Robbie Amell Teases New Firestorm Power

The Flash season one gave Firestorm the power of flight and flame but comic book fans know there's one important ability Firestorm has that the show did not tackle. However, Robbie Amell has teased that the show will introduce this power in season 2.

Robbie Amell Teases New Firestorm Power

Speaking to ScreenRant to promote his teen dramedy film, The Duff, actor Robbie Amell teased that the season finale of The Flash was originally going to introduce Firestorm's ability to rearrange the subatomic structure of inorganic material - i.e.. he can transform lead into gold, etc.  According to Amell, there was a scene filmed for the season finale that showcased this power but it was ultimately cut. Said Amell -

"The sad thing is there was a moment in the finale that had to be cut out – just because it was such a massive episode and it didn't actually have anything to do with plot – where they introduced matter manipulation. There’s a scene where Danielle [Panabaker]’s character is checking my temperature and giving me the once-over. I call Victor in the room and we merge, and I turn her thermometer into a daffodil. It was just like a really nice, sweet way of showing… because she’s asking if we’re going to be OK, and I’m like, 'Actually, we’re getting pretty good at this whole Firestorm thing.' And we merge without even missing a beat and turn that into a flower. It was a nice moment, but ultimately it just didn't hold any bearing on the plot."

Robbie Amell goes on to state that he's confident that this ability will be reintroduced in future episodes of The Flash or maybe even on Legends of Tomorrow.

"Matter manipulation I’m sure will be reintroduced, or maybe it will be available on the DVD director’s cut of the episode. But there’s so much they can do with this character. My biggest fear with the character was that he was too powerful. I think that sometimes that can be an issue. I feel like that’s the only problem I ever have with the Superman comic book, is other than kryptonite, how do you stop this guy? But they’ve done an unbelievable job."

It's interesting that Firestorm was able to transform a thermometer into a flower.  In the comics, he's incapable of transmuting things into organic substances without extreme, possibly lethal repercussions.  Perhaps producers realized they were giving Firestorm an ability that he doesn't actually posses and that was the actual cause for the scene being cut?

I don't really like Firestorm that much. Robbie Amell being a scientist is a joke. I like the other Firestorm guy. The old one. I find him more interesting.

Robbie Amell was not really a scientist in the show, he was an engineer.

Firestorm can't transmute anything biological or anything into biological matter. It's a very important principle to the character that stops him from being overpowered. I hope this isn't true otherwise as long as Firestorm is present there is no danger at all. Just transmute Vandal Savage into a cactus.

Firestorm is a good character Flash was great in its season. Arrow was not very good this season with its writing. I hope they get better writers next time. Can't wait for flash season 2

I hope S2 definitely expand's Firestorm's abilities. This is a nice gradual progression between the characters and now that they both(Ronnie and Stein) seem like they're capable enough to even be around separately, I'm sure they've grasped their powers enough where they can manipulate matter. I'd also like to see, in due time, Firestorm being able to walk through solid objects and absorb other kind of energy....if Plastique were alive, that would've been a cool moment for Firestorm to absorb an explosion caused by her.

@rebellion

"how about a costume that doesn't suck?"

People need to realize that what Firestorm wears in S1 is NOT a costume. It's just a device over regular clothes. That is not a costume. He just needs a costume, period. Not one that "doesn't suck" since he doesn't have a costume in the first place.

Besides, I'm sure they're taking their time in making an actual costume because Firestorm has always had one of the most dumbest looking costumes. The Flash could actually make him cool looking whenever they give him a costume.

The suit will more than likely be a transmutation of whatever he's wearing with the device on his chest integrated as a flat emblem so it isn't as bulky.

As for season 3 of Arrow not being as great as 1 and 2.I think it was because they were trying to focus so hard to make Flash as good as possible. With the next season of Flash already being setup the way it was, they should be able to focus a little more on Arrow to make both really good.

I also think they were so focused on the crossovers took away from Arrow as well. They should maybe do a little less of that next season.
