. Her flames are so strong she is simply dangerous to be around. Dangerous except for the man who's defensive screens are always up. The same man who can absorb and manipulate any sort of active energy. The leader of Olympus himself Pulsar. He and Nova become friends and then something more in a rather explosive romance.
One of the original Four is blond, big, and superstrong. He got dubbed Thor for those obvious reasons. The Hammer was a gift a couple of months later but he uses other weapons as well. The former major league baseball player becomes a trainer to new Metas who come to Olympus with great strength or agility. One of them is a young woman who sets her sights on Thor almost immediately. Her choice of the name Lady Sif does not set well with him at all. Eventually it all works out but there are some ups and downs before they finally connect.
After one full year of existence, on Day 357, Olympus holds a party. Not just any party. The MetaHumans of Olympus are now the Stars of the planet Earth. Everybody wants to perform, attend, or otherwise be involved. The residents of the new Nation get a chance to choose who they wish to see and who they wish to meet during the 18 hour long event.
Olympus stands strong but the challenges before them are impossible to imagine. Others have now had enough time to gather. Plans have been made and put into motion. In the next year the conflict goes global. Cities will burn. Nations will fall. The MetaHumans will continue to change more and more about life as we used to know it.

From MetaWar: Changes....
The Mountain.
That is what we call it. Officially it is Mount Olympus II.
Seems silly to describe it. You have seen pictures. Everyone has. It reaches 8,008 feet into the sky. The first 1,000 or so is fairly normal looking, hills turning into something bigger. The next 3,000 are fairly sharp slopes.
From there it just goes up and up and up.
You can breathe on the top but it is kinda thin.
What can I say? Right after we acquired the final section of land that completed the Olympus you know today Geo and his team sent me a proposal for a 'little mountain'. We had an area nearly 100 miles east/west and 80 miles north/south so there was room for a lot of things.
He wanted to take the southeastern corner and turn it into a 'small set of hills and a moderate mountain'. I swear that is what his proposal said. I have that page framed and on my office wall as proof.
We had learned by then that a lot of rock, or water, could shield people from the Scanner Metas. And as much as I hated to admit it we had to keep under cover. All of us. The Mountain was a perfect solution.
The actual Mount Olympus stands 8,800 feet.
It was not that big in the plans. I would have noticed 8,008 feet.
I woke up one morning at a comfortable 10 am. Walked out onto my patio and there it was. Frozen, I stood and looked for the longest time. My tea arrived and I was still looking.
Wow. No. WOW!
I will admit for a few moments I considered how I could inflict the maximum amount of pain on Geo without actually killing him. But the scope of the creation just washed those thoughts away. How could I be angry? How could I deny this achievement?
And something more.
How long has it been since the Earth itself has been altered this radically? Changes happen all the time. But this... wow.
What were we really? Humans with superpowers? Or gods?
Maybe we were not the first of our kind. Perhaps long ago there were others. They say myths are always based at least on grains of truth. Perhaps some of those grains were MetaHumans.
