The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

Dwalin is already my favorite dwarf.

It's only really Fili (or is is Kili?) that doesn't look much like a Dwarf. They did very little prosthetic work on Aiden Turner's face..if any. But I can handle it, those two are supposed to be the youngest, I guess Dwarves noses/ears etc grow with age!

Nice. But Fili and Kili are too slim to be dwarves. OK, I understand they are the youngest but I didn't picture them like that, they should be more gritty, less fair. Fairness isn't a property of Aulë's children.

They're elves in deep cover I tell ya.

@Fogs, well said.

Kili and the shortness of Thorin's beard bug me the most. Otherwise I think the dwarves look great.

I hate it that they made one of the dwarfs a "pretty boy" dwarf, compare him the the rest i mean, doses not make sense.

@Ragnaroknroll - Yeah!

But I understand their concern, there a lot of dwarves and they were certainly very worried of them looking too much like each other, so they gave them very strict personalities, both visual and character-wise.

We'll see. I'm not judging PJ's movies, they've rocked my boat so far.

I think it would be a problem the way the two young dwarves look if they didn't explain it in the film. If they are saying they become more dwarf-like with age I'm ok with that. It makes sense.

I understand the reasons from a Hollywood perspective but it's still a little jarring. Yes I also hope they provide some explanations in the film. But in PJ we trust! He hasn't let us down yet. I thought the trailer was perfect. When the dwarves started singing I got chills.

Yeah but I mean drastically! A prominent feature of these Dwarves are their very exaggerated noses, foreheads and ears..which is why it's so noticeable that Filli and Killi don't really have em yet.

If you take a journey that's unexpected, then you can expect the unexpected. Unless, you are expecting to encounter the unexpected, then it's expected. Expect me to see this flim.

What I don't understand is that if Kili is so good looking why would he ever settle for a bearded dwarf girl?

I think their heads look small. I don't remember Gimli's head looking small. They kind of look like caricatures.

They all look really old and the dwarves make-up is terrible in places. Especially the first dwarf. As for the shire i think it looks way too clean, he is a hobbit after all.
