No Original Series Cast Members Will Appear In STAR TREK Sequel

Showbiz411 have confirmed that we will not see any of the original crew, Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner etc, back for a cameo in J.J. Abrams' upcoming sequel..

As anyone who has seen J.J. Abrams' Star Trek will know, Leonard Nimoy made a cameo appearance as an older Spock as part of the time travel plot. At the time of the movie's release there were rumors that original Kirk William Shatner may pop up in a sequel, since he was said to have been disappointed about not being included first time around. Well bad news for "The Shat", and indeed any fans of the original series hoping for some more cameos, because it seems they won't be happening.

From Showbiz411 at a post MI4 Premiere event..

The next “Star Trek” installment, directed by J.J. Abrams, will have no members of the original cast. No Shatner, no Nimoy. No classic recipe Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Chekhov or Sulu. The last “Star Trek” film featured Leonard Nimoy as Spock. But sources close to the next film, many of whom worked with Abrams on the new “Mission Impossible,” confirmed for me last night that none of the originals has been invited back this time.

“MI4″‘s Simon Pegg, who now plays Scotty (original Scotty, James Doohan, is in space heaven now with original Bones, DeForrest Kelly), quipped, “That would involve time travel. And if the real Scotty showed up, that would be something.”

I'm sure this news won't upset too many fans, especially because as Pegg notes. any appearances from the original cast would have to involve another time travel plot and Abrams has been there, done that. Still I can't help but want to see ol Bill Shatner back up there in a Trek flick!

That's a shame, would've loved Shatner to make a cameo. Especially if the villain is KHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. ;)

Really? Guess it is now. Don't you want to tell us all about the time you ran into Bill Shatner at a gas station?

Shatner's been a real dick when it comes to these reboot films. As soon as he heard that a reboot was going to happen, he went to JJ Abrams and said "I'M IN!" and JJ said, "But you're dead!" Shatner's response? "Well, resurrect me! Or make me a clone! Or digitally de-age me by 60 years! Audiences don't care if it makes sense, they're only seeing this movie for Shatner!" Well the last movie made a ton of cash without Shatner and now his ego is all butt-hurt.

I would like to see Leonard Nimoy as Ambassador Spock (Prime) in this new film, but I don't really want to see any other original series characters as I don't see how they can do it without making it seem forced. Nichelle Nichols as Uhura's grandmother might work in this timeline though.
However, I would LOVE to see a Jonathan Archer or T'Pol cameo (or any other Enterprise charactr for that matter), perhaps they could even integated into the story like Leonard Nimoy in the first one.
Also, I am really hoping Peter Weller reprises his role as John Frederick Paxton, leader of Terra Prime, or perhaps his son.

I think that is for the best. The movie should stand on its own now

watched the film last night, and old Spock said that he had come from 129 years after his first mission with Kirk, meaning that Shatner Kirk is already dead in old Spock's personal timeline. Plus, didn't he die in that movie? And also, the way that Spock came back in time made it impossible for him to return, so he went with the other Vulcans to create their colony.

I actually loved the first film, although I'm by no means a huge Star Trek fan, and I loved seeing Leonard Nimoy reprising Spock, and his scene at the end with Zachary Quinto's Spock stole the show for me! But, as batcavepwnsphonebooth (nice name btw...) said, the next film should stand on its own two feet. The first one was set up so the new series would be freed from continuity restraints. It's time to act on that decision.

I concur. No Khan please, they should know how to deal with that problem with Spock Prime around. Just blow the SS Botany Bay to hell.

as bbhorwith22 said, someone having a passing cameo as or something (but not reprising their old role) could work, such as his suggestion of Nichelle Nichols as Uhura's grandmother, or George Takei as a minor Starfleet Admiral (since Sulu was one of the only Asian characters in the film, having Takei as a random Admiral instead of his grandfather would be better, since not all the Asian characters would be related, if you get what I mean), or even Walter Koenig as Chekov's grandfather.

Shatner had his chance at being in the first movie, and it would have been a pretty poignant cameo too.

Too bad he wanted a bigger role than the surprise appearance the writers had planned. I understand he got so far as to have one-on-one meetings with the filmmakers before the deal fell through.
