Have you guys ever been in a group project either in school, college, or work. And while everyone else in the group literally produced the work and worked hard for their rewarded earnings, there was that one person who didn't do anything at all. Nothing at all, and yet still wanted a piece of the same glorious earnings?
Yeah, that seems to be the case here between Legendary Pictures and the Producers.

"I’ve read the Complaint for Declaratory Relief and it states that Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and Doug Davison agreed with Legendary (who obtained the rights from Toho) that their services could be terminated if Legendary didn’t use any script ideas that the trio came up with. Apparently, Lin (Lin Pictures), Lee, and Davison (Vertigo Films) have done nothing to aid the production except recommend a screenwriter and share some notes on possible story paraphernalia. Legendary therefore, per their agreement, has the right to remove the three if they don’t use any of their story ideas, which is probably why Frank Darabont has been brought on to finish the script. Legendary feels the trio has not contributed enough to the production and is seeing to removing them."
So let's review:
-Lin and Lee did not help obtain rights from Toho, Legendary obtained the rights.
-Lin and Lee only recommended a screenwriter, and a few notes for the film that apparently were not used at all.
-Because their story ideas were not used, Frank Darabont had been assigned to finish the script. Remember, he's not Re-Writing, he's finishing.
-And it appears that a Doug Davidson is also being booted out as well along with Lin and Lee.
Looks like this really isn't much of a Godzilla battle. Yeah, 'Legendary Pictures stomped first' but it appears that one stomp is all that it will take to wrap this up quickly.
For those of you interested, here's the court case file submitted by the departed producers.
