In the
Green Lantern comic books on which Warner's latest live-action superhero movie is based, Sinestro is one of the biggest, baddest villains in the DC Universe. A former Green Lantern himself, Sinestro will eventually harness the power of fear and become the founder of The Sinestro Corps.
Actor
Mark Strong, who portrays Sinestro in the movie, said that much of what is known of the character from the comics is translated on screen, as well.
"[Sinestro is] a military guy but [he] isn’t immediately bad. [He's] the kind of person [that] lends himself to becoming bad over the course of the comics being written, but initially he’s quite a heroic figure." Strong said that he will get to mix it up with title actor
Ryan Reynolds' character, Hal Jordan, but said that much of it will be CGI.
"...when we have a scrap together, Sinestro tests Hal initially. And a lot of that, because he's an accomplished Green Lantern, is done through the power of his thought. But there's some physical stuff, too." Strong also confirmed the recent news that a sequel to
Green Lantern might already be in the works, and that in it we might get to see Sinestro's fall from grace.
"I've read somewhere recently they've already started writing the second one. And I think it does deal with the fall of Sinestro."
