The Fantastic Four reboot was given an official release date during San Diego Comic-Con this past Saturday, but we still know very little about Marvel Studios' plans for the team in The MCU. However, Kevin Feige has now provided a very interesting update.

While speaking to THR, the studio head confirmed something many fans of Marvel's First Family have been hoping to hear for quite a while: the new movie will not be another origin story.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” said Feige, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

The tale of how Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm gained their amazing abilities played out in the first of 20th Century Fox's movies, and then again in the disastrous 2015 reboot, so Feige and co. clearly feel there's no need to retread over old ground. Of course, this may also suggest that we'll meet the members of the super-group prior to the 2024 film.

John Krasinski appeared as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and while the A Quiet Place actor has denied any knowledge of his potential return, we'd be very surprised if he didn't reprise the role. A rumor has also done the rounds that Jason Segel will debut as The Thing in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

Right now, Marvel is said to be actively searching for a new director to replace Jon Watts, who parted ways with the project earlier this year.

Fantastic Four is expected to commence production next year.
