As fans of Marvel's First Family (im)patiently wait for some official updates on Marvel Studios' plans for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, rumors continue to swirl, and this latest report claims that two major characters are set to make their MCU debuts alongside Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny.
According to Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic podcast, the all-powerful Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, will appear in the movie.
"I'm told that Matt Shakman is planning to go very cosmic with his Fantastic Four movie. Lots of 1960s elements, and that the film will feature both Galactus and the Silver Surfer."
If accurate, we assume the Eater of Worlds will serve as the main villain, but if the story stays faithful to the comics, the Surfer will also take on an antagonistic role - initially, at least.
Sneider also commented on the recent writer change, with Avatar: The Way of Water's Josh Friedman taking over from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
"Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer's draft of Fantastic Four was fine, but they brought in that new writer to get it to the level that Kevin Feige and Matt Shakman wanted. Marvel is still open to working with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer again."
We've previously heard that a Disney+ Special Presentation featuring both Galactus and Silver Surfer was in development, so it's entirely possible that the characters will only have fairly minor roles in FF to set up that spin-off.
Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 14, 2025. Production has been confirmed to commence early next year.
