Is that Benedict Cumberbatch in the second pic? In addition, Jackson wrote on his Facebook page:

"Tonight Martin Freeman finished his last shot as Bilbo Baggins. The end of an incredible two and a half years. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role - a character that Martin has nurtured and crafted with love and great skill.

We have said goodbye to our elves, humans, wizards and now the hobbit. We now enter our final 2 weeks of pick-ups, and it's wall to wall dwarves. These pick-ups have been grueling and intense, but I'm so happy with what we've been shooting. These next two movies are going to be pretty great!"

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be out this December, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again the following one ion 2014.

I too enjoyed the hobbit and even though it wasn't as epic or great as the lotr it's still better than 90% of the shit they crank out today. Ready for Smaug!

You people do realize that The Hobbit book was geared more towards children than LOTR right? And LOTR should feel a lot edgier than the hobbit.

@monkeyballs...maybe you'd like it more if Bilbo went crazy-ape-shit-bonkers and snapped Smaug's neck?

The Hobbit was awesome. Much better than I expected. I actually was kinda 'meh' about it before I saw it.

And the higher fps rate along with IMAX 3D made me feel like I was IN the movie.

Lmao!
Also I thought the neck snap was appropriate.

My main problem was visual. The hfr made everything so real it was really obvious what was fake. Wish the orcs had been real and not all CGI. Not seeing Smaug in the hfr should help for me
