Paramount Announces Title and Release Date for Upcoming DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS Film

Using the first ever D&D Direct event as a platform, Paramount Pictures has announced the official title and release date for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons film.

Fans of the theater-of-the-mind RPG fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons will rejoice to hear that the film adaptation of the beloved game is on the way, and it's not as far off as some might assume.

At the first ever Dungeons & Dragons Direct event, Paramount Pictures took the opportunity to delight fans with brief video confirming the title of the film as Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, while also announcing a release date of 3/3/2023.

The film has been in production for some time now with no real news leaking aside from a few BTS shots of Fast & Furious alum Michelle Rodriguez in costume, riding a dragon boat, and wielding a mighty axe!

Honor Among Thieves will be brought to the silver screen by Game Night directors John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, who are also credited as writers on the film. Bringing the characters to life will be Chris Pine (Wonder Woman, Star Trek), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Sophia Lillis (IT, Uncle Frank), Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious Saga, Avatar), Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), and Hugh Grant (Love Actually, Notting Hill)

The OG date of 5/3/23 never made sense 2 days before Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.

Best way to do this would be a cross between the recent Jumanji movie and that D&D episode of Community. A group of players getting together for a game...several of them very experienced, a serious dungeon master with hard rules, and maybe a first time player who really wants to get into it. Then, tell the story mostly through the lens of the game itself (i.e. a fantasy movie cinematography with grand set designs and costumes), but have the characters just be avatars for the players. Pepper in some real-world interruptions (pizza arriving at the door, a phone call someone HAS to take, a much needed cigarette break, etc.) but keep the action hard and thin out the humor in the final act.

Start the general audience with laughter and silliness, but bring them on board in the end. We forget for a moment that they are players and not the characters. And then end the movie with the real life friends laughing and just hanging out after the finale. Gotta give it heart.

Would be cool.
