THE GREEN KNIGHT: Dev Patel's Sir Gawain Faces His Destiny On Latest Poster; New Trailer Tomorrow

A24 fans were more than a little disappointed when The Green Knight was delayed, but the stunning-looking take on the Arthurian legend is now set for release July, and a new trailer will be online at some point tomorrow.

In anticipation, we have a new character poster featuring Dev Patel as one of King Arthur's most trusted allies, Gawain, who will have to face his destiny when the mysterious knight of the title tracks him down.

Directed by David Lowery (Pete's Dragon, Ain't Then Bodies Saints), the film is based on the tale of Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, and stars Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, Lion) as the gallant Gawain as he embarks on a perilous quest to face the invincible knight (Ralph Ineson) of the title in order to prove himself worthy of a seat at Arthur's (Sean Harris) Round Table.

If you're wondering what the "one year hence" tagline is all about, that's the amount of time Gawain has before the Green Knight comes looking to take his turn with an axe (Google the legend if you want a more detailed explanation, but you might end up spoiling the plot!)

Check out the new poster below along with the previously released banners.

"An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.”

I'm just happy to see someone of Middle-Eastern descent on the home page. I love the MCU, but my Jordanian roots still have me wishing for a proper brown protagonist from my old stomping grounds.

I didn't know Joel Edgerton is in this. Interesting thing is that he played Gawain in 2014's King Arthur.

You know, for a movie featuring a fox and a tree monster as characters, that girls hair still stand out to me.

Love Patel and would really like to see Arthurian legend get a Hollywood revival... I'm hoping this causes a stir.
