I’m sure we can all agree that the proposed Wonder woman tv pilot was a total failure, even if you have not seen the leaked pilot online you can imagine how detrimental it was to the character. So to make it up for that atrocity I say lets give the first lady of superhero comics her very own animated series. For years now Batman and Superman have pretty much gotten all the attention at DC/WB in terms of media, they’ve had plenty of movies, cartoons and many more media related material and Wonder-woman has had nothing but a few cameos and even in the Justice League cartoon she seemed like nothing more than a love interest for Batman.
Wonder-woman may stand for love and peace but she is not to be pushed aside as just a love interest or just some kind of man hating warrior chick. A lot of people compare her to Xena the warrior princess, I would agree but also disagree, first and foremost she is a hero and a hero should stand for more than just the warrior mentality, to me she’s the type of person that would much rather talk a situation out first before throwing her fist. I know that might sound boring, I mean she is a superhero and we want to see her showcase her powers, but a good story does not always have to have action for it to succeed, not to say that I would not have action in this show cause I would ,but not every second of every minute.
First I’d have it 2d animation since WB/DC and cartoon network seems to be moving along with the CG cartoons, we have a CG Green Lantern animated series on the way and a CG Batman cartoon on the way, I say with Wonderwoman lets stick to traditional animation something similar to young justice. As for her costumes I would do something that’s never really been done in a superhero cartoon or has rarely been done, I would have it so that WW has multiple costumes in the show, she would dress for the occasion instead of having one set costume.
When it’s time to fight a giant ancient beast she can put on the warrior costume or when it’s just standard superhero work she can have on the typical super heroine costume, it could end up being a nice mix.
My second reason for needing a Wonder-woman cartoon is to kick start some good female oriented superhero shows, most shows in general live action or animation usually focuses on the male point of view, this could help switch the formula up a great deal, Wonder-woman can be a great role model for girls or just people in general all you have to do is just treat the character with respect and don’t focus on her sex appeal. I liked the animated movie that DC/WB put out a couple of years back, but some things did bother me like the whole line that Steve Trevor said about her well endowed chest among other disjointed actions, but overall it was a decent movie.
This could also be a good way to expand her rogue’s gallery, about a handful of people can name Wonder-woman’s villains and that’s not good considering she is the premier super heroine, she has been around for a very long time next to bats and supes, she needs some new adversaries and memorable ones not just tacked on so we go “hey look everyone we gave WW some new villains but they are not really impactful or worth using as reoccurring threats, but hey at least she has more 1 dimensional characters to fight.”
That brings me to final point, treat her like a great character, don’t just writer her off as a female superhero trying to prove her worth among the male heroes, Diana is already a great hero who demands respect, so approach the show that way, she is Iconic so don’t be afraid to treat the show, the character and the audience In a respectful manner.
As for writers, producers and voice actors I have a few in mind.
Producer- Bruce Timm I mean do I really need to explain why? The man has done wonders for DC in terms of animated projects, most of us have grown up on those animated tv shows.
Writers- Greg Rucka, Gail Simone,
Voice Actors- Lynda Carter(I know she is a obvious choice but why not?),Keri Russell, Susan Eisenberg.
