One of the highlights of the critically panned G.I. Joe films was always Snake Eyes. The undisputed MVP of the franchise was always given the best setpieces and action sequences, which is a likely reason why the character has garnered his own spinoff.

According to The Wrap, the recently mysterious 2020 G.I. Joe film, has now been confirmed to be the spinoff, which will be changing from its March 27, 2020 release to an October 16 one.

The film, which will be directed by RED and R.I.P.D.'s Robert Schwentke, has a screenplay from Beauty and The Beast's Evan Spiliotopolous. It is unclear whether Retaliation's Ray Park will return for the titular role. The spinoff is expected to be a prequel.

Did they already start filming this if they were initially releasing this March of next year?

@MrCamw1 - It got delayed because production wasn't moving fast enough to make that date is my guess. There's no actors cast yet.

@tmp3 - huh. Guess I assumed they got Ray Park again.

Though, silent dude who does martial arts sounds like the role Scott Adkins was born to play. Falls perfectly in his acting range!

@tmp3 - need someone who can pull off a role with no dialogue, its not like Snake Eyes wears his mask the whole time right? If he takes off the mask they need someone who can get things across with his expressions

@dracula - there are no expressions. Snake Eyes wears a mask to hide his burnt off face.

@gymbeau2000 - Did not know that, thought he just wore a mask. so does he not talk because of some vow of silence or did what happen to his voice [frick] up his vocal cords as well

@dracula - Both. He has the Vow and when he's burnt, the chords go.
The way it goes in the very superior Marvel vintage comics is Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow and Stalker are all in a recon unit in Vietnam. Snake is shot up and Shadow saves him. They all get out of Nam and Snake Eyes gets home and his family isnt there to get him at the airport. His mom, dad and twin sister are killed in a car accident. Snake goes and lives with Shadow and becomes a ninja and takes the Vow. The ninja master is assassinated and everything goes to shit cause they think Shadow killed him. So Snake goes and lives in a cabin in the rocky mountains. Stalker is tasked by General Flagg to make the JOE team and recruits Snake. On the original team is Scarlett. Snake saves her as thier chopper is shot down and takes a heated gas explosion to the face.
So there is the Scarlett/Snake love story. Zartan was in disguise and killed the ninja master and framed Shadow, which is why later Shadow helps the joes. The guy who hit and killed Snake's family was Cobra Commanders brother, who is killed and starts CC on his warpath.

See, just tell that story and you are all good. I dunno why they cant figure out a JOE movie. Make it a damn 1980 period piece.

As usual, I can't +1 this article. People always respond it takes time. but I just went to an article already on the front page banner and the +1 took about three seconds and worked fine. Tried this one twenty different ways.

What's that about?

Easy to see that coming when they hadn’t started filming yet. Hopefully it’s great. I look forward to it.

They should definitely bring back Ray Park, because I don't think he'll be reprising Darth Maul in live-action anytime soon.

@L0RDbuckethead - He isn't really needed, but yeah if they bring him back, it wouldn't ruin anything. Although would be better to bring in an actual actor, at least when he isnt wearing the costume

@dracula - Maybe they should make the "Solo sequel" just like a Maul solo film somehow? Either take place before, during and after Solo, or something like that.

Could be interesting.

Hell, let Sam Witwer do it, he's a pretty good actor. And just have Park for the stunts, etc.

@L0RDbuckethead - That could work, although not sure what they could do with a Darth Maul film, between Clone Wars and Rebels, we pretty much have everything there is to know on Maul

Hopefully its as good as Bumblebee, seriously the GI Joe and Transformers films need better writers and directors

Storm Shadow will still be in a prequel, right? What about Scarlett??

They should take this chance to reboot the franchise & start with a Snake Eyes film. A nice black ops mission with a little bit of intrigue, lay off the humor & focus on his skills. By the end of the flick he foils the plot & gets the intel to his superiors about the new organization called Cobra. Don’t go over the top with it pull a a fast & the furious & start going over the top around the 4th or 5th movie.
