With just over a month to go, Paramount has released the official theatrical trailer for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, which introduces the man behind the mask, played by Henry Golding (Last ChristmasThe Gentlemen), and previews what's to come as we see his early life on the streets, his recruitment by both G.I. Joe and Cobra, and a ton of awesome action sequences.

We also have a new behind-the-scenes featurette, offering up even more never-before-seen footage along with more details about the legendary friendship-turned-epic rivalry between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

While plot details have mostly been kept under wraps, the action-adventure will focus on the untold origin story of the most mysterious member of G.I. Joe and how he became the legendary hero fans know and love. A number of major details about his past will be revealed, none bigger than his real name.

In addition to Golding, the supporting cast features Andrew Koji (Fast & Furious 6Bullet Train) as Storm Shadow, Úrsula Corberó (Money HeistSnatch) as Baroness, Samara Weaving (The BabysitterReady or Not) as Scarlett, Haruka Abe (47 RoninCruella) as Akiko, Takehiro Hira (Lost Girls & Love HotelsGiri/Haji) as Kenta, Peter Mensah (The Incredible HulkAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Blind Master, and Iko Uwais (The Raid: RedemptionThe Raid 2) as Hard Master.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins opens in theaters on July 23, and is then expected to debut on Paramount+ after a 45-day exclusive theatrical window.

I guess it looks cool? It just seems like a super generic, been there done that action movie that is trying really hard to be average.

@santoanderson - yea there’s this underlying blandness to it. But within that, this desire to seem very cool but I’m actually, everything looks basic.

@santoanderson - Feels a step above the GI Joe movies, but still about on par with the newer Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. Looks cool enough, but super generic is pretty right on the nose.

There’s some nice shots in there but the story sounds stupid. Something about it is really generic overalL

I liked the trailer but really feel like this is the wrong character to do this with. Snake Eyes' mystique and silence was part of his badassery. To completely do away with that just feels wrong.

Not too familiar with the lore, but am I wrong in thinking that it looks to be taking a few liberties with the original material..

otherwise looks like one to stream for background noise.

As an 80's kid who was obsessed with G.I. Joe, I am...underwhelmed.

It looks... okay? Solid action at the very least, and Golding is very good. We'll see.

If you pretend that the singer of the trailer's music is actually saying "Generic as [frick]!", it fits a lot better.

Golding just doesn't feel right in the role. I don't know what it is exactly, but he just feels out of place in what this movie is.

@Kurne - A British model feels out of place fighting in an underground boxing tournament & working at a fish market? Madness, he looks right at home.

I feel like Koji should’ve been Snake Eyes instead of Storm Shadow.

@kirklazarus87 - I'm guessing a Cobra Commander cameo with Baroness at the end akin to Vader and Palpatine...

Or Baroness introduces Storm Shadow to CC.

Tried so hard to find something in here to like and no, I did not find it. Maybe Baroness? But the movie as a whole looks almost as bad as Mortal Kombat was.

@Kumkani - I feel like I have this movie already too. It was called Ninja Assassin. Adding in a few character names and it could have been a GI Joe Snake Eyes movie.
-Ninja Assassin is a 2009 neo-noir martial arts film directed by James McTeigue. The story was written by Matthew Sand, with a screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski. The film stars South Korean pop musician Rain as a disillusioned assassin looking for retribution against his former mentor, played by ninja film legend Sho Kosugi. Ninja Assassin explores political corruption, child endangerment and the impact of violence. The Wachowskis, Joel Silver, and Grant Hill produced the film for Legendary Pictures, Dark Castle Entertainment and Silver Pictures. It was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures-
