During the summer, news broke that Paramount Pictures and AllSpartk were planning to develop a G.I. Joe spin-off for Snake Eyes, who is widely considered to be the most popular character on the Joe roster. Now, THR reports that a director has been hired.

Robert Schwentke, who directed two installments of the Divergent film series as well as RED and R.I.P.D, will helm the movie, which currently has a release date of March 27, 2020.

The script from Beauty and The Beast screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos is said to focus on the early days of the silent, masked warrior, as he attempts to join the ranks of the Ninja Clan known as Arashikage.

The Snake Eyes movie will be a part of a new shared universe, which will also incorporate other Hasbro proprieties such as Visionaries, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM. Paramount has already set release dates for Micronauts (Oct. 16, 2020), Dungeons and Dragons (July 23, 2021), and an "untitled Hasbro event film" which will arrive on Oct. 1, 2021.

I actually really liked RED, but holy hell RIPD was a big wet turd. Haven’t seen any of the Divergent movies. We’ll see…

As long as he’s not played by Dwayne Johnson

Besides Red, which I thought was cool, nothing in this list of previous films gets me interested at the moment. Plus Ray Park is clearly bisy with that Solo sequel bwahahaha

Good luck with the whole vow of silence thing.

But if they pulled off Dredd never taking his helmet off, I have hope for that detail.

@Pedrito - Gosling barely talked in Drive, and it worked. Same goes for Only God Forgives, I believe. Or basically any Winding Refn protagonist in any of his films.

Although, since the guy who's making this isn't Winding Refn, but rather the guy who made R.I.P.D. and the two Divergent sequels that were so bad they never even got to the final film, I'd be worried.

Please, no spin-off. Just start over. Those two GI Joe movies were beyond horrendous.

@Philvis - why not both?

@Philip - I think they need to start over...from scratch. If they are combing ROM and M.A.S.K. into that world of Joe, just have Snake Eyes be a fresh start. Let's forget those others were made.

@Philvis - The RZA as the grandmaster that trained Snake Eyes and Stormshadow was embarrassing.

@Philvis - and i normally like the RZA. I enjoyed Man With The Iron Fist alot. That said not cause his actong but yhe movie itself was fun.

@Philvis - I’m saying they could keep the same Snake Eyes and fix the rest. A soft reboot.

The way they put Snake front and center of the second movie (even with The Rock there) just showed how desperate they were for a purely [Snake] solo. It was cringy.
