Another G.I. JOE Spinoff Is Reportedly In The Works In Addition To SNAKE EYES

Paramount and Hasbro are reportedly working on a new ensemble G.I. Joe movie (in addition to the Snake Eyes movie) with one of the characters featured rumored to be the undercover specialist, Chuckles.

Earlier this summer, it was announced that a new G.I. Joe film was in development, with the focus on the fan favorite Snake Eyes. While that movie is slated to release in October 2020, it now appears that Paramount and Hasbro are working on a second spinoff movie based on the popular toy line.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script for the new G.I. Joe movie is an "ensemble piece," with one of the characters rumored to be Chuckles, an undercover specialist who excels in criminal investigations and intelligence. Chuckles first appeared as a G.I. Joe action figure in 1987 and in the Marvel Comics series the same year in issue #60. He did not appear in the previous two G.I. Joe movies.

To date, there have been two G.I. Joe movies released: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and Retaliation (2013). Neither impressed critics or fans, but they have been financially successful for the studio with a combined haul of $675 million worldwide.

Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec — who wrote the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Trutles movies as well as Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol — are reportedly penning the script for the new movie. The duo are also working on a Rainbow Six movie based on the popular Tom Clancy anti-terrorism thriller books.

Ok, but can we do it right this time? Some Larry Hama influence from the comics. More old school Marvel comics, and less of the old cartoon. And definitely not whatever the [frick] Rise of Cobra was. Keep the Cobra Commander design but do the blue

@SmokingMan - 100%! Its so simple. Adapt stuff like the issue 12ish story, or 75 I think it was where Scarlett gets shot in the head by the Baroness. All the class Marvel stuff by Larry is good.

@gymbeau2000 - Right? I grew up on the 80s GI Joe and Transformers comics. I prefer them to the G1 shows. They're very well done.

@SmokingMan - you do realize costumes from comics and cartoons don’t always work out in movies when you first saw Keaton as Batman did you say Batman should have haha I’m trying not laugh blue underwear over his grey tights haha that be goofy and laughable instead of villains running away from Batman in fear they laugh them self to death grey spandex with blue underwear over his costume.,

And cobra commander does not have to blue he look great and menacing in black yeah prime look good in bot mode all red and blue in bumblebee movie but in his earth truck mode he look very unrealistic and CARTOONY looking.

If your going to go with comic accurate stuff where was you comment on black widow turn her hair from red to blonde in infinty war original black widow always have red hair not in movies, and manderian in conics always was Asian but when they got American actor to play imposter manderian no complaint there

@SmokingMan - hahaha g1 very well done you prefer movies be unrealistic in cartoons humans on cybertron don’t float away don’t use space suits never ever had contact with humans until there on earth, hound alien robot breath in space jump in water save drowning spike using water mask to underwater to save drowning spike alien robot breath in space need air mask go under water, let’s not forget power glide riding on wooden horse on carasel ride 5 ton robot riding on wooden horse which it does not break under his weight, and annoying Daniel goes out on mission with wheelie look for ultra magnus father for ultra magnus birthday , and grimlock in Dino mode on cybertron wearing mustache, hat, and waiter apron serving food to humans is that stuff you want see in movies other people who adults who do not read comics and watch cartoons will laugh at those movie scenes in movies and walk out

@SmokingMan - actually it does. When marvel was tasked with making a comic out of the original g.i. joes toyline, they used a shield story and just substituted the gi joes characters. In fact, originally the toys didnt have a villain organization, so in order to have a substitute for hydra in the story marvel made cobra.

@Origame - Well the concept of the revamp GI Joe's in the 80s came from Larry Hama wanting to do a SHIELD run. Marvel said no so he wrote it into GI Joe, and Cobra was like their SPECTRE, HYDRA, AIM, etc. That's how I remember it happening. I don't think there's a major direct link to SHIELD aside from that.
Origame
Origame - 8/10/2019, 5:37 PM
@SmokingMan - i mean, they aren't linked by way of them ever directly crossing over, but even you admit the storyline for gi joes is basically a shield run under another name. Thats a huge link.

@Origame - Ok so in the beginning, maybe. But they are very different from SHIELD now

@SmokingMan - they're both military organizations with futuristic technology that employs people of various specialty abilities to take on an evil terrorist organization thats named after a serpent. They're plenty similar.

@SmokingMan - I don't see whats so hard about making it a period flick. They keep trying to make it sci-fi or just modern with sci-fi.
Start the movie with Joe issue #12 with that car chase and move forward from that point. Origins of the tema in flash backs. OR you start the movie with Stalker and Flagg going to the mountains to ask Snake-Eyes to join the team.

Seriously? I mean, both of these have been rumored since before the last one came out, absent the rumor about Chuckles. I just figured they were in the unofficially cancelled or development hell category. It shouldn't be that hard to do a decent GI JOE movie, but they seem intent on alienating fans and reinventing the wheel instead of using nostalgia as tool.

I already have serious doubts about there being a GOOD movie about arguably G.I. Joe's most well-known character. I don't see how they get it right with one of their most obscure ones (I know who Chuckles is).

I’m totally down for the Hasbro Cinematic Universe. If Fast and Furious can create this huge global franchise with lots of characters and lots of cool vehicles then G.I.Joe certainly can. That’s their whole thing.
