There have been many rumors, more fan-castings, and some confirmations here-&-there concerning DC’s Cinematic Universe (DCCU); shared or otherwise. What I present isn’t much of a new theory/proposal, but yet my fully disclosed opinion on who I think should adopt the role of DC’s Captain Marvel BKA Shazam!
To oppose Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s intimidating Black Adam… former Red-Blue Blur of Smallville, Tom Welling!
My Reasoning:
Let’s put the
DOOM star (Johnson)[nods to Doomsday] who could’ve played Superman himself for all intent & purposes, against an actor that has played the young man of steel, Tom Welling; who can match the muscle and bring the boyish charm easily. Standing at 6’3”, Welling would go head to head with Johnson who stands just an inch taller at 6’4”. So we’re all on the same page, I’m a fan of the Captain Marvel (Shazam) that, instead of being a complete different/split personality from Billy Batson, is in fact just a full-adult version of Billy (minus the lifetime-gained experience). The version where, in all his heroics, you see the humorous battle between Captain Marvel’s juvenescent attitude and the Wisdom of Solomon which he also possesses. Now I’m not saying I want to see him goofy & bumbling on the big screen, but I do want to see in the acting that essentially it is the same character (a boy magically transformed), if for anything at least in moments. I believe Tom Welling is our guy.
Now, I do have a plan B… someone else who I also think could also oppose the casted Black Adam’s stance as villain or anti-hero. From a bit more of a fresher angle, why not put
Hercules (Johnson) against…
The Legend of Hercules star,
Kellan Lutz. Known best his role as Emmett Cullen in
The Twilight Saga, a vampire who almost plays the role of the no-BS-taking, thinks-himself-funny, older-brother-type; recently seen in the
Expendables 3, we’ve already spotted this actor display his god-like presence as Poseidon in
Immortals, and if you saw
Arena then you know the fighting scenes with this guy would be awesome! Standing at 6’1”, here’s some concept art…
Sorry the picture isn’t great, but I wanted to use a different base model, and again, he’s the 2
nd choice…
