SNAKE EYES: G.I. JOE ORIGINS Figures Reveal Character Designs For Scarlett, Baroness, Storm Shadow, & More

Aside from that initial promo image of star Henry Golding from early last year, we haven't seen a whole lot from Paramount's upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, but thanks to a first look at Hasbro's range of tie-in action figures, we now have a pretty good idea how the main characters will look in the movie.

The first wave of figures features both masked and unmasked version of Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Scarlett, Baroness, and Akiko, who, as far as we know, is not an established G.I. Joe character.

As you can see from the promo images below (via ComicBook.com), they haven't taken too many liberties with the classic designs at all.

GIJ CS Snake Eyes 1

GIJ CS Snake Eyes 5

GIJ CS Snake Eyes Akiko 1

GIJ CS Snake Eyes Baroness 2

GIJ CS Snake Eyes Scarlett 1

GIJ CS Snake Eyes Storm Shadow 1

All of the figures are now available to pre-order over at Entertainment Earth.

Snake Eyes stars Henry Golding in the title role, and he'll be joined by Andrew Koji (Fast & Furious 6) as Storm Shadow, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett, Úrsula Corberó (The Secret Life of Pets) as Baroness, and Iko Uwais (The Raid) as Hard Master. The movie is directed by Robert Schwentke.

We recently found out that the G.I. Joe Origins movie has been pushed up from its original October release, and will now hit theaters on July 23.

I need to watch a Netflix Show of G.I. JOE produced by the Russo brothers. The guys behind "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" are perfect for this. Let no one doubt it

I actually love the old GI Joe show. I'm hoping that this movie captures the action and goofiness of the series better than the last series did. I love it when every Joe has their own gimmick, and I hope they fit in some sort of PSA

Well that looks pretty good. Gives me some hope that this may be at least entertaining. Just please don't force the character to talk if there's no good reaosn for it okay?

Wish they had a better director

I have a feeling this movie is going to rub me the wrong way at every turn. If they give SE a real name, origin and let him walk around without a mask on, I wouldn't even bother pirating this one.

@inkniron - In the comics he had a real origin though...only partially fleshed out but still.

Why wouldn't a movie be a good way to fill in (some of) the blanks?

@MyBeard - Everything about Snake Eyes is supposed to be classified, it's part of his mystique. The only things that are supposed to be known are:
1- He's horribly disfigured due to a battlefield experience (it varies in different iterations)
2- He was a member of the Arashakagi. When he joined also varies but usually is told through the vantagepoint of Storm Shadow.

That's pretty much it.

@inkniron - Do you consider the original comic canon?

Because there: Stalker retold the story of how he met Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow on Long Range Recon Patrol in Vietnam. That SE and SS were already buddies and that SS convinced SE to join his clan after the war. It's interesting to note that SE never says a word in Stalker's recollection, although we're not told if he can't, won't or just didn't in those memories. Only that he was always quiet.

We also learn from The Soft Master in a comic that is actually titled "The Secret Origin of Snake Eyes" that the rift between SE and SS arises out of SE's belief that SS's jealousy led him to mistakenly kill the Hard Master who was imitating SE's heart rhythm, because SS was seen running away from the scene.

We are also told by SS that Zartan was the real assassin and SS only joined COBRA to find out why and eliminate him.

Please forgive my recollection here if I've gotten something wrong (It's been almost 40 years since I read them, and I did stop reading at some point), but as someone whose favorite Joe was Snake Eyes and favorite COBRA was Storm Shadow, I lapped up every bit of available information about their stories from those comics.

My point here is that from the start Snake Eyes' origin was a mystery (it did say classified on the cut out card that came with the action figure), but one we were always getting bread crumbs about in the comics. A movie that would do the same thing, or even fill in more of the blanks, isn't terribly out of step with what the comics were doing.

From what I can tell, the designs look good. Other than that though, I don't know what to expect from this.

Between this, Mortal Kombat and Shang-Chi, this is probably the martial arts movie I might skip initially and give it a try sometime later.

Also, wouldn't be surprised if Akiko's role is gonna similar to Jinx' in Retaliation. Elodie Yung was one of the few good things in that movie.

I mean wasn't the whole point of Snake eyes that he was a blond haired blue eyed non Asian kid taken in and raised by the same clan as Storm Shadow?

First they change Snake-Eyes race and then they don’t even mess his face up?

@AnthonyVonGeek - maybe since it’s an origin that’s going to happen in the movie near the end
