Hello CBMers!!!
For the uninitiated, Watchtower Tales is a fan fic serial about a group of Justice Leaguers I refer to as the Second Shift. The team consists of Zatanna, Hawkman, Atom, and Black Lightning. Each story often featuring another character joining the group for some general hijinks. Lately the group has put into motion a series of events creating a more detailed narrative now. The team is currently traveling through time in order to stop an evil plot that could see a group of villains building a super weapon with artifacts from throughout history.
Near Atlantis, Atom and Aquaman make their way back to the throne room.
ATOM:
"Arthur...I'm...I'm not sure what was in that sea weed, but I could've sworn we just past a pineapple. A pineapple. Under the sea..."
AQUAMAN:
Sighs. "Ray! Damn the jokes for a few seconds! Someone tried to destroy Atlantis with a boom tube bomb."
ATOM:
"A what?"
AQUAMAN:
"A boom tube bomb."
ATOM:
"Come again?"
AQUAMAN:
"Boom tube bomb."
ATOM:
"One more time..."
AQUAMAN:
"A...Boom. Tube. Bomb."
ATOM:
"Ok. For the record, it was a..."
AQUAMAN:
"Boom tube bubble. Damn. I meant bomb!"
Laughs along with Atom. "Maybe you're right. Them fish must've gotten that sea weed from the trench. Anyway, we need to get to my teleporter and get back to the Watchtower. Let them know what happened here. It could possibly be connected to the time traveling problem. Some body obviously wanted Atlantis out of the way."
ATOM:
"Why would anyone want that? Is it because of the great health care here?"
AQUAMAN:
"Don't forget our low unemployment rates. Now you got me doing it! More likely, it probably has to do with Atlantis' connection to magic."
Atom and Aquaman enter the lavish and spacious throne room of Altantis' palace. The two walk toward a teleportation dock in the corner.
ATOM:
"How's Mera, by the way? Haven't seen her in awhile."
AQUAMAN:
"Right? I mean, I agreed to marry her. Not get attached at the hip. She was always there. In my business twenty four, seven. Other than that, she's fine. Really starting to make a name for herself. You should've seen how happy she was when they asked her to be apart of the Bombshells thing."
Atom goes to the control panel of the teleportation dock, as Aquaman stands atop the bay.
AQUAMAN:
"So, who's up there on monitor duty?"
ATOM:
"Oh, it's Batman I think. And he's in a particularly brooding mood I'm sure. After all, this whole time travel mess was kind of the second shift's fault. Happened when we were doing a prisoner transfer with Dr. Psycho and Bane."
Atom finishes entering the teleport command at the control panel and then stands besides Aquaman atop the bay.
AQUAMAN:
"Let me guess. Cawkman?"
ATOM:
"Cawkman!"
Inside the dark mysterious headquarters of the evil Turmoil team. Joker sits at the computer, Vandal Savage, Cheetah, and Bane are seated around a table. On the table sits the super weapon that the Turmoil team has constructed from the enchanted artifacts they gained from history.
BANE:
"When will we be able to use this master weapon Vandal?"
VANDAL SAVAGE:
"It takes a few hours to fully charge. This was from a time far before DSL my friends. Thankfully, we have taken care of those who could prevent us from fully using it. As Bane has sent those who followed him to Black Manta in ancient Japan, as has Cheetah..."
CHEETAH:
"Uh...yeah. About that. Well...I sort of drop the ball on that. Stuff went down, out of control. Plus, you know, I got cramps. And yeah..."
BANE:
"Perhaps! Are plan is in turmoil?"
Looks around optimistically, to see if anyone acknowledges. "You see...our team name..."
VANDAL SAVAGE:
"It's of minor consequence. The weapon will be ready before they could do anything. Besides, that's the reason the clown is here."
Joker turns around slowly in his chair to face the group.
JOKER:
"Can any of you tell me...is...is Becky G hot? I don't get it. YouTube recommendations...I mean, singing in the shower? With a shirt on? What do you think Bane? Hot or not?"
BANE:
"If she doesn't look like Talia, then I do not..."
JOKER:
"Enough! With! The! Talia! Crap! Sheesh!! She's got her head so far up Bat's cod piece, I hardly find that funny. Me! The Joker! Anyway, how did you guys even travel through time? I got a cool idea."
CHEETAH:
"In the next room there's all that boom tube tech that Luthor re engineered from Darkseid 's last invasion. What's your idea?"
JOKER:
"Ok. Just imagine, we go back to the mid eighties and make a different version of Howard the Duck. Huh? We use the script of Oscar winning film, Gladiator! Hahaha!!!"
Back in second century Japan, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle sit outside the window of the Blue Samurai's temple.
BLUE BEETLE:
"This is bad Gold. They've got half the team captured. We got to get a message to the Watchtower."
BOOSTER GOLD:
"You're right. But real quick, what would you say to going in on this kickstarter for a board game I'm designing? We can call it, Blue and Gold."
Abruptly, behind the duo, Black Manta stands with a sword aimed at them.
BLACK MANTA:
"Sorry dudes. Game over."
Back on the Watchtower, the teleportation dock lights up, and Aquaman and Atom walk from it toward the main observation room. Inside the room they find Batman standing near the large Roundtable of Justice. Black Lightning and Shazam are sitting at the table.
BATMAN:
"Atom. Aquaman. What was the situation with the odd device in Atlantis?"
ATOM:
"Turned out to be a..."
Snickers. "A...boom tube bomb."
Snickers. "I believe someone wanted Atlantis destroyed, because of its connection to magic."
AQUAMAN:
Leers at Atom incredulously. "Yes. How did the others do? Were they able to prevent them from collecting the artifacts?"
BATMAN:
"No. BL and Shazam were surprised by an attack from Teth Adam in works with Cheetah. Zatanna, Hawkman, and Constantine have failed to answer there communication devices. We're afraid they may have been captured. We're about to check in with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold."
Batman walks over to the large screen of the Watchtower's super computer. Back in ancient Japan, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are being tied to the wall next to the unconscious Zatanna, Hawkman, and John Constantine. A loud noise rings from a device on Booster Gold's belt.
BLACK MANTA:
"What's that bro? You expecting an important call? The results are in, huh?"
BOOSTER GOLD:
"Oh! That's nothing. Probably just a twitter message. Oh, maybe my blue and gold hash tag is trending."
BLACK MANTA:
Grabs the handheld device to see Batman on the screen. "Well, well. If it isn't ole pointy ears. How you been Batman? Guess, you had oughta to come and get your friends here. Especially before Booster blood starts trending."
Back in the Watchtower, the assembled heroes watch as the large screen goes to static.
BATMAN:
"Excellent. Now we know where we have to go. I want to send you guys there. I'm going to go visit Dr. Psycho, and try to find out where the other members of this coalition are hiding. Aquaman, would you lead them?"
BLACK LIGHTNING:
"Hold on a damn minute. Why does Aquaman get to be leader?"
SHAZAM:
"Yeah! I'm the strongest!"
BLACK LIGHTNING:
"We all know why you can't Shazam! You don't even have a driver license!"
ATOM:
"Maybe, we should choose the leader based on degrees. Who has the most."
BLACK LIGHTNING:
"Shut up, Atom! Besides I've got the most celebrated degree here."
ATOM:
"Oh yeah? Where from?"
BLACK LIGHTNING:
"Where from? The school of hard knocks! That's where from!"
BATMAN:
"Stop bickering! Get going! Aquaman will be the tactical leader!"
SHAZAM:
"I bet you thought no one could've made you miss Robin any more. Ha."
The team gets up, and begin to make their way to the teleportation dock.
