In a huge interview with Collider Geoff Johns talked in detail about some of the finer details and surprises we can expect to see in Green Lantern. For the full version (which also includes some fascinating insights from producer Donald De Line, production designer Grant Major and costume designer Ngila Dickson, click on the link below.

Has it been determined if the rings will speak in the film?

The rings will not speak.

How will members of the corps know when their personal battery is low? Will there be a way that the ring will communicate with them?

Yeah.

But not through speech? Will it be visualized?

Yeah.

We saw it blinking when it was time for the hologram.

Yeah.

Are you guys trying to set a base of look with the Green Lantern? Is there an idea or aesthetic that you want to set up for future DC films?

Martin Campbell is obviously doing his own thing here and building an entirely different world. It’s a different take on Green Lantern and whether or not that leads to more films being connected to it has to be determined.

You mentioned Christopher Nolan. If this Green Lantern film turns out to be the launching pad to a wider DC Universe on film...

I can’t risk talking about other DC feature films. I’ll get hung.

Will you get in trouble?

I’ll get in trouble right now.

Is there anything that is set up in this film that might lead to a bigger world?

I can’t…they will shoot me. The world of Green Lantern is so big. The different mythology of Green Lantern is so massive. All of the different characters like Guy Gardner, Jon Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and the different corps.

Will there be any hints of those characters?

Well, this is just the first film. So it will just be the start.

No talk about Earth 2 anywhere in a throwaway line, dialogue, or anything?

No.

Are the different colored energies going to be explained in the movie?

Tomar-Re talks about them.

So the Parallax doesn’t speak or does it?

Well, when it’s in a host it speaks.

Are you putting any hidden easter eggs for the fans?

There is Amanda Waller. I think there is a Central City billboard in there somewhere and a bunch of other stuff.

Will there be a construct of a green boxing glove?

Well, the first thing he makes is a fist. It had to be.

And here's what Donald De Line had to say when quizzed about the rumoured Superman easter egg we heard about a while ago.

Is there any possibility at any point of them walking by a Daily Planet newspaper just sitting around.

We had it in an earlier draft of the script. We had it that when the ring was choosing Hal it circled and went through as the Daily Planet hovered over.

So there is no chance of that still being in there?

At this point it’s not in there.

With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this year!

Why the hell did they take that Superman easter egg out??? Honestly, wtf is wrong with them??? That's sounds like a great scene, ugh what pussys...you need to start connecting the DC world...it's already late in the game, but GL would be a solid starting point to do that.
jazzman
jazzman - 5/17/2011, 12:28 PM
@113

DC should only focus on stand alone films with no connection to Superman and Batman.

@jazzman, why's that? I think the references would be cool, if well placed.

by simply having it fly around a daily planet sign would not be "connecting" the universes. they could have easily put that in thier and it wouldnt have affected the other movies in anyway. kind of like the throw away line in batman forever "the circus must be halfway to metropilis by now"....its gives a nod to the fans without affecting the other movies. the should have done it

IN Geoff Johns we Trust! I am not mad that he didn't go into alot of detail, he said that it would get him into trouble... Period. Its not like he could have told the guy something and no one would find out. It would end up everywhere.

Make mine DC!!!

Though they should have left the Superman Easter Egg in there.

Geoff Johns is a great writer! I hate that when anybody is widely popular people think they're not good, it's so lame.

@TheIntruder Well I'll be honest I wasnt sure if you were in fact saying that I am a sheep, and i'm glad that that one comment that i made on a comicbookmovie article was enough for you to determine my mental capacity. Oh and I'm telling on you. :D

@TheIntruder I don't think I have reported you once and I don't intend to. Also you really can't say I'm a follower when you don't know me at all. But anyway i'm done with this if you want the last word take it, then we can put this behind us.

the rings should talk,it would of been better.

geoff johns is a good writer, but personally i think he peaked at sinestro corp war.

@ theintruder

XD hahahaha be careful you'll get reported.

i wonder if you can have a long line of troll icons from left to right.
soberchimera
soberchimera - 5/17/2011, 2:07 PM
I think if the rings talked it would be too similar to Jarvis in Iron Man.

@TheIntruder The reason he isn't giving anything away is because that takes the fun out of seeing the movie. The interviewer obviously wants Johns to spoil everything and Geoff is holding his tongue so we can see for ourselves. I already knew about the Hawkeye cameo, the after-credits scene and all the Avengers nods BEFORE I even got to the midnight premiere of Thor. Sure it was a great movie, but the shock factor for all the scenes mentioned above was gone.

ps I think this whole reporting trolls schtick is stupid. People have been trash talking on message boards since their inception, GET THE [frick] OVER IT.
JosePetrelli12
JosePetrelli12 - 5/17/2011, 2:08 PM
@Marvel72 - Good question... The line of trolls would be nice. I wonder how many you have to get before Galactacus destroys you (Or your account)?

@ Intruder - If you are entitled to your opinion, why isn't he entitled to his? Johns is a great writer... and thats all that really matters. He was good long enough to become Popular - Thats not really a negative is it. Frank Miller is the man, nobody calls him overrated. Good writers should get their props! Blackest NIGHT?!?! C'Mon man!! (Nuff said, and he's done countless other projects that were great...)

Sheep or no sheep

It would be pointless to show the ring fly by the Planet and connect the movies, just to have the design team on the Man of Steel design their own Planet building that doesn't match up,thereby ruining the connection. Why restrict the team thats actually working on Superman to a GL design?
And I thought I read fairly recently that the ring did speak in the movie???

@TheIntruder I think there are plans for future DC films, but they depend on the success of this movie. He probably can't discuss them because none of them have been greenlit yet, no pun intended.

JULEZ13
JULEZ13 - 5/17/2011, 3:21 PM
Cool, I'm very excited to watch this movie.

With all the secrecy I think DC is really going to have a continuity with all the characters leading to JLA. They were probably waiting until Nolan was done with his story since he didn't want his version to be a part of it. -.-

Why all the secrecy then when it was stated already that they might make two completely different versions at the same time? I think Snyder just worded it that way and the execs at DCE ran with it to spur up the fans. I see right through you DC! XD

Man Johns is becoming pretty pro at not answering questions.

I like that Tomar Re explains the concept of the emotional spectrum. I can't freaking wait for this movie.

Cool interview, albeit not terribly revealing. The Central City bit was cool though.

And I could've swore that a previous article on this very site had said the rings would speak. Ah well, I wish they did but it won't kill the movie.

And to whoever said it would be too similar to Iron Man, had they talked in the movie, their rings probably wouldn't talk often enough to ever make that comparison.

@King, who are you and where did you come from? Your comments are annoying as hell. If you are Intruder, then that sucks, cause Intruder can be cool... once a year lol.

There were some good direct answers in here though.
