SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN Opens To $1.383 Million At Midnight Screenings

Snow White And The Huntsman has exceeded expectations, beating last week's Men in Black 3's per-screen average. It is now apparently well on its way to a much higher opening than even Universal imagined. Read on for details.

Deadline reports that after weeks of unimpressive tracking, things have finally turned around for Universal after a sudden increase in interest looks set to secure Snow White and the Huntsman a $50 million weekend (despite predictions of around $40 million from the studio). Shown at 1,092 locations, it took an impressive $1.383M at midnight screenings last night in North America. This is a good start and noteworthy due to the fact that it beat Men in Black 3's (a 3D sequel) per-screen average. The pressure is on for the Universal film to succeed after the disappointing opening of Battleship a few weeks ago. Click HERE to check out my 4* review of Snow White and the Huntsman.

STARRING:

Kristen Stewart as Snow White
Chris Hemsworth as Eric, the Huntsman
Charlize Theron as Queen Ravenna
Sam Claflin as Prince William
Lily Cole as Greta

RELEASE DATE: June 1st, 2012.

Saw it on Wednesday. It was good. Viusally stunning. Action was great. Hemsworth was great, Theron was chilling and even Stewart was alright. Once you get past the twilight shtick, she's a decent actress.

Can't wait to see how much Avengers makes versus SWATH and MIB3 this weekend.

MIB3 made $1.555mil midnight.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that number is greater than SWATH's $1.383mil.

The only difference is that SWATH did it with half the screenings.

When the first Twilight came out i didn't find her very attractive. In fact i called her fartface on account of that face she always made. But she's truly becoming an attractive woman nowadays and i wouldn't mind disappointing her too.

Hemsworth bringing the comics fans to cinema and Stewert bringing the Twilight fans = lots of money. :)

The Avengers is less than $1 million behind tdk to surpass it and become the 3rd grossing movie of all time, and although the movie is been out for 1 month now, to be in 3rd place is a good sing, is NOT slowing down too fast like most movies usually do....

I'll be watching SWATH this weekend, and Avengers again on my day off on wednesday !

Oh look, people are realizing that Kristen is a decent actress. Hazzah. I've been saying it for a while now. Twilight makes anyone look bad. She's been in the acting game for over twelve years and is one for the future. Looking forward to Thor kicking troll butt (rehearsal for Thor 2?)

@IM53, she looks like a crack whore in that picture.

I'm seeing it tonight with the lady, definitely looks like it'll be a fun movie, but I really can't see Kristin Stewart out hot Charlize Theron, really. She always has the dumb ass look on her face like she sharted or something.

Never was attracted to her at first but her late night talk show appearances over the last year have changed my view of her.

I'd do her outside in broad daylight, shoot a load on her face, then say, "See, I can make you sparkle in the sun too!"

Anyone who has seen The Runaways know's that Kristen Stewart is a good actress. You forget that it is not actually Joan Jett when watching it. I never saw the Twilight movies but i am guessing she was alright in them. I look forward to seeing Snow White tomorrow.

Why's everyone raving on about Kristen, seriously... if you saw her walking down the street you ain't gonna give her a second glance.

Now... Charlize on the otherhand... give me a couple of minutes with her and I'll die a happy man!

I'll be taking my daughter to see this soon, likely next weekend.

Equivocal, I saw Avengers a 3rd time last night, and there were about 25 people there... on a Thursday night. The theater still has 2 auditoriums showing through the week. It's 1 mil behind TDK for 3rd highest DOMESTIC gross, it passed TDK in worldwide earnings in it's first 10 days of American release I believe, 2 weeks at the most. TDKR has an honest shot at retaking the domestic title back, but not the global.

"On Stewart: I have never found her attractive. Maybe it's how she looks, her constant stupid expression, utter lack of personality, or being so damn depressing all the time. Whatever it is, probably a combo of all those, I just don't find her attractive."

Couldn't agree more.

The critics certainly aren't being to kind as to her delivery in the film:

"What Stewart shows in the daunting demands of a Joan of Arc role, opposing the likes of a monster of guile and evil like Theron's majestic, entirely ruthless villain, is that she just can't hack it."

"Yet another film that tells us, over and over again, that Kristen Stewart is the most valuable, sought-after being in the universe, without showing us any reason why she would be."

Even one of the film's positive reviews had to point it out...

"Stunningly shot and inconsistently acted and written, Snow White has enough visual fireworks to keep the film afloat, even if star Kristen Stewart can't get out of Twilight mode."

I saw it, Hemsworth and Theron were the best actors in the whole film and were the highlights for me. It was an ok flick for me 3/5.

I thought Stewart did well. I agree that her battle speech seemed awkward, but it was Snow White (the supposed avatar of life and beauty) rallying soldiers to help her go kill some bitch- how could anyone make that not awkward?

It was poor mens versions of the hobbit, Thor, and some other movie, maybe Joan of arc... But at least no one sparkled. Just felt disjointed to me

I could see where Theron could have been the enchantress and her brother malekith, but now that snow white beat marvel to it, no. You'd just have the same movie.

I saw it, it sucked, my girlfriend even hated it. Theron was the best thing in the movie. Crappy foreshadowing with the Huntsman showing Snow White that stab move...randomly in an apparently dangerous Dark Forest...which I knew immediately that was the "move" to kill the queen. Incredibly lame, terrible pacing, horrible fight scenes, and why the [frick] was every animal CGI? You mean to tell me they couldn't have gotten a couple of real rabbits and shit?
