According to Latino Review, who have been spot on so far in their Conan casting exclusives, Nichols will play Conan's love interest Tamara, edging out out other contenders like Cloverfield’s Jessica Lucas and the L Word’s Sarah Shahi. Nichols is best known to CBM fans as playing Scarlett in GI Joke and the green skinned chick in Star Trek.

See Rachel's gallery at ComicBookHotties.com!

Here is the casting call for Tamra:

Tamara is 18 to 24 years old, Caucasian or Middle Eastern, open to all ethnicities; beautiful, studious, correct, a novitiate of a Greek influenced monastery. A master of martial arts, she has been trained to be the Queen’s servant, bodyguard and best friend. She and many other female bodyguards to the queen have been in hiding most of their lives because of the curse of Acheron, which would take the queen’s life to bring almost immortal power to its king. When Khalar Singh, a powerful warlord with ambitions to become the king of Acheron, storms the monastery and captures all of the novitiates, she is separated from Ilira, the one she must protect. With all of her strength and will, Tamara is determined to find and rescue her. She finds herself in league with Conan because of a mutual need to find Khalar Singh. She is not in the least intimidated by Conan’s size or grim demeanor and their alliance eventually blossoms into something that surprises them both…

Nichols is actually the second GI Joe actor to be cast in Conan. Leo Howard, who played young Snake Eyes will play young Conan. Maybe Channing Tatum could play his brother or something?

With Nichols, Lang and Rourke, this casting is looking pretty damn awesome. Except for the lead role and Crap Sap of course. They really should release accurate, up to date pictures of Mamoa so we can get a better idea.

And what's this "Tamara" character??? Shouldn't she play Valeria???

i dont know thunderforce...I dont think it needs to be in 3-D.

I just dont want the movies to over-saturate things and make every movie 3-D and then it loose its umph!

Yes, but this still does not negate the fact that Bob [frick]ing Sapp is in the movie. I don't care who you cast, he gives the movie AIDS. The only saving grace would be he has no lines and is decapitated in his fist and only scene.

They would have been better off with Kevin Grevioux or something.

Oh, Geez! Her boobs didn't save GI Joke and they won't save
Conan! The only way Momoa could look like Conan is for him
to where rubber muscles like Juggernaut in X-MEN 3!

This whole movie is a sap! A sap on funds that other movies
could use to make an actual good movie! This movie is gonna
be a train wreck! And I think I'm understating things!

I haven't seen anything of Mamoa other than one or two pics. I can't say what his acting is like but from what I've seen people are being unfair about his size.

When Conan came out I remember a lot of talk about Arnie being too big for playing a convincing barbarian. Now Mamoa is too small!

Also the originals were complete cheese fest movies with no real substance other than a "brain off" enjoyment. So why do people expect OSCAR material in this movie? Yes, times have changed and we rightfully demand more in our cinematic viewing experience but lets be realistic people.

RON@, CONAN is a big muscular savage guy who can throw
horses with riders around and pick up immensely heavy
boulders and such! He was a gladiator slave who survived
past all the other gladiator slaves! He's a tall huge man
who bulled and fought his way to being the King of the
Symmerians (The ancient Kelts)!

He's not a scrawny-built guy like Jasdon Momoa! I liked
Jason on STRAGATE ATLANTIS! His Ronan character was cool
but he surely ain't no CONAN by any stretch of the
imagination! He is just not believable in the part
unless he suddenly becomes built more like Schwarzenegger!

I'm not liking this casting at all.
Not only is Mamoa too skinny (without the facial hair, his face works well enough for Conan), and there is no way he can put on enough muscle to be Conan, but now this chick. If she's supposed to be a kick-ass warrior, why can't they cast a woman who looks like she could kick ass. She just doesn't look physical enough. Her character is described as a "master of martial arts", so I'm guessing they're going to have her doing wire-work and crazy kung-fu moves.
At least all the women in the past Conan movies looked physical enough to fight.

This movie is going to be a cross between the Hercules/Xena shows and Scorpian King...

Shaman - she owns you too!? I wondered where she got to at the weekends but I'm not allowed to ask! Last time I questioned her she gave me one hell of a beating, although the sex after was soooooooooo hot!

Superdog - why am I only hearing about this show now?! I've been wasting so much time!

I've read every Conan book and though I agree that Momoa a couple months ago was too scrawny, I won't pass judgment on him until I see how he looks come production time. If he is still scrawny, it won't be good. If he bulks up some like Hemsworth has for Thor, he may end up working out okay. I don't think Conan needs to have the mass that Arnold had. Something in between where Mamoa was and where Arnold was would be fine with me. In fact, I don't think Robert Howard penned him as the massive frame that Arnold was. he was described as supple, agile and being panther-like. That wouldn't fit the Arnold image of Conan. Howard also referred to one of his other characters, Cormac Fitzgeoffrey as being a double of Conan. Cormac was 6'2" and 215 lbs.

hescian@ I know we disagree with this, but if Barry Bonds can put on 35-40 lbs of muscle in a few months, Momoa can easily put on 20 lbs if they deem it necessary. He wouldn't be Arnold-size, but I think it would be believable enough. I did find an interview with Momoa in which he states he is going to be putting on an additional 10 lbs with the help of a trainer. That has me somewhat worried, as I don't think that is enough. Per my comments above, I think we may be assuming Conan should be Arnold-size when he really wasn't written that way in the original books. Given the illustrations in Conan the Cimmerian, another 20 lbs on Momoa would get him pretty close to that look.

...and I liked Pathfinder. :P

theartofoneness@ actually, if you straighten out Momoa's dreads, which I am sure they will do, he looks very similar to the illustrations of Conan in the Howard's books. I am not going to pass judgment until I see what they do with him.

Ranger14
Ranger14 - 3/5/2010, 11:20 PM
Gunsmith@ Those photos are comic book images of Conan, in which he is depicted as more bulky and muscular. If you go to Howard's books and look at the black and white illustrations inside, he isn't as bulky. He isn't lean either. Somewhere in between Momoa and the illustrations you posted. What's interesting is the images of Conan on the cover of Howard's books show him to be more muscular then the black & whites inside. Not uncommon in novels as the hero is portrayed larger in build on the cover (see romance novels...Fabio syndrome). I can't find any of the black & white images on the web other than going to Amazon and scanning through Howard's books, which show various inside illustrations.

I dont' want an overly lean Conan. I don't think 10 lbs is going to be enough to do it, but 20-25 lbs may do the trick for me. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Shaman: This isn't a remake, nor is it an adaptation of "Red Nails" (the Howard story Valeria appeared in).

Ron: the original Howard stories are some of the best fantasy stories in the world, comparable to Tolkien in their influence and quality. They're collected in the Library of America and Penguin Classics. An adaptation of a Tolkien book got 10 Oscars.

That said, asking for something more than the Scorpion King does not mean asking for Bergman or Kurosawa.

DDD: Conan was never a slave, nor a gladiator. He became as muscular and badass as he was by living life in constant danger of wild beasts, raids from other barbarians, the elements, and dark sorcery.

Ranger14: that Conan/Cormac Fitzgeoffrey quote is a complete myth. Not only did Howard never describe Conan as looking like Cormac, but the measurements are wrong. Cormac was a fraction of an inch over 6' and 200lbs, not 6'2" 210lbs. The only description Howard made of Conan was 6' 180lbs when he was 15, and noted that he "lacked much of his full growth."

Secondly, Howard described Conan's *movements* as agile and pantherlike. When describing his physique, he used terms like "massive", "heavily muscled", "thick", "deep", "heavy" and the like. That said, somewhere between Momoa and Schwartzeneggar would work fin.
