Deadline report that Brenton Thwaites, who looks set for big things with upcoming roles in Maleficent and The Signal, has also signed on to play the lead in Summit Entertainment's Gods Of Egypt. According to the site he'll play Bek, "a human thief who cares little for the affairs of gods but when he discovers Zaya (yet to be cast) has been cursed by Set (Butler), he falls on the side of Horus (Coster-Waldau), hoping that Set’s death will break the curse". Proyas wrote the script with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who are behind Universal’s upcoming horror saga Dracula Untold.

Paradise Lost was far too expensive, so the project fell through, so Proyas is recycling his ideas into this film.

@Firgosaurus 100% agree

@eviltattooedguy

It got cancelled due to over budget etc i believe. 'Paradise Lost' seemed more promising to me than this though imo....

White hollywood, remember? They'll never admit the real Jews and Egyptians were black. That's why all the noses were cut off of the pyramids in Egypt. To hide the real identity of those people. Don't be surprised: "WHITE AMERIKKKA."

@Figosaurus Agreed.

Starting to sound like another "Prince of Persia". Not one person in the movie even looked Persian.

Why does Hollywood feel like all leading stars in films must be white to be accepted by the masses?

*Off Topic*
In all reality, race is the biggest hold up on the Black Panther film. I'm willing to bet my life they are trying to find some way to fit white characters into a movie about a high functioning/progressive, technologically advanced, isolationist, African country, with a super powered King.

I guess minorities are not capable of saving the world apparently, only white males... wtf

I'm willing to be 1000% that's the exact reason why a Black panther movie will most likely NOT be made. It's all about white supremacy. It's not about people accepting it, because most won't even think twice about it. It's just about a position of power; supremacy.

Who cares about the temperature of Egypt being high, Egypt is located in North western Africa and that is why the cast of this movie should be black. Even when a movie is set in Africa Hollywood still somehow finds a way to give it an all white cast. I've said this before and I'll say it again white people would shit bricks if we went back and did movies about the Norse gods, Olympian's, or any other predominately white culture and people's gods with an all black cast. This is some bullshit at its finest.

This reminds of Cleopatra all over again SMH...I think an accurate description of the Egyptians many people are divided over because of Egypt's many accomplishments and deep history.

I would go so far to say that an average ANCIENT Egyptian person could have looked Sudanese, Ethiopian, East African or Nubian. Yes also Nubian...the sun must have got progressively hot, must have some melanin in your skin to be protected from the sun.

The God SET would probably be more accurate if he looked like Idris Elba, Will Smith or Denzel Washington than Gerard Butler.

White Hollywood could eat a big one for all I care! However thee are such things as Nubians and Arabs. But this is just dumb as hell. The film might actually be good but only viewers dumbfounded will not understand what Hollywood is doing here.

I don't give a flying [frick] if the actors playing the gods are white, black, blue or [frick]ing red. If Horus aint got falcons head some ones gonna pay yo. I love how out there and crazy the egyptian imagination was back then. So such imagination shouldn't pissed on by having them look like Jamie Lannister and Gerard Butler.

Also is the world short on actual egyptians or something.

I actually think the Cgi/motion capture road ala Avatar and that planned Paradise Lost would be perfect for this film.

@Deadpool and @Jer3miah

You two are totally right, they keep pushing Black Panther back further and further. I bet they'll give Guardians and Hulk (which I'd be cool with) a sequel before we get a Black a Panther movie!

Shoooot, for all we know he could be introduced in Avengers 3 sadly... That's why I want to become a book writer for heroic tales so that I can totally show that diversity exist.

I'm not black but i bet there won't be half of the backlash we got when elba got cast as heimdall. it's incredibly [frick]ed up. and i for one was looking forward to proyas' paradise lost. [frick] that guy now. I'm glad he didn't get to make that.

@Tevii

A Black Heimdall is only one of how many Comic Book Movie ethnicity changes? Two? I wouldn't call it stupid because Idris did the role justice! I haven't read of Asgardians being of one race however it's in history books, African History Books and even Medieval History books that Egyptains were brown and it's earlier ancestors being very dark. Even though this movie is dealing with Gods and all you can't ignore ethnicity that's actually historical correct. I'll take reality over a comic book race any day! lol

Tevii
Tevii - 10/8/2013, 8:16 AM
@TheBlackMan - Asgardians would be one race, a white race. They're based on the Norseman and it was actually a religion. So this is no different. Regardless I dont agree with this casting either. Idris though a great actor should not have been Heimdall. And these guys should not be Egyptians. Its sad if you can only recognize bad when its one way or only when it effects you. I try to acknowledge when its wrong either way.

Heimdall should not have been black, Terry Fitzgerald should NOT have been white in the Spawn movie. The Akira cast should not be white. James Bond should not be black. (its CLEARLY listed his race in the books)
But I can name a whole helluva a lot more characters that have been changed to black. (the list that i have is entirely too long for this post)
I believe in equality, but I also believe we need to stop pretending characters are so interchangeable. Each ethnicity has a unique culture that is NOT interchangeable. But yet we act like we are all the same and I think thats sad and its insulting to unique cultures.
