FAN ART: Idris Elba As GREEN LANTERN; Actor "Likes The Idea"

Many fans would love to see Idris Elba (Thor: The Dark World) take up the mantle of Green Lantern should Warner Bros. ever decide to go the John Stewart route, and the man himself has endorsed the idea by Tweeting a pretty impressive fan manip.

Idris Elba is no stranger to comic book movies, but to date he has yet to venture over to the DC side. The actor is a firm fan favorite pick for quite a number of roles, but if we ever see another big-screen incarnation of Green Lantern I can think of nobody better to play John Stewart -- and it seems Elba is pretty fond of the idea himself.

I think they should just keep the first GL movie in continuity, have something tragic happen that causes Hal to lose his damn mind and become Equinox, and have him be the JL's villain for the first film

Stewart will never happen as Jordan is the primary focus in the comics again. Bad for the cash flow.

it make sense he should play Green Lantern in a Justice League movie.

Hal Jordan and Barry Allen for Green Lantern and The Flash. After JL3 if JL ever happens, then go into spinoffs with John Stewart and Wally West.

I agree that DC needs to distance themselves from Reynold's Green Lantern as much as possible. If WB can pull off World's Finest successfully, I'd like to see a Trinity film and then Justice League. Have Idris play John Stewart. If people respond to the character then by all means spin off another Green Lantern solo film.

As great as this would be I admit it'll be a shame it'll never happen. Reason being contractual restrictions, same reason there will never be Jaime as Wonder Woman.

@Jazzman - Public matters very little with regards to the deep pockets of a parent company. They can make the entire budget of the film back in cross-merch alone. Toys, comics, books, collectibles, clothing, key chains, these all amount to big bucks. Hype for any character spikes in lue of a film and with DC having just pulled off a monumental relaunch focusing on Jordan, I wouldn't pragmatically think of J. Stewart of film any time soon. At least, in anything outside of some animated capacity or cameo...though even that is a stretch.

This is where WB needs to put two and two together. If he is interested, then by all means PAY THE MAN! He is worth it!

As much as I hate the idea of two CBM studios sharing an actor, I have to Elba would be the perfect fit for what WB needs in its cinematic universe. A serious Jon Stewart type military man would make perfect sense for the franchise and move it away from the cartoonishness of the original's debacle.

@Frostyvoice: You have a point but you are missing the fact that people (as in the general public and movie studios) also maybe drawn to a marketable actor. Remember people was not to keen of Green Lantern the first go round so the studios might do something different to have a box office draw towards this character. Idris Alba would be cool.

Elba for Lex Luthor, just saying.

Not a fan of when they switch character's races, but Elba as Luthor would be awesome and you know it

what u mean public matters very little. the general public matters big time this is were they make money. comic book fanboys are a small percentage to the profit to WB/DC.

also john stewart has alot of fans look what happen when their was a story about DC was going to kill of the character. the backlash about the story from comic book fans was huge

so first ben affleck becomes batman, then jamie alexander becomes wonderwomen, then idris elba becomes green lantern. Can anyone come up with a DC movie that doesn't include formal marvel actors?
imaginejim
imaginejim - 11/21/2013, 2:15 PM
JoeMamma29: as a comic book fan who grew up with Marvel but loves any good film based on comics, I would not see why someone would get butt hurt or have a fit if two Thor actors (or any "Marvel" actors) played DC characters. Marvel has cast a lot of great actors and it would be great to be able to see them play other roles and since they can't double dip in the MCU, why not help make DC films even better? The more quality films we get around any comic character helps to ensure the longevity of films based on our favorite characters. It seems more like your comment was intended to start a flame war but I could be wrong.
