@Capt.Dusty: Yes, indeed. Can't wait to see this in theatres and add both parts of the prequel to my epic LOTR DVD collection.

I seriously dont get this excitement about this movie. I only know the hobbits from Lord of the Rings so someone has to tell me what I missed, so I can be as excited as you are...

@ Tajin88 -

You should give it a read. It's a ton of fun.

While The Hobbit serves as a prologue of sorts to The Lord of the Rings, it also stands alone as one of the greatest literary fantasies ever written. It's a much more whimsical tale than the sprawling epic found in LOTR, in the vein of more traditional fairy tale quests. However, it plants the seeds for much that later transpires in LOTR (the finding of the One Ring, Gollum, the mysterious Necromancer in Mirkwood Forest - guess who that turns out to be?). and more. It also has arguably the greatest dragon in all of literature, a giant skin changer, the Lord of the Eagles, a trio of trolls, giant spiders, an awesome game of riddles, and much more.

I've always felt that The Hobbit lends itself much better to film than LOTR, given that it's a more straightforward narrative and simple quest when compared with LOTR. I think that the two Hobbit films are going to be great movies and tremendous box office successes.

Oh for an edit feature. I give my above comment a quick glance over and post it, only to immediately see a few grammatical errors too late.

Nice recap Stormbreaker!!

The Hobbit is a fantastic book and I've got great expectations for the two movie adaptations. I feel sorry for other movie studios that want to bring out films during the holiday season for 2012 and 2013.

Oscar for Andy!

One thing I am really looking forward to is seeing Beorn the Bear totally destroying the goblins

Thanks hoodedjester. And I agree about other films trying to compete with The Hobbit during the holiday season.

GrayFox1025 - Me too, but we'll have to wait until December 2013 to see Beorn unleashed during the Battle of Five Armies!!
