Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2!

The Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass star gives an update on the upcoming sequel and shares his thoughts about the rumoured directors...

"I'm very excited about those two," Cage told MTV News when asked about how he feels about Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor helming the sequel. "They're originals, and they know how to make a movie look great, and they know how to use the camera. And I think they'll have a fresh, a very fresh take on the character."

However, it seems like the sequel may be a reboot of sorts although Cage didnt exactly reveal too much about the direction the film might take, "It's a different trajectory, but it's still the same guy. That's all I can talk about!"

"I'm not knocking the first one, whatever people think," he went on to explain. "I stand by that movie as well. I thought it was like a Faustian fairytale, like, if Disney were to make a movie about Faust, it would be in that vein, like a Western and a little lighter."

Keep Nic Cage away from this movie. Please.

I think Cage should have one more chance with this project - might as well, he can't do anymore damage. Ghostrider can't sink any lower.

"if Disney were to make a movie about Faust, it would be in that vein, like a Western and a little lighter."

This is a good thing? *sigh*. I'm not against the Crank guys, but Cage, and all other connections to that first movie, must go. Okay... I guess Peter Fonda and Sam Elliot can stay, but the rest of you...

I'm not a huge fan of the first movie, but it was 100x better than the likes of Fantastic Four, Elektra and Blade: Trinity! I've never really been all that interested in the character so a sequel isnt something I'm dying to see! If they do it right, then great. If not...well, I'm sure I'll be there on opening day one way or the other! :P

As if the Crank directors weren't bad enough.

Clive Owen. Nuff Said.

Mass- Even fonda sucked in the first one. Replace him with Rutger Hauer and you got yourself a way better Mephisto ;)

eh. I'll watch it. I'll take that over the Spider-Man reboot.

They gotta give it that "Devil's Rejects/Sons of Anarchy Gritty/Road Film" feel this time around.

Ackles for John Blaze! :)

The guy who did the first punisher might do well with this character too.

Thomas jane.

And YES...Rutger Hauer as Mephisto!!

Maybe even Christopher Lambert from the Highlander movies.

I would rather see this than Kick-Ass 2! I am so regreting spending money on the first Kick-Ass movie.

SpiderBat209- You know i wouldn't say no to Ackles but i dunno. I think Ghostrider needs a bigger name to attract the masses. Especially if the next one will be rated R.

RaythBane- LOL You know what's funny? I actually wrote Tom Jane & Clive Owen but erased Tom before posting cause i didn't know if people would like him as Blaze. I think he'd be awesome!!! And Lambert could definitely pull off a great Mephisto, but Hauer has the better voice ;)

a cage-less ghost rider would be best!!!
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 7/7/2010, 1:45 PM
@Shaman - Ohhh... Rutger Hauer IS awesome. Blind Fury anyone? I just think it was mostly a script problem with Fonda. Not really his fault.

Oh, and Ghost Rider needs to be directed by Del Toro and rated R to really attract the masses! Or this Mass, anyway.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/7/2010, 1:49 PM
Mass- I wouldn't say the script was the problem per say. But more along the lines of the director not pushing for great performances out of his actors. Rutger however doesn't need nobody coaching him. Look at his role in Sin City and tell me he didn't have Mephisto in his veins. That was Rutger "au naturel", baby ;)

OH, Lance Henricksen could also pull off an AWESOME natural Mephisto!!! :))

Tom Jane versus Lance Henricksen... goddamn i'd pay anything to see that in any film!!! Just imagine how EPIC it would have been to have Tom Jane instead of Van Damme against Lance in Hard Target!!! Uh... I just jizzed talking about men... is that gay?

And Del Toro SHOULD have directed the first one and any other sequel!!! DAMN RIGHT!!! :))

I point to Daredevil and Ghost Rider as prime examples of why Mark Steven Johnson should never be given another CBM in the same vein Tim Story of FF 1&2 and Lexi Alexander and Jonathan Hensleigh of the Punisher films and of course Joel Shumaucher, the granddaddy of bad CBM film makers, need to be blacklisted from them. They made flicks that just didn't do the characters justice, on top of making fairly bad to absolutely wretched films.

@Shaman - Ah, you topped yourself! (No, that's not some new slang term.) Lance Henrickson wins because he would look awesome in demon Mephisto makeup/CGI.

He has the perfect face for Mephisto, like when he's turning into Pumpkinhead, or Pumpkinhead is turning into him, or whatever is happening at the end of that first movie.

@Mass: I love you, man. If for nothing else you know "Blind Fury." Rutger Hauer is indeed the shit.

Gotta love the cheese of this one

NERO- I second that! AMEN!!! I enjoyed Daredevil very much but i highly agree that we could have gotten ALOT better. Daredevil is part of my "i don't get why i like it so much since i know it's a really bad film" pile, along side The Shadow and Judge Dredd ;)

Juggs- GRAVY!!! :)

@secretasianboy - Cage wasn't as terrible as it could have been, but

1) he is not dark/gritty enough (as cliche as that is)
2) as a name actor he needs too much face time
3) he is getting too old
4) HE DEFENDS THE FIRST ONE!

@McLovin - I love you man, but don't you just "meh"! I mean the news is just meh, but read the posts! We've been talking about Rutger Hauer and Lance Henrickson here! Blind Fury and Zatoichi! Quality stuff!

I'm sorry, but this GHOST RIDER II is still gonna be better that the SPIDER-MAN REBOOT!

I don't mind CAGE, even tho he was a bit over the top, I'd prefer another cast, but who cares, we're getting GHOST RIDER II!!!!!!!!!

I personally thought GHOST RIDER was okay, not great but loved the effects!

I can name 3 worst MARVEL movies that came after GR I lol!

P.S. VENGEANCE A MUST!!!

Rutger Hauer f*cking rules. He would have OWNED as Magneto when he was younger.

I say give Cage another chance. I think it was the writing on the first one that messed it up. I mean come on. Ghost Rider saying yee haw and adding comedy to it really isn't the style. Cage has decent movies and he was pretty bad ass as Big Daddy.

i didn't have a problem with it. i thought it was a good movie and i say hell yes to keeping cage. i want more actors that are passionate about the role. like i've said before, it's just popular to hate on GR.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 7/7/2010, 3:05 PM
Oh, my hate is sincere. The first half is acceptable, but after that its all downhill. Only one CBM has disappointed me more on my first viewing. X3 was less disappointing.
odie00
odie00 - 7/7/2010, 3:05 PM
@greenlanternsector- yeah he was pretty tight as big daddy. too bad that bid daddy looked a lot like batman haha but it was still badass. and yes he does have decent movies.

as far as ghost rider goes when i first watched it i was like ok this alright but then i watched it a couple more times and was done with it. of course there were always thing that pissed me off about it from the first time watching it but anyways. so whats he talking about the next one being a reboot? wouldnt they get completely different actors if they were. they should have gotten someone younger to play johnny blaze to tell you the truth
DDD
DDD - 7/7/2010, 3:06 PM
GR needs to be deadly serious not campy!

It needs to be dark and ultra-violent.
They took the first one too light!

Cage would almost be good if they kept
out the camp and made it SERIOUS AS HELL!
(pun intended)
