First Proper Look At Billy Connolly's 'Dain Ironfoot' In THE HOBBIT: TBOTFA

We've previously seen some concept art, but the following scanned image gives us our first live-action (though there are actually rumors the character will be CGI!) look at Scottish actor/comedian Billy Connolly as Dwarven warrior Dain Ironfoot as he approaches Gandalf astride his battle-pig.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on December 17th.

See, I was just about to get excited that Billy Connolly is in a Hobbit movie (just as I was excited that Stephen Fry was in the previous film).

...and then I see they put him on a [frick]ing battle pig. Seriously?

Walking, talking tress, giant shape-shifting bear-men, people riding elephants, wolves and eagles -- no problem.

Battle pigs? -- [frick] YOU JACKSON!!

Awesome still. I always wondered why there weren't any Dwarf armies in LOTR, especially in the final movie.

I liked the first Hobbit movie. but the CGI hobbits that are invulnerable to the effects of melted metal really jumped the shark and nuked the fridge altogether. I won´t bother to watch the third one.

I haven't enjoyed this new trilogy at all. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with the films, they just seem to lack the "magic" of the Lord of The Rings trilogy.

But I will say this... Battle Pig??? Awesome.

I handled my fair share of battle pigs in college. Rolling over to see them in the morning was always a nice way to start my hangover.

Theses movies are awesome, they're not trying to be Lord of the Rings, they're their own thing
And @ victorhugo, the was only 1 Hobbit, there were 10 dwarves and they kinda are fireproof. Their skin is tougher and their muscle is denser than humans

I'm going to say it's CG Dain Ironfoot — not Billy Connolly.

Obviously it's CG whenever he's riding the pig. You can't get pigs that big, even in New Zealand.

Whenever someone complains your Scottish accent is too cartoony... You just say, no "I'm doing my impression of Billy Connolly....bitch."

@RorMachine Haha point taken! But you do have to admit: there's a significant step down from massive elephants, walking trees, and giant eagles...to a [frick]ing battle pig, and also that battle elk that Thranduil likes to ride. Are those reasons why the movie will suck? Of course not. But at the same time, they're just so lame and uninspired.

RexDartEskimoSpy: Havnt you seen the horror-movie "Razorback"? I belive it is from NZ. The pig in that one is huge! (It is a pretty damn awesone movie)

My God, he actually looks CG.... I hope he isn't all CG in the final film!!! Not that it would ruin it for me, but it'd certainly suck if we'd get a full CG Dwarf character!! Dammit.

No one has mentioned War Pigs / Black Sabbath..? that battle pig is bad ass.
These films are more interesting to me because the dwarves are much better than Hobbits.

What's funny is the title of movies is The Hobbit & all other characters are cooler.
Bilbo is better than Frodo & Friends thankfully.
