SHAMELESS Star Emmy Rossum Reflects On Losing Invisible Woman Role In 2015's FANTASTIC FOUR

We'd call this a lucky escape, but Shameless star Emmy Rossum has now recalled how "devastated" she was upon learning she hadn't been cast as Susan Storm in Josh Trank's 2015 Fantastic Four reboot...

Emmy Rossum is perhaps best known for starring in Shameless, but she very nearly entered the world of superheroes by playing Sue Storm, a.k.a. Invisible Woman, in 2015's Fantastic Four

The actor did a screen test for the blockbuster, but ended up losing out on the role to Kate Mara. Considering the movie went on to become one of the biggest critical and commercial flops in the genre's history, we'd say she had a lucky escape. Of course, Rossum didn't know that at the time, hence why she was left "devastated" upon learning she wouldn't be joining the Marvel Universe.

"I did not get it. Devastated, utterly devastated. I remember where I was when I didn’t get it," the actor recalls. "I was with my now-husband on a beach somewhere, and I got the call that I didn’t get it, and I was pretty sure I didn’t get it because I did not feel that the screen-test went well. I just didn’t hook into that character at all, I didn’t understand the dialogue, I couldn’t sell it, I was like ‘I don’t know what to do with my lines, I can’t find my in here.'

"I think I did [want it]. There’s part of me that thinks that that kind of transformation, when it works, is really fun," Rossum continued. "When it is Iron Man, when it is those things that feel like, they feel really unique, I think it can really work."

She clearly remains interested in potentially starring in a Marvel or DC movie down the line. Hopefully, that comes to pass, and we certainly wouldn't be against Rossum being considered for the MCU's take on Sue Storm when Marvel's First Family debut in that upcoming reboot (which, unfortunately, recently lost Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts).

With any luck, we'll get some news on that movie soon, though the hope among fans right now is that, regardless of the director, John Krasinski will play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic.
