To prepare fans for the eagerly-awaited theatrical debut of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that both G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation will, for the first time ever, be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on July 20.

While neither film was much of a critical darling, they were still relatively modest box office successes, grossing over $678 million combined worldwide across two films. Snake Eyes will be the third entry in the series and a fourth film, titled G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant, is also rumored to be in some stage of development.

Both new combo packs will contain all of the bonus content from the previous Blu-ray releases, highlighted by exclusive audio commentary from directors Stephen Sommers and Jon M. Chu.

That first movie is [frick]ing bonkers. I hated it when it first came out, but I caught some of it on TV a couple years ago and...I dont know if I've ever seen a movie that over-the-top. I was kind of loving it. Pure insanity.

I love rise of cobra, hoping the 4k doesn’t get canceled again

I did not care that much about Rise of Cobra.
Retaliation is hoverer pretty good movie imo.

How does the Retaliation cover not have Cobra Commander’s absolutely incredible costume in it?! The only way to make it better is to make it blue.

Say what you will about Cobra’s world domination plan, but I absolutely adore how great the Monolithdropperinator is, it’s pure genius in it’s simplicity (dodgy physics aside).

@4thMaster - I think there is some logic to it, but above all is indeed a pure evil world dominator plan device.

I didn't care for him in Rise of Cobra, but Retaliation did make hame fun enough.

@bkmeijer - Dropping a heavy object from the stratosphere is sound logic, it’s the effects that are dodgy.
The did him dirty in ROC, but he’s pretty good in Retaliation.

@4thMaster - okay yeah, but the effects did look cool. Same as Cobra himself. He really was peak villain in the second one

@bkmeijer - Man, now I want to watch the movie again.

@4thMaster - and now you can in high quality (or just rewatch the best bits on youtube)

I have seen both of them maybe once (or even just snippits on tv), and I don't feel like revisiting honestly.

Snake Eyes had the best parts, so I'll give his movie a chance. Otherwise I'll just look up the best bits on youtube if I want to watch these two again.

Cobra Commander looks perfect in that last movie. Reboot it all but bring back the costume designer for that film.

I just found out that G.I Joe was a Marvel comic published for a while. D:
