Mania broke the exciting news that Scott Wheeler and Shaun Smith of Zack Snyder's comic book movie '300' are on board to do their stuff.

Scott Wheeler will be heading up the makeup department bit and Shaun Smith will be acting as the creature designer on the new 'Conan' adaption. Both of the guys right now are working up the creature schemes for the picture with the director Marcus Nispel (Of the Friday the 13th reboot fame).

Smith confirmed all the news exclusively to Mania saying, "as you might expect I really can't say much except it looks really cool and we are excited to be a part of it."

Filming is soon to commence on the epic big screen return of the barbarian hero 'Conan'. Production plans are to start shooting in Bulgaria next February.

A very big thanks to Mania.com for the scoop.

LEEE777 - By crom, i thought this would never happen, glad things are moving, unlike that other project thats got a sword in the works called "Red Sonja." How do you guys feel about the new 'Conan' movie, comments below.

This doesn't sound anything like the Conan novels, and trust me I know I own most of them. I wonder if the writers of this even bothered to actually read any of the novels. Conan is not a refined person out for revenge. In most of the novels he's a barbarian adventurer who sells his sword to anyone paying the right price without using any instant cash. And Acheron doesn't exist in Conan's time. It was destroyed in the great upheaval. I think they're confusing Conan with Kull. I just hope that they would stick to the original story.

Conan was written by Roberrt E. Howard as a
Cimmirian which was the old name for the ancient
Kelts/Irish. Conan means "King" like in the names
Aurthur Conan Doyle or Conan O'brien. He was not
just an apish dolt!

The actor they get for Conan needs to be able to
act not just grunt! I like Paul Telfer for it!
But The Rock would fit the part well!

I'm glad they are getting a good make-up team at
least! But I cringe to think what Hollywood might
do this time with CONAN THE CIMMIRIAN!

By the way, check out my Conan fancast in fanfic
for more on Conan.

I was a history major in school
so I know a lot about ancient history and especially
the ancient Kelts 'cause I'm a lot Irish, Irish
Norwegian to be exact!

Prostetic abdominals, hideous creatures, and sword fights. By crom let it begin!

That's a hell of a good fit. Man this could be SO epic. I hope it is. I love Conan comics, but I was not too fond of the movies. I really just can't wait to see how this goes

DDD - 11/12/2009, 10:29 AM
By the way, CROM was an ancient Keltic God.

"Also known as CENN-CRUACH, CROM-CRÚAICH, CROM-DUBH, CRÓICH, CROMM

CROM-CRUAICH: 'Lord of the Mound'. A very primitive God of Sacrifice, and the Chief Idol of Ireland.

CROM-CRUAICH was a large Megalithic standing stone at Magh Slaecht, surrounded by twelve subservient stone pillars and an air of mystery. Each year children were sacrificed to him to ensure fertile crops and good harvests.

Eventually Christianity came along and put a stop to all that. St Patrick said it was made of gold, and that he destroyed it with a wave of his crosier. He also claimed that there was a demon inside which jumped out and ran off. CROM-CRUAICH then bowed down to Patrick and went all droopy, remaining so for evermore.

This was a great public relations exercise for Christianity. But we feel St Paddy was not one to let a little wild exaggeration stand in the way of one of his 'me and me crosier' yarns."

Very interesting, triple D! I always knew Crom must correspond to something that was really out there in ancient times.

That story about St Patrick is absolutely whacked... that's crazy

lol I wonder if Ror is descended from Conan ;)
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 10:54 AM
Paul Telfer would be most likely to fit Conan.
He's a British actor, 6'2" of muscle and rugged
good looks!

Betty
Betty - 11/12/2009, 10:55 AM
Is it just me or does Conan only reference Crom in the movies. All the comics that I've read he's always thanking Mitra, who is of Indian/Southern asian descent, I believe.
Betty
Betty - 11/12/2009, 10:56 AM
Paul Telfer is 6'2"? He looks short. Well, everybody looks short to me.
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 11:05 AM
@Darthmulder, Conan was the name for one of the kings of
Ireland. The first king of Ireland was NIALL (pronounced
NAWL) of the Nine Hostages. All the kings of Ireland were
related to Niall and I know I'm related to Niall. I don't
know about Ror but if he IS related to Niall then I'm
related to Ror! lol Niall is where the names O'Neal and MacNeal come from

Niall was 7'2" tall and most of his descendant kings were
tall! I'm 6'6" tall so I guess that's where i get my height! :D :D :D
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 11:10 AM
Betty IMDB lists Telfer at 6'2" and other sites do
too, so I guess he really is 6'2"!
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 11:13 AM
By the way, Schwarzenegger is 6'2" also!
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 11:16 AM
Conan was written as a Cimmerian by Robert E. Howard.
Cimmirian is the ancient name for The Kelts or the
Irish and Scotts.

The movie looks good and I hope this role goes to a fresh face. Not just any fresh face but to some one who has Conan features. I am sure the guy from Degrassi Goes Hollywood (James Preston Rogers) is the best choice for Conan. I saw his profile on IMDB he is 6'6 and is very ripped.

shahrazstate @ You want James Preston Rogers for every role lol, from THOR (which is perfect for him, well if Hemsworth wasn't about), to LOBO!!!

; D

Hey @ DDD @ Stick your Link up here dude!
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 11:27 AM
My last name is Dailey which is descended from King Dalach
or Daly Mac Niall which was a descendant of King Niall.

Niall was the son of Concobar, last High Chieftan of
Ireland! I think Howard was trying to stay true to
the ancient history of Cimmeria (Ireland)!
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 11:33 AM
BTW, I just found out on IMDB that Tefler comes
from Paisley Scotland, the same place Gerard
Butler comes from.

So Tefler is truly Keltic! Now that makes me
think that he is perfect for Conan, even more!
:D :D :D

I see Leee@ Well I don't know how to put an http
link up so all I can do is say, "EVERYBODY CHECK
OUT MY CONAN FANCAST! :D

Leee@ I'm extremely heterosexual myself and I like
woman's bodies A LOT! lol But it doesn't take a gay
guy to see if a man is attractive and handsome as an
actor! Casting directors have to know that type of
thing to do their job, who is attractive and has
the right charisma for the right part, no matter
what sex they are!

I can't wait for this movie, especially if the do a true to books version. Also, DDD convinced me quite a while back, Telfer is Conan.

DDD - I didn't realize other people knew all the crazy Celt stuff aside from me, you rock man. Have you read anything on CuChullain? I would love a movie about him.
DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 6:53 PM
Now here's a pic that shows how tall Telfer actually
is! He is beside Leelee Sobieski here and she's a very
tall girl, one of the tallest women in Hollywood
at 5'10' and size 10 feet! lol

Telfer is far taller than her here so he's an actual
6'2"!

DDD
DDD - 11/12/2009, 7:04 PM
JerusalemJr@, Yup there are some other crazy
Keltic-files like you! I'm Irish and Norwegian, my last
name is Dailey (the original spelling of Daly was
O'Dailaigh or O'Dailey).

Yeah, Cu Chulain would make an awesome movie!

Cú Chulainn (Irish for "Culann's Hound" — Irish pronunciation: [kuːˈxʊlɪnʲ]), also spelled Cúchulainn, Cúchulain, Cúchullain or Cú Chulaind, is an Irish mythological hero who appears in the stories of the Ulster Cycle, as well as in Scottish and Manx folklore. The son of the god Lugh and Deichtine (sister of Conchobar mac Nessa), he was originally named Sétanta ([ˈʃeːd̪ˠɔn̪ˠd̪ˠə]).

He gained his better-known name as a child after he killed Culann's fierce guard-dog in self-defense, and offered to take its place until a replacement could be reared. At the age of seventeen he defended Ulster single-handedly against the armies of queen Medb of Connacht in the epic Táin Bó Cúailnge ("Cattle Raid of Cooley").

It was prophesied that his great deeds would give him everlasting fame, but that his life would be short – one reason he is compared to the Greek hero Achilles.

He is known for his terrifying battle frenzy or ríastrad (similar to a berzerker's frenzy, though sometimes called a "warp spasm" because of the physical changes that take place in the warrior), in which he becomes an unrecognisable monster who knows neither friend nor foe. He fights from his chariot, driven by his loyal charioteer Láeg, and drawn by his horses, Liath Macha and Dub Sainglend. In more modern times, Cú Chulainn is often referred to as the "Hound of Ulster"
