Seth Lochhead, the Canadian scribe who co-wrote the action thriller Hanna, has been hired to work alongside Josh Trank on the Shadow of the Colossus script. Justin Marks wrote an early draft back in 2009. Chronicle's Trank will also direct, but is apparently still attached to two Marvel comic book properties as well - Venom and the Fantastic Four reboot. The story of Shadow Of The Colossus deals with a young man who thinks his lover has died, and desperate to bring her back, he makes a deal with a demon resurrect her - but only if he slays 16 giant creatures known as Colossi first. Kevin Misher will produce the movie, with Misher Films’ Andy Berman and Kevin Chang overseeing.

I still don't know how they're going to pull this off.
it's one dude and a disembodied voice,and the dude has to fight 16 giant monsters...ok
1) a movie with only one human protagonist is very tricky to pull off,not impossible,but certainly difficult.
2)how are they gonna cram 16 (assuming they use the 16 Colossi) action sequences in a 2/2 and a half hour movie?

still hoping for the best,because that's one awesome game.

Yes! I too hope FOX loses the FF rights! If Marvel where to do the reboot, Annihilus SHOULD be the first villain they fight!

This will be good. It needs to be artsy, silent, and emotional. Wall-E did a good job with no dialog through the first 2/3, as did UP with the first 10 minutes. It's all about the acting, direction, cinematography and score. Needs absolutely beautiful imagery. I say 3D will help greatly in this instance. Artsy 3D, like Dredd.

I too agree, the desert collision was unexpectedly "epic" if ever there was a proper use of the cliche.

Shadow of the Colossus is probably my favourite game of all time. Every PS3 owner should give the HD remake a try! (try ICO as well)

That being said - I have zero faith they can make a decent adaptation. If everything works out fine we get a unique movie with really great visuals, but without the element of player involvement a lot of the impact of the experience is lost imo.

@Spidey91 - They'll have to follow the 11th Commandment of Movie Making: The 11-Minute Rule; I.E. an action sequence every eleven minutes. It's a real thing: time Joel Silver movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon and youll see.

With Shadow, if they follow that rule, they'd be looking at just under 3 hours for all 16 Colossi.

11x16 = 176
176/60 = 2.93 hours = 3 hours

You'd be looking at a video game movie on a Lord of the Rings-scale epic. And I'm okay with that.
