Nobody could ever accuse Ridley Scott of taking it easy!

According to Variety, the legendary director of such sci-fi classics as Blade Runner and Alien has already lined up his next project: Disney's The Merlin Saga.

The film will serve as an origin story for Merlin the wizard who was instrumental in Arthur Pendragon's ascension to the throne, and is one of two projects based on Arthurian legend currently in the pipeline at Disney, the other being a live-action adaptation of The Sword in the Stone.

The report cautions that nothing is set in stone (no pun) just yet, but "sources close to the situation believe this will be Scott’s next movie."

@Spidey91 - Are we talking about the T A Barron book series where Merlin loses his memory and goes on a quest to save his mother's life while learning magic from a bunch of clues his grandfather left behind?

I dont know why studios would consider their to be strong appetite for another King Arthur movie given how little interest anyone showed in the last one barely a few months ago.

@528491 - Has their ever been a lot of interest at the box office for Merlin/King Arthur?

And for that matter, and I mean no disrespect, but when was the last time Ridley Scott directed anything new and fresh that was well-received and was worth the finacial investment?

@TomSolo - The Martian and All the money in the world. ridley scott is a master film maker, some films stumble but no 1 can film or recreate his vision.

alien covenant had mixed reactions but i liked it and so did the critics as it has 68 on rt. No 1 can make a prometheus or alien film like scott.

If the Merlin in this movie is the same as the one from Transformers, I'm on board.

King Arthur hasn't been a property that garners strong interest. Surprised by this.

Just like how I'm surprised by yet ANOTHER GRITTY Robin Hood reboot.
