Is This Tyler Perry Alumni Lobbying For Role of John Stewart?

Tyrese Gibson might have to start watching his back because a new contender - one of the finalists for Luke Cage in Marvel's Netflix series - has decided to throw his hat into the ring for the role of Green Lantern Corps John Stewart.

For the longest time Tyrese Gibson has campaigned for the role of Green Lantern unapposed, but that might change today. Actor Lance Gross, best known for his role as Calvin Payne from House Payne, as well as several other Tyler Perry films now seems to be vying for John Stewart as well. Gross has taken to twitter today to post this message as well as some fan art of his own that you can check out below.

Is Lance Gross a good actor? Never seen any of the stuff that he's been in.

It's kind of sad to these all these black actors try to lobby for a role because the truth is, there aren't that many colored superheroes, so these actors have to lobby because they know they have limited opportunities.

Wasn't he one of the frontrunners for the Luke Cage role that went to Mike Colter?

Lance Gross would be a pretty good choice. An amazing choice compared to Tyrese. But I hope DC/WB goes with Nate Parker.

@DarkTower There is a major difference be Lance Gross and that dude you posted. One is famous and a good actor, the other isn't.

I see him more as Jefferson Pierce than John Stewart. But I'd take him as John over Tyrese.

Ehhhh, I dunno.

While I can say that he's not a "bad" actor how he comes off in some of his dramatic roles is a bit corny. lol I honestly think Tyrese would easily be a better choice if you wanted the more tough guy (not to be tested too far) type of persona I've seen the character have in a few adaptions. Under the right director I personally feel as if Tyrese could give a strong performance, he's done it before in the past Baby Boy (John Singleton) and Waste Deep, he's not a bad actor. If anything, I'm glad the guy wants the role.

Seems like most people here judge Tyrese based on his acting in Fast and Furious alone. You can't judge anyones acting by FF. Those films aren't about acting
Starfox
Starfox - 8/1/2015, 11:19 PM
I've seen him in a couple of movies, he's good. Now with that being said I can't see him as John Stewart.

Oyelowo or Gyasi please. . .

How about no John Stewart at all

@Darktower

Everybody wants to be in DCEU nowadays. No surprise.

Hey, did you read that Patty Jenkins is watching dailies of Suicide Squad filming?
DCEU is becoming artistic workshop, prepare for master race of cinematic universe.

YES! Way better than Tyrese.
kong
kong - 8/1/2015, 11:47 PM
But @Kr08 is right. Nate Parker if they aren't going for a John older than Hal. If so then Oyelowo or Elba is your choice.

And Lance Gross isn't only in Tyler Perry films. He waas pretty good on the short-lived Crisis.

My first choice is of course always going to be Idris though. . .

Whenever an actor puts himself out there publicly for a role, or is heavily fan cast like Nathan Fillion, it pretty much a guarantee it won't happen. I mean, Channing Tatum and Paul Giamatti are the exceptions, because of Tatum's box office record and Fox needing a new leading X-Man. Giamatti on the other hand is just a terrific actor, a nice guy, and ridiculously well connected. Honestly Green Lantern is such a huge risk, it wouldn't surprise me if they go with Tyrese because of all the sucessful movies he's linked to.

@AbhiShake

ya no surprise here,

I agree Dc is artistic, from grounded stories to the awesome themes of every character, loving the approch of DCEU,

wen u have a guy like Ben Affleck showing his total interest to Play batman n even direct one himself.. it shows a lot of potential in Dc.
I think thats what really gonna make It different or better than MCU.

Patty Jenkins is watching dailies of Suicide Squad filming?.. Nope havn't read it.

Comedian03@ It ain't just you.

AbhiShake@ I read that Debbie Snyder was watching Suicide Squad dailies, in Empire magazine. If Patty Jenkins is, too, then maybe the film might have a connection to Wonder Woman. Trevor, maybe? Could Eastwood be Trevor, after all?

Also, I think there might actually be something to this Lance-Gross-as-Green-Lantern thing. More to it than the whole Tyrese Gibson campaign. Lets see how this pans out, huh?

Oyelowo is above that part

He's good, but he's not great. Still a damn good improvement over Gibson.

If they're going with Stewart, bring in David Oyelowo or a young unknown who has the potential to do serious roles. Just don't bring in Gibson and let him try to do what he did in Transformers. Urgh.
SimplyAz
SimplyAz - 8/2/2015, 4:22 AM
Looks the part but have never seen him act.

Seems like a good choice
StrangerX
StrangerX - 8/2/2015, 4:28 AM
Both him and Tyrese are good choices. People forget Tyrese outside of Fast n Furious, but he can playdeep roles if needed. Im also hopingEastwood turns out to be Deathstroke.

But nobody wants to play Hal Jordan.

Elba's not going to play Stewart, if there was even one iota of a shot he was gonna do it we'd have heard about it by now. He's not gonna be in GL, give it a rest people.

Patty isn't watching dailies for SS, that's Deborah Snyder. Patty's in London right now doing pre-production work
